Simon the engineer was professional, dedicated and very experienced. He worked tirelessly to find and fix the fault that would never have been found by myself. It’s expensive, but fair value for money considering the equipment, expertise and focus (there were no other jobs to rush off to, or no coming back the next day to finish things off) - it would have cost a lot more to start boring holes everywhere. The report afterwards is highly detailed. Would definitely recommend and I’m really pleased with the whole process.

We were losing almost all pressure in the heating system each day which pointed to a water leak. Nothing visible, no damp patches etc which meant a probable leak under the either wooden or tiled floor of our, new to us, house; not good. I started looking at leak detection companies, opinions seem pretty polarised but I'd had no luck with a generalist plumber and was worried about the cost and disruption of randomly digging up the ground floor. The reviews for the Leak Detection Company, including robust answers to poor reviews, and the fact that they were local and not a franchise, led me to calling them and booking a visit.
Anthony arrived on time, was charming and explained the process without over-promising. Previously a commercial plumber, he has now been with them 10 years and so has a great back catalogue of experience and knowledge.
He used thermal imaging to fathom out our unorthodox network of pipes and to see if there were any early signs of the leak, no joy. Then he drained the system and refilled with gas in order to try and trace the gas and therefore the leak, no joy. Finally he blended gas and water in the system and bingo! My understanding is that the leak only occurred when the pipes expanded with heat. The leak was below concrete so the thermal imaging didn't help. The system had to be cooled down for the gas so the pipes weren't expanded when we tried that. By heating the pipes as well as using gas, the problem was solved.
Anthony then set about digging out the concrete around the pipe, replaced the defective joints, tidied up and re-set the system before testing everything.
He was with us the whole day so we had extra hours on the bill beyond the initial 3 hours. This is all clearly explained in the communications. As an unexpected expense soon after a house move it wasn't ideal but compared to the cost and disruption of someone else digging up several speculative areas of the ground floor and having to deal with the remedial work it was by far and away the best outcome and in that sense very good value. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them

The lead engineer was efficient, effective and professional. He arrived on time, worked methodically, explained clearly and patiently what he was doing and was cheerful. He evidently enjoyed his work. We were relieved to discover the leak was in the hot water cylinder with no evidence of a leak in piping under the concrete floor. I would recommend the Leak Detection Company.
