"Couldn’t be happier"

Despite Red Sea issues delaying the delivery of my GinX bike it is here together with all the promised extras and I couldn’t be happier. 60 miles under my belt with no issues and an easy range over 50 miles using level 3/4 of assistance on a hilly route with no sweating! Have quite a few pessimistic friends looking green with envy, it’ll catch fire, for a £1k it’ll be useless, far from it. Highly recommend.

"Bike good- Accessories really bad"

Although I've had the bike for a while I haven't used it that much yet but so far, it feels solid and I'm happy with the motor's performance and battery life.

What I'm not happy with is the "free accessories" which are the cheapest kind of stuff.

The pannier bags have been unusable since I unwrapped them. The zips on them have never closed.

The multi-tool, while looking the part ( I was impressed at first sight), shouldn't have been manufactured as it will go straight to landfill.
Its spanner snapped the first time I tried to use it and the Allen keys round themselves up after 2 uses.

The gel seat came with a backlight. Fitting the light to the seat instantly breaks the locking plastic tab that's meant to keep it in place.

The bottle holder is impossible to tighten enough to fix it securely and is unusable if you put a full bottle on it.

The screws that attach the fenders to the bike are made of the same kind of metal as the multi-tool. The thread on them disappeared as soon as I tightened them.

While as I've said the actual bike so far feels good, I'm very disappointed with all this rubbish that came with it. I am very conscious of the environment which is why I bought an ebike in the first place. Having a bag of rubbish to go with it wasn't what I expected.

I understand that the "free accessories" are a marketing ploy that will help shift bikes but I would've rather not have them.

A good quality multi-tool would've been enough for me.

"SAFETY CONCERN RE. GIN EBIKES"

Whilst I don’t wish to diss a small UK-based startup, I feel obliged to pass on the following information which I just came across on the UK.gov website, as it raises serious issues re. a potential fire hazard with the Gin ebikes:
“Product Safety Report for Gin E-Bike presenting a high risk of fire.
Alert type: Product safety report
Risk level: High
Product category: Machinery
Measure type: Destruction of the product, Import rejected at border
Recall/alert date: 1 August 2024
… The product presents a high risk of fire and explosion as the transformer is of a poor build quality and does not meet the requirements for creepage and clearance. Additionally, the fuse in the plug does not contain a ballast and is considered counterfeit.
The product does not meet the requirements of the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 or the Plugs & Sockets (Safety) Regulations 1994 …”
You can read the report on the Govt website: just search for "product-safety-report-gin-e-bike-and-charger-2407-0160#additional-information"
I'm not an expert on such things by any means, but it looks like this relates to the charger and not the battery itself ... But it sounds as though this could have a knock-on effect on the battery ("risk of explosion" is cited)??... I imagine that this must have come as a shock to the company. But I do think this is something that it needs to address … I should add that it is not safe/advisable to use a charger which is not supplied by the manufacturer of an ebike ... If you have concerns about your existing charger, I suggest contacting Gin Ebikes ... Perhaps they might offer an opportunity for an upgrade ...
For those already having purchased a Gin ebike, I would suggest at least investing in a decent fireproof explosion-proof bag for charging the battery in; also, following the usual safety advice: only charge your battery during the day/when you are around/conscious. My cousin’s daughter, who is a firewoman, added the following instructions when I recently purchased an ebike from a long established well known brand/local shop: charge your ebike away from your ‘escape route’ out of the house … and make sure you have working smoke alarms.
She wrote: “We’ve had a lot of fires recently linked to ebikes and escooters, including some fatalities”. She works at a small local firestation in the North West of England.
I should add that I seriously considered buying a Gin Ebike ... and did a lot of research ...

"Great bike but patience needed with delivery timescales."

It's taken a long time to write this review, but then it has taken a long time for all to be settled. First things first, I am very pleased with the bike.
Back in early March, having a nice sunny day we decided to go for a cycle ride, me using my old bike and finding it fairly hard work I decided to do some research into a new E Bike. After watching some YouTube videos I came up with and was very interested in Gin E Bikes. I contacted Gin and they told me I could have a bike in 2 to 3 weeks after it had been made. I went on to order the 500w one and looked forward to receiving it along with all the accessories they promised with it. After a month or so and not receiving the bike I contacted Gin E support who were excellent and easy to reach but was told the bike was coming from China and would take another 2 to 3 weeks. I looked up to see how long a ship takes from China to the UK, it can be around 60 days, so I patiently waited a few more weeks and still nothing. I emailed them again and as always they contacted me back promptly, this time ringing me direct. They apologised for the delay and said I could have a 250w within a week or 2 and they would then refund me the difference. I gladly agreed to because by now, early June the weather was getting nicer and I wanted to go out on my bike. It did indeed arrive within a couple of weeks but without the accessories or the refund. Considering the accessories were needed to use the bike in a safe manner this was a little annoying. More contact and pushing and I eventually got the accessories about a month later, still longer and more pushing for the refund which eventually turned up 4 months from ordering the bike.

