"Was very happy with this service"
I was really happy with the service i got from True Traveller after i got attacked by dog recently in Kyrgyzstan. I was able to get medical advice from one of their doctors straight away, and the team helped me quickly figure out where to go to get treatment. They went above and beyond to make sure I was being treated correctly, and in general they were really prompt with everything, responsive, helpful and empathic. I really appreciated that, and also that i could contact them at any time of day to get help/advice. I have actually never had insurance service this helpful, which is why I wanted to write this review.

"Mixed"
I have had a very mixed experience with true traveller. I got a 2 year policy covering my working holiday visa in Canada. Previously I had used them for several years whilst travelling Asia and Australia but was fortunate enough to never have to claim. Whilst in Canada I unfortunately had to make 2 claims. The first was for some emergency dental surgery which was quick and easy and reinburment was made within a matter of days. However the biggest issue I had was with a snowboarding injury. I paid extra for Skiing coverage and when I broke my clavicle I called their emergency helpline. All my initial expenses I paid out of pocket but was reimbursed. The problem came with how to treat the broken bone. I went to 2 different GPS in Canada who both advised that surgery was the recommended and best option. True traveller (technically CEGA group which are their North American representative) said I should fly back to the UK for surgery. Even better they would pay for a second seat for me to allow for extra space to compensate for injury. However I would have to pay for my flight home. Effectively they wanted me to fly home paying for my own flight and then get surgery for free on the NHS. After fighting them for over a week they reluctantly agreed to cover the cost of surgery. I had surgery booked in a town a couple of hours drive away and CEGA organised for a taxi transport. However on the day the taxi never showed up so I had to organise a local taxi company to take me, paying out of my own pocket once again. The costs were reimbursed but once again I found it quite unprofessional. Then as I was awaiting surgery the surgeon refused to operate as he claimed he hadn't received confirmation form my insurance that they would cover the costs. I admit that the Canadian health care system isn't the most efficient and there were some misunderstandings but It required several more phonecalls from myself on my hospital bed to get the surgery sorted. It went well and I was sent home for recovery. This happened in March, just before the pandemic kicked off. I then thought the ordeal was finally over. However for the next few months I received several letters off interior health in Canada saying I still owed them thousands of dollars and that I would be liable if payment wasn't made. I contacted CEGA and they said they would pay. I forgot about it again until the end of September when I received further correspondence from interior health saying that they never received the payment and that my debts were to incur interest. I contacted CEGA once again and they assured me they would finally make the payment. They also told me they would confirm when payment was made. The next week I was actually contacted by interior health, not CEGA, that the payment has been made. So whilst they did finally cover the costs it took almost 7 months for them to make the payment and even then I only heard from the Canadian health authorities that everything was settled rather than from CEGA themselves. I apologise for the length of this review so to conclude yes my claim was covered but my God it definitely wasn't quick or simple, and whilst the Canadian health services must take some of the blame I found the support offered by CEGA varied massively from agent to agent. I felt I had to fight every stage of the way but everything was covered..... eventually.

"Tony was great!"
I had a very good experience with True Traveller. When I was waiting at the doctors in Nova Scotia at 8:30pm I called True Traveller and spoke to Tony. He was extremely kind and helpful and made me feel very much at ease about the process, as I was nervous about the medical costs my doctors visit would incur. Everyone I contacted with regards to my claim was efficient and happy to help. Making the claim was very easy and I was reimbursed in full and quickly!
