"sapphire and diamond drop earrings"

I recently bought a set of sapphire and diamond drop earrings for my wife and over the years I have purchased a half dozen diamonds and some ruby jewelry, plus even a Tahitian pearl necklace. I can say that the earrings I recently purchased far exceeded my expectations, as has literally every purchase I have ever made. I am a little surprised at the negative comments here but I am and always have been a very satisfied customer.

"Don't Expect a Refund"

I've an extremely similar experience getting a refund. I bought a $7K colored diamond that I didn't love in person so I sent it back within 2 days of getting it. It was delivered to them on 1/29 and it is now 2/23. When I contacted them, they said it could take up to FIVE WEEKS to process a return. So they honestly expect to hold $7K of my money for weeks on end while I start to accumulate interest on the charge even though they had the diamond back within a week of shipping it to me. I simply reversed the charge with my credit card company. I'd suggest anyone who returns something to also contest the charge the second the item is delivered. Otherwise, you may never see your money again.

"Faulty product - Terrible Customer Service - Took "forever" for the refund"

I bought an bracelet in December. It is broken after 2 hours of wearing. I brought the item to store for refund and was told the item is faulty and they accepted the return. It is more than 5 weeks since the item passed inspection and I didn't receive the refund. I have the worst experience talking to their customer service, so rude. And please note that you won't be able to write the review on their website, they ask you to send an email to their team for posting review. I am done buying things from Bluenile.

"I purchased a diamond from Blue Nile…"

I purchased a diamond from Blue Nile over 10 years ago. The experience then was outstanding. On 12 December 2023 I decided to trade-in this diamond for a larger engagement ring - 43d wedding anniversary gift. The process from start to finish was absolutely horrendous.

1. Spent 45 minutes with a chat agent selecting a stone. Told the agent I was "sold" and ready to make the trade-in. Agent told me that could only be done via phone. Called the 1-800 number. The sale rep had no record of the dialogue I had with the chat agent. Had I not kept the diamond number from the chat interaction it would have been back to square one. 2023 and no integration of sales channels at this company. Horrendous customer experience.

2. The sales agent failed to disclose the terms and conditions of the sale. E.g. (a) Once trade-in is started you are committed. (b) There could be "issues" during the inspection process of the ring being traded-in. (c) 6-12 weeks delivery time - I learned this from a "diamond expert" who handles escalated issues.

3. I was told multiple times by chat and voice agents the ring would be sent via FEDEX-express for overnight delivery, signature required. Today I received an email from Blue Nile with a FEDEX tracking number. Finally..... I waited 4 hours and checked the status on FEDEX website only to learn the "shipper has cancelled this delivery and no further updates will be provided". What???

4. I spent 20 minutes with a customer care agent who was very professional. He told me the shipment was cancelled because "high dollar diamonds must be shipped via Malca-Express. What?? There are no process / QC checks for a shipment of a $81,000 ring? There is no proactive follow-up with customers who have an order / tracking number cancelled? So here my wife and I set with no idea if the ring is coming tomorrow or not... after a 7 week wait. Weekend plans on hold because Blue Nile has no focus on the customer experience.

Blue Nile was recently acquired by Signet ... the conglomerate that owns several retail jewelry chains. I contacted the Signet CEO and investor relations team about the sales experience weeks ago. No response. And sadly the fulfillment process is just as poorly managed as the sales process. I also filed a BBB complaint. Blue Nile responded to BBB and said they would be in contact with me a week ago. No contact from Blue Nile.... a repeat customer making a major purchase.

DO NOT waste your time with this business. Horrendous experience. There are better options with less stress and angst. Shame on Blue Nile and double shame on Signet.

Update 4 hours later. Received an email from a Blue Nile agent. Ring will ship Monday for Tuesday delivery. Absolutely no regard for what I may have scheduled for Tuesday.

Also note Blue Nile used to respond to Trust Pilot reviews on this website. That process stopped in 2021 … probably after the Signet acquisition.

AVOID. AVOID. Horrendous customer experience.

