"Fantastic service from start to finish"

Fantastic service from start to finish! James took my call and was really helpful explaining the options . My call was taken seriously and an engineer contacted me the next day to arrange an appointment ! Fast ,efficient service . Reasonable price, oven not run of the mill brand but was running again in less than an hour . No addition cost . Highly recommend this company.

"Beware. Proceed with Extreme Caution."

I don't like giving bad reviews and only do so when I think others may benefit.

Over the last 10 years I've left 79 reviews on Trustpilot, of which over half (40) were 5 stars. Only 25 were 1 star, including this one.

In 2022 the Repair Network has had 31 reviews. The 21 who gave it 5 Stars left an average of 1.7 reviews. The 10 who gave it 1 Star left an average of 4.3 reviews. So which reviews can you "trust"?

The Repair Network may be genuine but its business practices are dubious. I would avoid using this service at all cost.

Let's start at the beginning.

I had a 7 year-old Neff dishwasher. It stopped emptying and after doing all the self-help checks I called Neff on 25th April 2022. The earliest engineer visit would be 25th May 2022, Neff suggested I try other repairers.

Google delivered a link to the Repair Network and I began to complete the online form to book a visit. But I had second thoughts and didn't proceed. But, to my surprise, I received an unsolicited phone call a few minutes later offering to book an engineer. Clearly the online form is capturing contact details even though the user hasn't submitted any data. Dubious Practice Number 1.

I'll admit to being "caught a bit off guard" by this call and was persuaded by the female caller to pay up-front for a "guaranteed engineer visit" within 72 hours. I ended up paying £200 for a call-out which included up to £300 of parts.

The card payment needed my OTP code and email address, as do many online purchases. But as soon as I provided these I became suspicious. This wasn't an online transaction but it was too late. And when I asked when the engineer would arrive, I was told I'd get a call to arrange this within the next 72 hours. Dubious Practice Number 2.

When the call ended I genuinely thought I'd been scammed. I'd given my card details over the phone, together with an OTP code and my email address. I'd just spent £200 and had nothing to show for it. No reference number, engineer date nor an email acknowledgement. So I called my card issuer who confirmed the payment had already gone through and recommended I cancel the card and get a new one, which I did.

Feeling a bit stupid, I asked a friend to visit the Repair Network website and start filling in the booking form, but not submit it. Sure enough, he too got an unsolicited call within a few minutes, offering to book an engineer. We recorded the phone call and the male caller repeated the "guaranteed engineer visit" within 72 hours. The call was on a Tuesday and my friend was assured an engineer would be with him by the following Friday "at the latest". The website makes no mention of this "guarantee" and when this was queried the caller offered to send an email explaining the payment options and the 24 to 72 hours guarantee. No such email arrived. Dubious Practice Number 3.

Needless to say, a week later, I'd heard nothing from Repair Network, other than an email from it's card processing company confirming payment. So I emailed Repair Network asking for a full refund. To my surprise I received a call within a couple of hours, agreeing to refund my credit card within 3 working days. When I asked for confirmation of the refund I was assured I'd get an email but didn't. Dubious Practice Number 4.

A week later, no sign of the refund so I emailed Repair Network again, asking when I could expect it to be credited to my account. No reply. Dubious Practice Number 5.

I was left with no option but to raise a Charge Back request with my card issuer, for failing to deliver the paid-for service. Yesterday the refund appeared on my credit card account.

The good news is I got my money back. But do others just give up?

At no time did either of the callers ask for address details. So how could they guarantee an engineer visit within 72 hours? I live in a rural area, some distance from the nearest town.

I suspect Repair Network doesn't employ its own engineers and subs out the work. And most appliance repair companies don't charge up-front. Which makes me think the business model is more hard sell payments than appliance repair. Dubious Practice Number 6.

I suspect my 7 year-old dishwasher was beyond economical repair, or would be declared as such. In which case the cost would be reduced to £105 for an unproductive call out. But how long would I have to wait for the refund?

The website is convincing but the non-existent links to Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, LinkedIn and Youtube should have raised a red flag!

Our dishwasher cost £350 new. Depreciation of £50 a year. Paying Repair Network £200 didn't make sense. So we bought a new one.

And the bottom line? I'd be interested to know how many Repair Network bookings result in a succesful repair?
