I recently attempted to lease a car from Direct Lease, and the experience left me extremely disappointed. As a Dutch family with overseas income and a strong financial situation, we thought leasing a car would be straightforward—especially since we have successfully leased vehicles with other Dutch companies without any issues.
Unfortunately, Direct Lease seems to operate on outdated and rigid policies that don't accommodate expats or anyone earning their income outside of the Netherlands. Despite providing more than the requested proof of income, including multiple documents, after a slow and frustrating week, we received a short, impersonal email stating that our paperwork would be destroyed because we didn’t meet their “guidelines.” The problem? We don't get paid directly into a Dutch bank account, as our income is from an international source.
What’s even more frustrating is that we were never offered any alternative solutions, such as paying the full lease amount upfront or exploring other options to meet their criteria. Instead, we were met with a lack of flexibility and understanding, culminating in yet another poor review. This whole experience felt like a bait and switch. When I first inquired, I was bombarded with phone calls and emails from their sales team, eager to make a deal. But as soon as they realized we didn't fit into their narrow criteria, they quickly shut us down without any meaningful communication or effort to address our situation.
To make matters worse, it was clear they didn’t even properly read the documents we provided. They asked us questions that were already clearly addressed in our paperwork.
What’s even more frustrating is that Direct Lease responds to every one-star review with the same tired excuse that they're just following their "single source of truth"—their exclusive, not expat-friendly credit check guidelines. HELLO, THIS IS 2024!!! It's clear that Direct Lease is not interested in adapting to modern business practices or serving the needs of expats.
If you work for an international company or get paid outside the Netherlands, don't waste your time with this company. There are plenty of other leasing companies in the Netherlands that are more flexible, modern, and welcoming to expats.

Regret taking a lease car from them. When you return, they rip you off with the tiniest of a mark in the car. Very unprofessional.
