"A Disheartening Experience at iSmash"
A Disheartening Experience at iSmash
Today, what should have been a routine visit to iSmash in Churchill Square became a deeply unsettling encounter that left me questioning my place in this community.
Three months ago, I entrusted this shop with my phone, paying £200 for a screen replacement that came with a warranty. When the screen malfunctioned again, I returned, hopeful for a swift resolution. Instead, I was met with assumptions and dismissals that cut deeper than any cracked screen ever could.
The staff member barely glanced at my device before declaring it water-damaged, a conclusion seemingly based more on my appearance than any evidence. Without asking, he assumed I was a delivery driver - an assumption that felt rooted in harmful stereotypes about people who look like me.
As I tried to explain my situation, I was met with thinly veiled disdain. Comments about my choice of phone brand felt less like tech advice and more like judgment on my worth as a customer. The warranty I had relied on evaporated before my eyes, along with my trust in this establishment.
The inconsistencies were glaring. A 4-hour repair estimate morphed into days once I reluctantly agreed to pay. It felt less like a service delay and more like a desire to see me leave.
I left the store feeling small, my problem unsolved and my dignity bruised. This experience was more than poor customer service - it was a stark reminder of the subtle yet pervasive biases that can taint even the most mundane interactions.
To the management of iSmash: Your staff's actions today didn't just lose you a customer; they chipped away at the sense of belonging every person deserves in their community. I urge you to reflect on the impact your service can have and to strive for a standard that truly welcomes all.
To fellow consumers, especially those from minority backgrounds: Be aware, be prepared, and know that your experience matters. We deserve respect, regardless of our appearance or the devices we carry.
This ordeal has left me questioning: In a diverse city like Brighton, how many others have silently endured similar treatment? It's time for these hidden stories to come to light, and for businesses to recognize the profound impact of their actions on the people they serve.

"New iPhone battery "
Took my iPhone in for a new battery, booked a slot but arrived nearly two hours early. Repair took thirty minutes, got it back an hour and half before it was booked in! Brilliant! And I got a £10 off voucher to boot!
