"Left damaged and unfinished"
The initial request was for a straight forward roof clean but as our fascias are rotting they offered to replace these as well. So far so good.
We attempted to book the job in with Kelly who said that an e-mail would be sent with confirmation details and a link to pay a deposit. No confirmation and no deposit sent, even though we chased her for this.
The day before they were "due" to start Kelly finally calls back to confirm all is good but as we explained to Kelly the radio silence had given us the impression that nothing was happening. Cue an aggressive call from the sale team who were quickly put back in there place.
2 weeks later the work did start, but only the roof clean. The 2 man team were very good, professional and left the area very clean. In the process the damaged about 10 - 20 tiles but explained that when they came back to do the fascias they would fix this back up. They measured up the roof and went on there way.
Payment was request that day for the roof clean and chased several times (we paid 2 days later). It had an air of desperation to it which now makes sense.
Over the next 2 months we have tried to make contact with Smart Shield but to no avail and if appears that they have now gone out of business. This leaves us with a damaged roof and in the process of finding a new roofer.
Thankfully I've managed to get in touch with the sales guy who has provided me with details of the product manufacturer so at least I can get the warranty on the roofing products.

"14 cancellations over 9 months – 100% AVOID AT ALL COSTS!"
One of the most unreliable trades I have ever dealt with. In the end, I’ve been left with a partially painted multi-colour roof (images attached), with me finally giving up after 14 cancelled visits to complete the work over 9 months. After exercising so much patience, I am now cutting our losses, and initiating court proceedings to recover the costs for the initial wash (as I now need another wash) and for removal of the existing paint so I can start again.
The wash was done in Dec 2022, but then due to weather the coating had to wait until March. This was fine, of course, but once we got to March, that’s when the problems started. The cancellation reasons ranged from too hot, too cold, too wet, too windy, illness, equipment not working, personal issues, and just forgetting about the booking. Many times, we weren’t even told they weren’t coming, with us having to ask when it for to around 10am.
After each cancellation, we had to continually chase for another date, at times requiring daily chasers. This process itself was extremely stressful and painful, yet we continued to exercise patience.
Before booking the job, we had all the usual marketing, including ‘we’re real roofers’ etc, and Smart Shield seemed professional. It went downhill once the first wash payment was released (to the Director’s personal bank account and not the company account).
Now we are getting regular questions from guests, family, friends, passers-by, our Architects, and others on the condition of our roof and it has become embarrassing to answer the question.
I have found a very reliable contractor now ready to rescue this job and sort out his competitor’s mess.

"Smart shield???"
Smart shield???? Hysterical.. Never, ever in 48 years have i dealt with such an unprofessional/ unreliable person (i can't bring myself to use the word company). A proper 'Mickey Mouse' outfit filled with lies, awful workmanship and timewasting. My roof (having chased since June 2022) had to be resprayed (all paint flaked off) and i am still awaiting for Stuart to replace the numerous tiles they broke during the respray.. I have been told (honestly, no exaggeration) on 15+ occasions that Nick, or Michael, or Brandon or ... will be round tomorrow to resolve!!! Guess what- they never arrive.
Smart shield- what a 'contradiction in terms'- i have experienced nothing 'smart' when dealing with this outfit.. Please, save yourself inordinate stress and frustration... Do not use- worst experience (in dealing with a services outfit) of my life!!!

"Smartshield sprayed my roof last year"
Smartshield sprayed my roof last year. It has blistered and flaked off. On contacting Stuart in July 2023, he has continually lied about he will be in touch, promises he will call but doesn't. We paid alot of money to Smartsheild and now they don't want to know. Have tried ringing on all the numbers I have (Nov 23) and all phone lines are now not existing. Disgusting company!!! Please DO NOT USE THEM!!!!!!!!

"Roof cleaned..."
Roof cleaned...
However, didn't realise window is only rinsed so all left really dusty. Repairs of the lining of our roof has come off as well presumably due to the high pressure and thus lots of debris inside the loft. Basically, a lot of cleaning up and repair we had to do afterwards. Will think twice again before getting the roof cleaned.