Down to the actual review of the bike, it is an excellent and I think well made bike and good value for the price. One minor annoyance is it comes with a built-in front light thats connected to the battery and you can work with the display but the rear light is just a stick on battery operated light. Crazy !!, The accessories i thought are quite reasonable, customer service is good always contactable but very very slow, so if you want a Gin E Bike yourself be prepared for a long wait. I hope they are still there in a couple of years because I will need to replace my battery and happy to go with them for spares. I would recommend the bike to anyone but order in January to receive in April.

"A great bike at a great price "

After a frustrating wait the bike was delivered in December and it was worth the wait. In the summer months I have been riding the bike every day over varying distances. Living in Devon cycling can be a quite hilly experience however the bike has made this quite easy especially for a 70 year old. Would have no hesitations recommending a Gin e-bike.

"Gin are failing to provide a refund"

Having waited for 4 months, I finally lost patience and asked for a refund. The request for a refund was made about 7 weeks ago and despite promises from Gin, I still have not been refunded.

"If your looking for value and a great e-bike..this is the one fur you.."

Having reviewed just about every e-bike on the market i finally settled on the Gin x. It proved to be the right choice as I’ve been seriously impressed by the performance and value for money from this bike. Took me less than an hour to put it together out the box and I was ready to go. Cycled from Glasgow to Portmahomack over four days and the bike handled like a dream. If your looking to get an e-bike I can’t recommend this Gin X e-bike highly enough..👍🏼

" Very long delivery and broken promises. "

I wish I was reviewing the bike at this time as it may well be a good bike. However, this review is concentrating on the company and infrastructure which is extremely poor to say the least. My bike was to be delivered in 3-4 weeks. I paid up front in good faith and I eventually got the bike after numerous chasing emails after 3 months, therefore I have missed most of the summer and I would never have ordered that bike if they had been open and honest with the delivery at the outset. So If you are happy to wait several months for a bike then go ahead and order and pay for the bike, but I would suggest you take any stated average delivery time they quote to
you with a Pinch of salt …. be warned. And now to compound it I have today been trying to get a simple answer to what the different program Modes are on the new sleek display and it seems to me that nobody knows! They have sent me a completely useless you tube link which explains absolutely nothing. They don’t have a manual for the bike with the new display… GIN, please explain why not? So in summary, the actual bike looks ok and as described, however, my experience of GIN as a company has been far from good and if I knew then what I know how I definately would not have ordered from GIN but I would have gone elsewhere and been able to enjoy the summer on my bike. You have been warned so please go into any transaction with them armed with this knowledge. In response to the GIN reply below, exactly my point, if you knew and know that there are delays due to the Red Sea then why do you still offer an average of 3 - 4 weeks when
You know it is not achievable! Also you say ‘slightly longer’ … there is a huge difference between 21.-28 days which is what I was told and the actual delivery of 79 days…. That is not ‘slightly longer’. Just be honest and tell your customers the truth that delivery will be 3 or 4 months!

"Tough test for the Gin X"

My Gin X 250W e-bike took 2 months to arrive with the accessories pack arriving a week later. Pretty easy to assemble with online instructions, taking about an hour. All accessories were fine with the exception of the drinks holder which was very difficult to attach, resulting in a broken plastic catch and abandonment. The padded seat is amazing and the panier bags are of good quality.
A week after the bike was assembled I took it on a 5 day, 200 mile trek from Ilfracombe to Plymouth and back. It was a really good test of the bike over some very steep Devon hills and difficult terrain (including some rocky paths and streams). The bike performed very well and always felt very stable. The front suspension worked very well too off road and was easy to lock out when back on the road. One day on the trip I rode 43 miles over hills to Plymouth and the battery still showed 79% capacity!
My wife is not a frequent cyclist but was impressed with its stability on the road and now wants a Gin X of her own!
My brother-in-law has been looking for e-bikes with a budget of between £2 - £3K but after a long test ride on my Gin X has decided to buy one.
