"BEWARE - reneg on super excess refund cover"

I have still not received a refund from the super excess insurance and it appears this is how they operate. There is a thread on the Money Saving Expert about Car Target Group, the super excess refund insurance company Vehicle Rent use. There are quite a number of people out there in the same boat as me. Vehicle Rent is not a member of the European Car Hire Reconcilliation Service, so if you have any problems, you don't have any resources to help you get your money back. BEWARE of this car hire company.

After my initial review (see below) Vehicle Rent replied on Trust Pilot that their claims department would be in touch with me shortly. Despite numerous emails to their customer service department, the only reaction I have had is the reply to the Trust Pilot review. I would therefore seriously caution anyone from booking a car hire through them, as they clearly do not care about customer service.

I rented a car through broker Vehicle Rent for a two week holiday in Greece last July. The car rental worked fine. What did not work at all was the super excess refund cover paid for in the Vehicle Rent package. Unfortunately, there was some damage to the rental car which we paid for, then tried to claim back through the super excess refund cover. After taking almost a month to agree that we were entitled to the refund, we were told it would take 90 days for the refund to be processed. It is now more than a 100 days later and we have still not received a refund, nor are we receiving any replies to our emails from the insurance company. If you do decide to book through Vehicle Rent (and as I mentioned the actual car rental process was fine), book any excess cover through a separate company.

"BEWARE - Vehicle Rent are con merchants!"

Reader, beware! Do not use this company!

Booked a car through Vehicle Rent with a company called Easirent. The reviews on the website seemed fine (although they are horrific elsewhere) and booked a 5+2 seater car to collect from Dublin airport. When we arrived, we were told that the car wasn't available and that we had to go elsewhere. We asked for an alternative vehicle and then two smaller alternative vehicles. We were told by Easirent that this was not possible. Lauren, the advisor at Easirent, told us to go to Sixt where an acquaintance of hers would help. We turned up at Sixt and this acquaintance wasn't working. We were charged a high price for booking on the day. We also had to hire another car as the 5+2 seaters were €3000 for a week's hire! The situation was stressful, had placed financial stress on my family, and meant that we had to travel separately, involving additional insurance and fuel costs.
We made a complaint to Easirent who told us to go through Vehicle Hire. After four months going through their complaints procedure in which they asked for more and more financial paperwork as evidence, we finally got a result: we weren't eligible for compensation. This was supposedly because the booking price for two cars was cheaper than the initial car we booked. They did not take into account the insurance (because we hadn't booked it through them, despite this not being an option), the fuel costs, or the stress and inconvenience we experienced as a result of their partner's appalling service. The blame was also placed on us for not calling Vehicle Rent whilst at Easirent's offices - we had booked a car with Easirent and they appeared to be helping us by sending us to Sixt so we didn't think we needed to call.
Incredibly, the only compensation we were offered was a discount for when we book with them again...
Vehicle Rent do not care about their customers. They do not take responsibility for the failings in their business relationships, and place the blame entirely on the customer. Do not risk using them - you may turn up at your destination and not have access to the vehicle you booked!

Response to my review:
- Yes, I've heard all that before. Once again you are passing the responsibility on to us when we followed the advice given by your business partner, Easirent. It was not a thorough investigation. The only reason compensation is not being offered is because Easirent has refused, something your colleague admitted in the latest email. You are clearly unable to do business with Easirent and are not properly representing your customers in such complaints. It's a scam.

"Immer eine andere Ausrede um die Rückzahlung der Kaution zu verweigern."

Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,

ihre standardisierte Antwort, ich soll mich an check24 wenden, hat mir seit Wochen nicht weitergeholfen, da ich ebenfalls nur standardisierte Antworten bekomme.

Der Grund warum sie mir meine Kaution von 1700 Euro nicht zurückgeben wollen, trotz Vollkasko mit 100% Rückerstattung der Selbstbeteiligung ist immer ein Anderer. Sie entscheiden willkürlich die Rückzahlung zu verweigern indem sie sich auf ihre AGBs beziehen. Nach mehrmaligem Nachfragen können mir keine Beweise geliefert werden, wieso die zu erstattende Summe mir nicht zurückgezahlt wird.

Es handelt sich um eine hohe Summe und ich lasse mich nicht mit ein paar Standardantworten abfertigen.

"ARNAQUE OU INCOMPÉTENCE ????"

Je ne sais pas s'il s'agit d'un site d’arnaqueurs ou d'incompétents !!! Cela fait plus de 10 jours que j'envoie des mails et que j'appelle pour annuler une réservation.
Pas de retour mail autre que celui de prise en compte.
Au téléphone les interlocuteurs me répondent que tout va être fait dans les minutes qui suiven....
Mais toujours pas de confirmation ni de remboursement.
Je vous déconseille fortement ce site de réservation.

"Excellent service, great value for money"

This was the first time I had hired a car abroad and I was pleased I went with Car-wiz. The car hire office was easy to find, communication was excellent, the member of staff who served me was friendly and helpful. I opted for the additional insurance cover so as I wouldn’t have to pay anything more if there was any damage / accidents. The overall hire costs including this fee were extremely reasonable. I had a minor accident whilst on holiday, an insurance representative was sent out and with me within half an hour which was incredible! The whole process was exceptionally smooth.

"Excellent Service once again."

Once again I picked up a car in Paphos. Last year it was Enterprise, this year it was Sixt and it couldnt be simpler. Gave my name , and hey presto the forms are all ready to sign and was out after less than 10 minutes on site.
Cannot fault the service provided by Vehicle Rent who make it so easy to rent a vehicle.

"AVOID! RENTER BEWARE!"

1 star is too much!

I booked and paid for the car hire in full on my credit card. 2 days before travel I received an email saying I was to pay the car hire company directly ( Which I did) and my money would be refunded within 7 working days. Despite being well over the promised time frame in which I was promised a refund and several emails chasing it I am still being fobbed off by them! AVOID!!

Update 6th December 2019.

So now you have the ordacity to email and tell me that my "claim" has been passed (but for a lesser amount than I paid you without explanation) and that it may take up to 90 days. This is not a "claim" as you call it. It is a simple matter of you owing me a refund in full as I paid the car hire company direct in full as you instructed. You obviously don't care about customer service otherwise this matter would have been rectified within a few days maximum.

Checking out all the other shocking reviews and experiences it seems this is not an isolated incident.

Please don't patronise me with meaningless apologies and statements made to sound like you care!
