"Horrible technology for 2020"
Horrible technology for 2020. Horrible customer service. They provide poor service for what they are paid for. Doorbell camera hasn't worked in over a year. The garage camera won't pick up motion. My trail cam beside it picks up 20x what this camera picks up. Customer service gets you nowhere when you call. Stay the h*** away from Northstar Security.

"Terrible company"
Terrible company. I called 2 days late of the 60 day period in an attempt to cancel my contract with them. I was informed that I was automatically added to the 18 month extended contract. I am now about to start trying to find any instance of them breaking contract over the course of the last 5 years in an attempt to get out of it and save myself $1000 over the course of this next year and a half. This company couldn't give a care about customer service. They are going to hide behind a terrible contract and take your money. If you are considering them, just stop. If you insist on going with them, then be sure to read the entire contract very closely before signing anything.

"DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY"
If you are considering signing a contract with this company really think hard and twice about doing it. Once they get there teeth into you you have to contentiously jump through hoops to get out. They are very good at stating that they care about clients and customer service however they will not work with you at all. I missed my out window by one month and now they are telling me that I will automatically be renewed for another 18 months. When I sent an email I didn't hear anything from them for an entire month for them to only tell me that they will not cancel my contract. Basically they told me to just go F&*$ myself.
The main reason for cancelling is that the equipment was never installed properly. So I have a system that is constantly running on low battery that also will never connect with internet. I can't actually use the cameras and nothing as far as security is actually working as promised. On the nice note the company will come out and look at it at my expense. Just more proof that you need to look elsewhere for a security system.
Multiple problems with a company that just cares about itself.

"Don’t sign with them!!!"
Don’t sign with them!!!! We, too, were shocked to find out that we were tricked into actually being stuck with a 5 year chain around our necks. The system set off falsely, stopping us from using it due to the fines we would receive from the city. It started to malfunction, twice, but the repairman could never seem to be able to fix it leaving us with having to find a way to turn off the obnoxious beeping at all times at day and night.
We moved to another state, renting our house. They can’t use the system and we can’t install a system in a rental house here, our only two options for getting out of the burden of their overpriced contract, so we are counting down the days until our 5 year sentence is up. When is that? Don’t know yet as it is impossible to find on their website so I guess I’ll call, wait, call again, wait, write, wait, ....
I would never recommend this company to anyone!!!

"terrible company policies"
Equipment was fine and tech support is ok. The problem is the companies policies and account/costumer managers. They sign you up but in the fine print it'll say if you do not cancel in writing within 60 days you auto renewal for 18 more months. None of the cancel information is on the website and you have to call and speak to a account manager which can take days to get in touch with because they are "so busy". The AM did retract my 18 months but still made me do 60 days so I am stuck paying two more months at $50/month since that is a "company policy" Ring is $100/ year. Soon as my 60 days is up I am done and will not recommend NS alarm to anyone in the future.

"Would give a 1/2 star if possible"
If I could give a 1/2 star, I would. I had a horrible experience with North Star. When I called to cancel, I was told I was locked into another 18 months after already completing 5 years with such a heartless company. They give you a long contract then do not contact you when your contract is ending. The contract is automatically renewed from a contract signed FIVE years ago. The representative attempted to "drop my rate" yet increase my time. I am leaving this company at the first opportunity. They should lose any lawsuit against them. Extremely horrible customer service. Expensive service. Long contract terms. Worst company I've ever done business with. Stay FAR away!

NorthStar Alarm Services are heartless. After becoming jobless due to COVID-19, NorthStar Alarm Services will not void my contract/agreement. NorthStar Alarm Services is not an essential item.

"Terrifyingly poor experience."
Terrifyingly poor experience.
Dishonesty - We were initially told it was a one year contract. It turns out it was one year for the hardware, but 5 year service. Misleading phrasing to lure us in, but hey that’s just business right?
Inattentiveness - it took 5 days, 5 DAYS, for anyone to get in touch with us after the security panel had been tampered with and disconnected, and then when I did speak with someone they claimed they’d been trying to reach us at a number that wasn’t associated with anyone in our household. They also had an incorrect verbal passcode ‘pop up’ when I called in, but they were able to find and verify the right one. Sounds like either someone altered information in my account, or someone was looking in the wrong account and didn’t want to own up to their mistake. Either way, very very unsettling. And now they’re doing everything they can to keep me from being able to cancel and lock me in to an unreliable, inattentive, and misleading company service. I definitely will be getting the word out as many places as I can.

"Don’t sign you’ll be in high rate…"
Don’t sign you’ll be in high rate contract forever. They auto renew without even checking with you if you want to renew. Most expensive service, didn’t realize until after I signed up 5 years ago and now I’m stuck for another 18 months. That is is I remember to cancel in request in 16 months.
