"Beware of Hidden Prerequisites – My Experience with PeopleCert"

I recently took the ITIL 4 Leader: Digital & IT Strategy exam with PeopleCert and successfully passed. However, to my surprise, they refused to release my certification due to prerequisite requirements that were not clearly communicated before registration.

Key Issues I Faced:
1. Lack of Transparency – Nowhere on the registration page was it made clear that passing the ITIL 4 Foundation exam was mandatory before obtaining the ITIL 4 Leader certification. Had I known this upfront, I would have planned accordingly.
2. Withholding Certification – Despite passing the exam, my results are useless because PeopleCert will not issue my certificate until I complete another prerequisite.
3. No Refund Policy – When I requested a refund so I could take the certification elsewhere, I was met with bureaucratic delays and no clear resolution.

Final Thoughts:

I strongly advise anyone considering a certification with PeopleCert to triple-check all prerequisite requirements before registering. Their lack of upfront clarity can result in wasted time and money. If you are an experienced IT professional, beware that PeopleCert does not consider real-world experience as a valid substitute for prerequisites.

Would I recommend PeopleCert?
No. Their lack of transparency and rigid policies make them a high-risk option for certification seekers. I will be looking for alternative certification providers who are more upfront and fair with their candidates.

Obvious profiteering and regularly changing the goal posts. When I took the PRINCE2 foundation on 2017 I was awarded a certification with no expiry, within the past couple of years it has now been given an expiry and must be maintained with my practitioner certification through CPD. I now get a email today saying the monthly subscription is being removed and I must move to an annual subscription to be able to maintain my certifications through CPD. This paid for portal offers no unique or valuable content that can’t be found for free elsewhere.

The exam was easy to take, but I had anxiety during check in because the proctor had to check my room and to make sure that I didn’t have any study materials out or my phone. So that aspect made me nervous during the exam.

I had a pleasant experience with PeopleCert. I booked my exam and was able to choose from a variety of times and days to suit me (weekends available). My requested proctor language was English and Georgia, my proctor, was very helpful in ensuring my environment was suitable to proceed with the exam. You get an indication of your score immediately after and I only had to wait one working day to get my certificate online.
