"Expected better. "

I am leaving some feedback regarding a shirt i purchased.

I am currently wearing this shirt for the second time, which has led to me writing this. The material feels cheap, and creases terribly even when worn.

I usually embroider my shirts from CT and was excited for this to be delivered as as the decorative embroidery on the cuff looked very nice. I do like the imagination to put the 110 on the cuff but this shirt overall is hugely disappointing, I would of expected better quality from a supermarket or Primark shirt.

Oh dear.

"55 Bishopsgate"

I was wanting to buy an item that was only available online. Bishopsgate store being my closest, I contacted them and arranged to go in to try on similar style trousers to verify the waist size that would fit. After ordering I went back to collect. They needed some alteration and shortening. Two days later I collected them and they are a perfect fit. Ayman was so helpful and professional it made the whole experience very smooth and enjoyable. The tailoring and quality of the Italian flax Linen is 100% and am sure will last many years. Process started on Monday completed Friday.

"Don't bother"

Don't bother. Suit didn't arrive and was delivered to somewhere else apparently. Refused to send another or refund. No help whatsoever in tracking down the original package. They said it was a 'civil matter'. First and last shopping experience with Hawes & Curtis and £300 out of pocket

EDIT: the response only proves my point. It was not delivered to my house. They don't care. Avoid this company

"Deliver faulty goods and expect you to pay to get them fixed by a tailor"

Update 20th October 2024: I got a full refund for my trousers and the jacket I could no longer use. It really shouldn't have been such a painful process and I won't be buying anything from them ever again.

Bought a £329 suit from Hawes and Curtis for a wedding. Suit jacket arrived creased, so I contacted customer services and they told me to take it to a dry cleaners to get it pressed at my expense. It wasn't creased from the shipping process. It was creased at the bottom front on both the left and right sides because it hasn't been pressed correctly before it was put in the box to be shipped. I asked for a replacement jacket as it looked faulty to me. and they had none of my size in stock, so I had it pressed.

On the day of the wedding when I first wore the suit I noticed that the stitching holding the zipper on the trousers in place was unraveling and was not there on about 2cms of the zipper, but I had no choice but to wear the suit as I was away at a hotel for the wedding with no other suit with me. I had to worry throughout the wedding in case the stitching came undone any further. I contacted customer service and they told me that as the issue hadn't been raised within 5 days of receiving the item they were not going to replace them or refund me and told me I should take them to a tailor to get them fixed. Awesome!

So if you want to spend £329 on a suit and get a load of hassle having to get the suit pressed and repaired then buy a suit from Hawes and Curtis. They offered me a 15% discount on another purchase.

Personally, I won't be buying anything from them again as their goods are low quality with stitching defects and aren't even correctly pressed before being shipped.

And when I was packing to leave my hotel after the wedding the zip broke on the Hawes and Curtis suit bag. On examination it broke because the bottom of the zip wasn't stitched to the bag, so the zip handle came off the zip completely and now the bag is unusable. I have never experienced such a zip failure in my life. It's beyond a joke. Cheaply made and awful customer service. Not what I was expecting at all.

UK consumer law offers protection for refunds for faulty goods beyond the 5 day window offered by Hawes and Curtis, so it appears that they are not complying with UK consumer laws. See GOV UK for accepting returns and giving refunds for more information on how companies are supposed to deal with faulty good and provide refunds or replacements.

NOT RECOMMENDED

Update: Hawes and Curtis arranged for my faulty trousers to be returned for them to investigate. They have now completed their investigation and apparently the trousers show signs of wear and won't be replacing them, so I now have a £200 Hawes and Curtis suit jacket with no matching trousers, the jacket is of no use to me. I won't be paying them for another pair of trousers in case they're defective too. As per the review above, I bought the suit for a wedding and only noticed the defect 5 minutes before putting the suit on on the day of the wedding. I didn't have another suit with me in the hotel I was staying in, so I had no choice but to wear it, otherwise I would have had to go to my niece's wedding in jeans because Hawes and Curtis delivered me faulty goods.

Hawes and Curtis customer service is appalling. They're supposed to be a premier brand, but in reality their products are cheaply made and they know it, hence their 5 day return window when the law says you are supposed to offer up to 6 months. UK law requires goods to be in a useful state and my trousers weren't really and I had to cover the front in all the wedding photos just in case the defect was visible.

How much would it actually cost Hawes and Curtis to replace the trousers? Not very much and it would look great to potential customers who are reading their reviews on here. It would also encourage new customers such as myself to buy more goods from them, but their approach is shortsighted and penny pinching. They won't get another penny out of me. I bought this important suit from them as they are supposed to be good. The reality is they are not. They deliver faulty goods and awful customer service. They don't live up to the high standards they talk about on their website or their brand. It's a shame. I shall now be taking them to court to recover the cost of the trousers and the jacket as the jacket is worthless without matching trousers. See you in court. I encourage everyone else who has left bad reviews due to faulty goods being delivered to also take them to court, so that they don't keep getting away with such bad practices.

I have tried asking them to the right thing, but they don't really know what that is.

"Take care when dealing online on line"

I ordered a suit on line stating my regular sizing. Jacket was far too long for which got a refund. The trousers had to be shortened to 31 inches (a standard sizing) because all their trousers are reduced from a 36 inch length! Their terms are that because altered no refund will be given on trousers The result was the trousers were far too wide; they were merely cropped from a 36 inch length and not tapered to a 31inch leg. They were nothing like the photo on website . Company are refusing to refund the price because altered. In other words if altered whatever you get, by way of fit, they will not refund. Why not sell trousers in standard lengths instead of carrying a stock where all trousers are a 36 inch length and need to be altered. Seems like a device to avoid a refund.

"Guest Wedding suit"

My partner went to the store to purchase a suit for a wedding oversea’s. Nitish, served him and offered a good selection of colours within the linen range. Extremely helpful, provided advice on colours that he would not have considered. He was not pushy, very professional and understood the event. They provided excellent in store alteration. In addition to a suit, purchased Chino’s and he will be back to update my wardrobe.

"Shocking suit quality and customer service…"

Suit purchased from purportedly premium retailer and worn lightly 4 times in office setting to find a series of loose threads developing in stitching and buttons falling off. Customer service/quality department disinterested and suggested this was normal ‘wear and tear’, despite giving them a couple of attempts to rectify. Totally shocking service and product. Avoid at all costs!

*** Edit - So essentially, I’ve now been called a liar following the response from Hawes & Curtis of 03/09/24. Clearly nothing more they are prepared to do. Buyer beware - if you are on the lookout for a premium suit that will literally fall apart after 4 light uses, look no further. ***
