"I like the Co-op in general"

I like the Co-op in general. They are definitely the most expensive supermarket I go to, but while they need to up their game re. better welfare meats - they do offer a good and interesting product range.

The main complaint I (and many others) have is that their online shopping platform is useless. We need the ability to filter products while shopping, and to amend orders once placed like other supermarkets. Also, we need better integration of the points system so points can be used on online shopping - not just in store....as many customers can't access stores.

"A Deep Disappointment for a Long-Time Co-op Member"

As a local Co-op member, I couldn't be more disappointed and appalled by the way the Co-op has been handling the welfare of chickens in its supply chain. I was part of the member's protest on Saturday, August 19th, where 32 of us came together to voice our concerns over this matter. I've also seen the shocking investigation footage, and it's an issue that I'd like to see covered by news outlets extensively.

Co-op sources over 51 million chickens every year, 98% of which are low-welfare 'Frankenchickens'. This is not only morally wrong but also utterly hypocritical considering Co-op's history. In the 1990s, they broke the law to be the first retailer to label the living conditions of egg-laying hens. By 2010, they switched to using only free-range eggs across all products. So why the apathy towards broiler chickens?

It's even more frustrating that a motion submitted to Co-op members in May, during the AGM, was virtually ignored by the leadership. A staggering 96% of us agreed that the Co-op should implement the Better Chicken Commitment (BCC), yet here we are, still waiting for action.

Over 350 companies across Europe have already committed to higher chicken welfare standards by signing up to the BCC, including retailers like Waitrose and Marks and Spencer. It's mind-boggling that Co-op, sharing the same supplier as Marks and Spencer, hasn’t joined this commitment when 20% of chickens from our shared supplier, 2 Sisters Food Group, are raised to a higher welfare standard.

I care about this matter deeply, not just as an individual but also as a part of the local Co-op community. Animal welfare reflects our values and the Co-op's history. It’s an issue that should concern us all, as consumers and as human beings.

One star, and that's me being generous. Co-op, you can and should do better.

"Staff attitude stinks in the Minehead…"

Staff attitude stinks in the Minehead Co-op store!
The guy on the cigarette kiosk at 16.15 on 23rd August 2023 was so rude - first to my 76 year old mom, who asked for the kingsize version of her cigarette brand and he snapped at her 'they are kingsize!' I was elsewhere in the store so I was unaware of this. Then we asked another guy if they had lamb burgers and he barked 'we don't sell them not even in chilled'. Then I paid for goods using the kiosk and my card and asked the guy if it was all done, and he turned his head away and blanked me. No courtesy, no smile, no eye contact. Vile experience, the worst customer service I've ever experienced! Awful work Co-op, I really wanted to give you zero stars as you are not worthy of 1. This needs to be posted on Fb & Twitter! Do better or closedown, you do not deserve our custom!

"Do not care about customers"

Since the appalling investigation about their poor animal welfare standards came out, Co-op have been ignoring all social media questions, and I was even blocked when asking why they have ignored their customers plea for better welfare! So much for a Co-operative!! This company does not care about animals, and cares even less about their customers!

"They Don't Listen To Their Members"

At their AGM, myself and fellow co-op members voted in favour of higher welfare chicken. Despite 96% of us wanting this, they have yet to take any action to adopt the Better Chicken Commitment. They say our votes are not legally binding, well then what's the point? You should be ashamed to call yourself a Co-operative!!

"Daylight Robbery"

All coop stores are Scandalously expensive ! I hate shopping at any coop as I don’t like getting ripped off. Nothing they claim justifies their high prices especially during this cost of living crisis. Coop stores should be outlawed , the staff should be wearing mask just like Dick Turpin!!! Go Aldi, any day!!