"Do not use this company,please"
I used this company for painting outside wall using weather shield paint. They did half the job and disappeared. Inspire of repeated calls, no one turned up to get it completed, never recommend them

"Not a company that I would recommend."
We had our roof cleaned of moss, treated and sealed. They came in the depths of winter and tried to clear the frozen moss. The result was messy and icy! they returned and asked if they could connect to our hot water to see if that would help. We had to phone them repeatedly to get appointments to carry out the work. Supposedly the treatment and work is guaranteed. We have contacted them several times but have still not received any warranty documentation.

"Broken promises, denial and roof damage"
We've had another company repair our roof after the work Smartshield started for us last year. We've had to have a large section of our roof removed to replace felt where loose mortar and debris had been pushed through by their cleaning, where felt had torn under tiles and with the heavy rain in October/November 2022, had caused a leak in our ceiling.
The other roofing company quoted for repairing the damage and they couldn't believe the poor quality patch jobs they could see had been carried out by Smartshield; a far cry from the comprehensive sounding remedial work supposedly included in our quote from them. In common with some of the other <5 star reviews here, broken or cracked tiles were not all replaced; other previously cracked tiles have just been patched poorly.
After part of SS's work we had clear conditions for a period, but after heavy rain in October 22, we had a leak through our bedroom ceiling causing wall and plasterboard damage. After living in the house for 15 years with no signs of any leaks, it was too much of a coincidence not to be related.
It's important to say we'd planned to have the clean/coating done just prior to having solar panels fitted (which involves tucking cables under tiles into the loft space) but we had no leaks or dampness in the loft itself where these points are.
Day 1 of SS's work was to be 5 days before the solar panels went on. The guys arrived on time but had little familiarity with the job, the coating colour choice or our request to Stuart to look at fitting a ridge vent tile as well. I met them on their arrival, but then headed to work, with my wife at home whilst they got on. Payment as per the contract was due on completion of each day's work, but most companies allow at least a small and reasonable grace period allowing one to look at the results. On day 1 completion, in my wife's opinion the team were aggressive and rude telling her they were not supposed to leave site without payment. Not expecting my wife to climb up a ladder and check the quality of the work herself, I reluctantly paid the balance whilst at work, before I could check the roof myself when I got home.
They then cancelled day 2 due to sickness, leaving us with a roof looking vastly cleaner, but missing lots of mortar in the ridges and valleys. However Stuart assured us this wouldn't be an issue as the roof felt that sits under the tiles would carry any penetrating rain out to the exterior anyway. Our solar panel install took several weeks to complete before we could have SS back, but again, after informing him of the delays, Stuart suggested it would be best if we left it until the solar scaffolding was taken down out of their way, so their team could work freely from ladders as they normally do. Again, assuring us the roof would be fine, whilst missing all the ridge and valley mortar.
Lots of rain followed and our concerns about the roof were validated. We shouldn't have listened to Stuart. Whilst waiting for a break in the weather to have the day 2 coating applied, we then noticed the leak. A damp patch in our dormer ceiling with water dripping through. On reporting it to Stuart, he was immediately very defensive, saying they couldn't be liable for such an issue, couldn't be due to their work etc. He also claimed we'd mentioned we'd already said we'd had leaks in our roof. We didn't.
We asked for his team to come out and make good the roof. He made promises about calling us back with a date, broke these several times and was hard to get hold of when I tried to get a response from him.
Eventually the team came out and repaired the mortar, but poorly as I was subsequently able to see and had a second opinion on. The leak continued.
After Stuart looked at our water damage pictures and then the pictures his own team took of the roof just after their mortar repair, he then told me it looked like we didn't have "eaves carriers;" (plastic panels supporting felt at the roof edge under the tiles, which carry water out to the exterior). I'm no roof expert but if we don't and this is unusual, why did they go ahead with the work in the first place? Any reputable roofing company would do a survey of a roof's condition before starting work and advise accordingly. These guys didn't, which should've been another red flag for me. He's telling me this is an issue now, AFTER the damage.
Now I have to admit it's possible our felt was not perfect under the tiles, but the previously sound mortar (pre clean) had kept us leak free. My problem is that we were assured the long periods of missing mortar wouldn't be an issue, and suddenly when they were, it's not their fault despite Stuart's advice we'd be OK.
Needless to say we did not go ahead with the roof coating. The repairs were incomplete and poor and I would not recommend this company. I did not want them anywhere near our roof again.
