"Don’t use this deposit scheme if you are a Landlord!"
I am a Landlord and have been with mydeposits for many years. I have never needed to use there arbitration service until recently that is. I have been blessed with lovely tenants until very recently unfortunately. They were the tenants every Landlord prays they never have - two extremely emotionally immature 30+-year-olds who didn’t care about anything or anyone but themselves. Horrible individuals! They totally destroyed my property - they did not clean, they destroyed my furniture, they painted my walls and sadly for the first time ever I agreed to have tenants with a cat and a dog, I had cat fur, dog hair and human hairs everywhere. They were difficult from the start which of course rang alarm bells. I did everything by the book, I had a check-in inventory along with photos of everything and again the same at the end of their tenancy. I did not return their deposit to them, it was for the first time ever that I had to do that. I sent them long list of all damages and costs which added up to nearly £1,000 more than their deposit covered. I did not bother trying to recover this additional cost as I knew I had no chance of ever getting it back from them. I was very pleased to see the back of them quite frankly, they were just awful people.
Then low and behold, a month later I get an email from mydeposits informing me that these tenants were making a claim against me. I laughed as I knew with all the evidence I had, mydeposits could not possibly find in favour of the tenants. Unfortunately it’s the tenants who got the last laugh! Unbelievably mydeposits split the deposit 40/60 in favour of the tenants.
Mydeposits is extremely bias towards the tenant. Their reason and argument for making their decision was completely unjust too. To find for the tenants on the damaged and broken furniture, which I provided dated photos of at the end of the tenancy along with the check-in inventory report and photos is just unbelievable! This deposit scheme is not fit for purpose, do not use them if you are a landlord you will be screwed over by them!

"Mydeposits have been zero help"
Mydeposits is a joke. Both myself and our landlord requested the return of our deposit as there’s no dispute on either side. We vacated 4 weeks ago but are still waiting for this to be refunded or any sort of resolution with Mydeposits.
Everyone we have spoken has been useless, we are just going round in circles. It’s beyond unacceptable when there are no issues from either parties that Mydeposits continue to hold onto our money.
