Had a horrendous journey back from Prague to Brussels on 24/9. Power in sleeper car didn't work so about 9 pm we had to drag our suitcases thro 6 carriages of a fast moving train (not easy at our age) to a couchette. The curtains in the couchette did not close leaving a wide gap to the corridor - the window curtains were hanging off the track at each end. In the end we rigged up a curtain with a blanket to the corridor - nothing we could do about the window so very little sleep. Eurosleeper have offered 20% off one ticket (just one???) and 50 euros each for the downgrade to a couchette - repayment in 8 to 10 WEEKS! I have tried to query with them but they are just stonewalling me now.
Only reason I gave 2 stars not 1 is because it arrived on time

"Vreselijke ervaring"

Vreselijk ervaring. Ik kocht een ticket voor mij en mijn kind naar Praag. Een paar dagen voor vertrek veranderde het vertrekstation en moesten we naar Utrecht in plaats van Deventer. De vertrektijd was een uur vertraagd. In plaats van 22:15 werd aangekondigd dat de trein om 23:15 zou aankomen. Vijf minuten voor aankomst veranderde de vertrek spoor van 5 naar 14. Maar het meest interessante gebeurde daarna. De trein reed ons voorbij zonder te stoppen!!! Hoe absurdistisch kan het zijn! Honderden mensen gebleven letterlijk met open mond gestaan. Natuurlijk er waren geen enkele telefoons bereikbaar van de vervoerder. Ook er stond geen informatie op de schermen. Toen de volgende trein op hetzelfde spoor kwam, ging ik naar boven om toch enkele informatie te kunnen inwinnen, maar er was niemand bij de informatiebalie, behalve mensen die, net als ik, probeerde in deze absurde iets te begrijpen. Om de nacht niet in Utrecht door te brengen namen wij een van de laatste treinen naar huis. Toen ik mijn beklag deed bij de vervoerder, vertelden ze me dat de trein over een half uur terug was gekomen en dat het was aangekondigd (wat compleet onzin is) en dat het eigenlijk mijn probleem en ik krijg mijn geld niet terug!
Kortom, als je een hoop stress wilt, jouw geld wilt verliezen en ‘s nachts uitzwaaien op vreemde station naar jouw voorbijrijdende trein, die sta je te wachten, maar die stopt niet, dan zit je hier goed.

My journey to Antwerpen was very good. However I must write, that the lower couchette is more comfortable than the couchette in the middle. Bed linen was clean and the staff helpful.

I loved the old trains and the whole experience. I would have liked to have a reading light at my bed. Not to bother the other people.

Vriendelijk personeel, couchette was in orde. Ontbijt is minimaal. Mogelijkheid voor glutenvrije versie aanbieden.
Op de terugreis (12 september) waren er geen handdoeken. Zou een fout van de schoonmaakploeg zijn. Er is voor vertrek slecht gecontroleerd.

"Expensive but "cheap""

I was disappointed by "cheapness" of the whole experience. Compared to a recent night train trip to Switzerland of the same length with Czech railways, my trip from Prague to Netherlands and back was: much more expensive, more crowded, less secure (poorer locks), less privacy and darkness, less bedding, more noise (party in the next compartment that I had to eventually ask to be more quiet), one toiled not functional, air-conditioning not working. Compared to that the Czech trains to Switzerland have private sink in ever compartment, shower for a vagon, selection of 2 types of free breakfast and nice selection of other foods for reasonable prices, unimaginable for the very economical offer by European Sleeper.

What frustrates me the most is that I chose ES over flight although it was more expensive and longer travel so that I can support the environment... But as I heard others, with this kind of experience, not many will be willing to repeat it. Is it really such an unprofitable business that everything needs to be so cheep and degraded while cost of tickets is so high?

"Fine for what I paid"

Both booking and trip went smoothly. I had a comfort couchette (5 people) which was fully booked and it felt very full with the luggage of 5 people. I don’t want to imagine 6 people in the same space. The train felt very old but the compartment and provided sheets were clean and the personnel friendly and helpful. The rest rooms not so much. All in all I was happy with the experience for the price I paid, but it is no luxury trip 😉
