"TRICKY COMPANY"

TRICKY COMPANY. CANNOT TRUST. MUST READ ENTIRE CONTRACT BEFORE AGREEING.
When I first acquired the Northstar system, I was approached by young men canvassing my neighborhood. At that time, I really was not interested in one because I knew that I would not be at that address for long. The salesmen assured me that it was for one year, and unfortunately I signed up to help the salesmen out. Of which, I now look back and see that these people were just pawns in Northstar’s scheme to rope customers in and thru trickery keep them in their system as paying customers.
I did have to move out of my address after one year as I suspected. Upon contacting Northstar to cancel my subscription, I was informed that it was for a three (3) year contract. I was surprised and quite disappointed to find that out. Anyway, I went ahead and honored the three year contract. Well, I knew my contract expired in 2021 so I contacted the company and had my end-of-contract date confirmed that it was indeed in May 2021. Keep in mind I was never informed that I had to cancel in writing 60 days before the end of contract to be released.
The beginning of April I started to contact Northstar to find out my cancellation date. I really didn’t want to cancel, per se, because I knew my circumstances were about to change and I wanted to weigh my options. My wish was to be granted a month to month contract until my living situation was solid and I would be able to determine my needs for the system. During the week of 4/12/2021, I started calling Northstar to obtain this information. Sometimes I would call two to three times a day and was told that the office that handles this was busy and would call me back. I never received a call back. On 4/15/2021, I called twice in the morning. When I did not receive a call back, I called again and asked to speak to a supervisor. Upon my request, I was immediately put in contact with an account representative named Caden. It was during this call that he said that I missed the 60 day cancellation policy and I was automatically put into another 18 month contract that could not be broken. I was exacerbated when I heard this information. Why wasn’t I informed of this when I had inquired earlier. Again, I was told “It’s in the contract.” Your 60-day request, in my opinion, is completely ridiculous. No reputable company would ask that. Caden emphatically stayed with this and would not budge. This is when I realized that this is your company’s policy which I think is nothing but a con.
Every contact that I had with your company left me feeling stupid for believing the original salespeople and not reading all of the fine print of the contract. But to be real, what layperson really reads entire contracts. I now realize that this is necessary for some businesses that are not scrupulous, and you find yourself jammed up with them and the company trying to keep customers against their will. This says to me that this type of company must not be a reputable one if it has to go to these measures to keep business. Northstar’s customer service is wicked and is in need of training in honesty and integrity to the public.

"BAD BUSINESS."

I agree with R. Leytham! In order to cancel, I have to pay out my contract even after we lost our house to hurricane Harvey. They have no consideration for ANY of their customers...probably because they have been sued by ADT & other security companies. They claimed they were affiliated with ADT. DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT WITH THESE VULTURES!! They don't even deserve 1 star!

"Horrible company"

Horrible company, they lie cheat and steal. Getting out of contract after paying for five years has been a nightmare. My equipment doesn't work! They are like trying to get rid of a bad std, they just won't go away! NEVER USE this company and by all means never sign into a contract with them they are as crooked as a three dollar bill!

"Awful Security Company!"

I will never refer someone to Northstar! This has been a terrible experience for me. They’re the worst of the worst of security companies. Someone broke into my car in my driveway, and the deficient cameras they provided me didn’t detect any movement. My equipment has not been working properly for the last 5 months and I can’t get a technician out to my house to fix the problem. I always get the run around when I call them about any problem beside billing. The only department that will take calls is the Billing Department! I HATE NORTHSTAR!!!

"Unlawful Business Practice"

Predatory and unlawful business practices! This company will take advantage of you. Actual "security" performance is bad as well. But my main complaint is the automatic 18 month extension of your contract after your original 60 month contract is up. No warning. Northstars defense is that it's written into the original contract. However, I called last year to inquire on the expiration date and was told I needed to wait another 5 months but was never told that, at the time of expiration, I would need to submit a letter saying I wanted to close my account. Again, they contend that they weren't required to disclose that info. Seriously! Then they recently sent me a package with what looks the be a motherboard to update the system ( I'm just guessing here) with no instruction on what to do with it. I have called Northstar to ask what it's for, whether it automatically commits me to an extra contract (as noted in other complaints) or if I have to pay for it. They couldn't tell me if there was a charge or an extension on my contract so I sent it back. What this company is doing is collecting as much revenue as they can before they either get hit with a class action lawsuit and/or go out of business, whichever happens first. Buyer beware!
*Update as of 3/25/21 - I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and they contacted the company. They have agreed to cancel my contract without penaltys or fees.

"Worst alarm company ever"

Worst alarm company ever. Equipment does not work as described, customer service is terrible. Only department that works well is the billing department!

"Horrible Security Company"

If you like paying for terrible customer service and a security system that doesn’t work you’re in the right place. We’ve been under contract with Northstar since July 2020. During this time our security system may have worked properly for a month or two. We’ve spent several hours on the phone with customer service trying to fix the issue. Our front and back door sensors show that the doors are open when they are closed. So I’m paying for a security system that doesn’t actually arm my house. After many hours on the phone, we finally got them to agree to send someone out to fix our system. Guess what? No one showed up. Crazy. We called to reschedule for the next day. Guess what happened? If you guessed they didn’t show, you’d be correct. So if you want a security company that actually does what they are supposed to I recommend saving yourself the trouble and going somewhere else.

"This company is nothing but a scam"

This company is nothing but a scam. They took over a company that I had for over 10 years. The





A TOTAL SCAM

The Sales person who contacted me said Northstar had taken over the company that I had for approx. 10 years. They used all of the equipment that had already been installed, with the control box and 2 keyfobs. This was on 6/7/2018. They never left me a copy of the contract, only that the Bill would be $49.99 a month. I put this on easy withdrawal from my Bank. On Dec. 17, 2020, I sold the house @ 11049 W. Florida Ave., Sun City, AZ 85351, and moved to an assisted living facility. I contacted Northstar and was told that I had entered into a 5Year contract and would have to pay the amount due if the current buyer would not take over the contract. I never received a copy of the contract until January 4, 2021, when they sent me a copy thru e-mail. The copy I received was not signed by me and the Initials were not mine. They continue to collect from my Bank ($49.99) It is nothing but a scam. I previously wrote to the BBB in Georgia with this info and the company in Georgia said they are not the same company and would "never have a customer sign a contract over the phone". They further said " they would always let a customer have a copy of a contract with their signature". I would too.

"terrible co and service"

Horrible experience. After 4 yrs equipment was out of date and non working. No help from co to repair or replace, was told there was no tech in my area. Went with a new co but was held to the 5 yr contract that I "agreed" to, yet they wouldn't furnish or repair the equipment they "agreed" to provide

"Horrible company...these are the words…"

Horrible company...these are the words I like to start off with ..I sold my house the previous buyer was supposed to call and setup but once they read the reviews they wanted nothing to do with NorthStar now I'm stuck on getting billed no longer have the equipment.all they want me to do is sign another 5 yr contract .no help at all.also through the 2yrs of having the service non stop problems with the equipment.avoid avoid this company
