Advice and information provide by Jason was spot on, looking at a range of products carefully to tailor to my very specific needs and providing really clear summaries of the key points that I needed to understand - we had looked at regular mortgages and found that my age and circumstances meant I could not secure a regular mortgage at an affordable rate and for the amount I needed. The product Jason has found me is a fairly new product with Pure Retirement lifetime mortgages (aka a type of equity release) - it is not based on my salary or credit rating, nor my age (almost 60) but provides a lifetime mortgage which I am going to pay interest-only to maintain the level of borrowing, at a preferential rate, with up to 3 payments missed per year, and should I need to miss more than this , the rate simply defaults to 0.4% higher and switches to fully flexible repayments that can be between 0 and 10% of the original loan per annum. Unlike a regular mortgage this product gives me complete peace of mind. I will maintain the interest only payments if I can, but should circumstances change then the T&Cs permit total flexibility in what I need to pay going forward. Really pleased and relieved that I have been able to resolve what was a really tough situation with interest rate soaring
