"Cold Call from my CV online and then SECRETIVE"

Was minding my own business at my home office when I got an unsolicited call from Lucas who “found” my CV online. He introduced himself and his company very briefly and then mentioned that he had a finance role paying between £50k to £60k but did not have the full details yet (the bait). He then proceeded to ask me personal questions about my current job including pay rates etc and after about five minutes he declared me unfit for the role “he had in mind”.

I got a bit annoyed as he had not informed me what exactly the finance role was nor did he have a job description so how could he possibly judge I was unsuitable? When I insisted he tell me the job title at least, he rudely refused to let me know saying: “he would prefer to keep it SECRET!” At that point I reminded him that he was not playing fair and that it was just a finance job not a high-powered government role concerning the Mi6 or the CIA - he finally vaguely mentioned that the role was B2B (Business to Business) which is so evasive and means nothing.

He did apologise for wasting my time after I warned him NEVER to call me again.


This is a common trick used by recruiters who have NO JOB but find good CVs online and then pester their clients with cold calls to place the candidate and get their commission. Very underhanded and totally unfair method of handling a possible candidate, especially one who they vetted from the CV before phoning. I would suggest you stick to more reputable agencies and am baffled by the reviews below.

I have now written to the Department of Trade and Industry with a request that they pass legislation to stop this sort of trickery from employment agencies.