"Absolutely terrible"

Absolutely terrible, used in the past but would never buy from them again. I purchased wedding ring from them. After 2 weeks found the package thrown over my gate and tampered with. No one signed for the ring inside which was missing from package. On reaching out for help I found the service was terrible, no compassion or help investigating but just deferred me FedEx who said they had delivered and it was signed for but would not provided any evidence of signature nor picture of where the item was left. Escalating to Blue Nile as fedex was there delivery vendor of choice they kept pointing me to fedex and were little help. The investigation took over a month and blue Nile didn’t acknowledge any mistake just sent me a generic message thanking me for my valued custom. I am still waiting on refund. Please do not use them can highlight enough what mistake it would be.

"25th anniversary diamond ring"

I've waited for 25 years to buy this beautiful ring after much hesitation. The ring came in roughly about 2 weeks after I purchased it. It was the perfect size, color, clarity, and cut for me. It's beautiful and worth. I would recommend buying your diamond from Blue Nile. I did come to the store to get the right size and to choose the ring that I wanted (I physically saw it).

"Avoid Blue Nile at all costs"

I purchased an engagement ring from Blue Nile in September 2023, using their "custom" ring builder. I selected a cushion cut diamond using their inventory tool, set in the Trio pave 18K band. I would never purchase from Blue Nile again, and I would never recommend anyone purchase with them. My situation lead to me being directly in contact with their COO, and with no confidence in the company.

I purchased the ring in September with a “ships by” estimate within 2 weeks of order. As the two week mark came and went, no one from BN reached out. I contacted them via chat and phone, and was told “we’re looking into it and will contact you with updates”, but no such update was ever given. Finally, the order shipped at 3 weeks after ordering and arrived on the promised overnight shipping. All was good to here.

The big event with the ring came, and as many guys probably encounter, I totally flubbed it on sizing. I ordered a 6, she’s a 3.5 — oops!

Fortunately, BN plans for such things, and factor in my purchase was their complimentary first year resizing. So, I called BN’s service line and arranged for the resizing. I was told that likely they could not resize, but not to worry because I was still within the 30 day return period. I confirmed no cost would be incurred to get her the right size, and off the ring went, quoted 4 weeks to get the right size back to us.

4 weeks came, and no word on the ring, so I called again. I was told that BN was exceptionally busy due to the holiday, and that the original agent should not have quoted 4 weeks for resizing, but 4-6. I was confused by this, given that it was likely a new band and not a resizing (I could have just returned and reordered and gotten a new ring in 2-3 weeks), but the agent promised to keep an eye on things and try to expedite things to get the ring back in time for the holidays.

A week later, I had still not heard, so I called again. The agent I spoke with had no context of my prior call, and this time said that they saw the ring was “awaiting price confirmation”. What cost, you ask?! I had no idea, given it’s clearly stated on BN’s site that resizing is complimentary, and I was within return period. As it turns out, the agent didn’t know what this meant either! But again, I was promised they would look into it and get back to me.

A few more days, still no call. So I called again, again told no context on my previous call seemed to exist in the system. But this time would be different, the agent explained after I retold my situation for 20 minutes. This agent had been employed with BN “before the changes” and would personally see to it that my order was addressed. She also could not explain why there would be any cost. I explained I felt held hostage — is it $50, $500, $5000 for this resizing?! I had no earthly idea. The agent promised me they’d be in touch within the next few days.

A few days later, no call. I called again, this time with far less patience. I demanded to speak with a lead, a supervisor, someone in the department that had my ring! That’s not the policy at BN however. I was told that it was escalated to the service supervisor, a singular person in the company who happened to be out on the Thursday I called. They promised to call back.

I repeated this once more, I don’t know why. It continued to go nowhere, no one had context of my previous calls or could explain what was happening, what the cost was, or when the ring would be returned. I was also told that despite returning the ring to Blue Nile within their 30 days, BN management was formally denying my request to simply keep the ring and refund my order.

So finally I penned an email to the COO of BN, the CEO of their parent company, and the BN PR inbox. A few days later, David, their COO phoned me directly. He explained how this was not the norm, but he wasn’t going to make excuses. He was understanding and heard me out. He promised he would see to it that we received the ring back within the week.

A few days later, David called me to say he went to the factory himself to see my ring and it was “beautiful”. I got the tracking number and the ring was on route to be here in time for the holidays, at nearly 6 weeks after my sending it back.

The ring arrived with major scuffing and burrs on the bottom of the band where it was clearly resized, visible to the naked eye I brought it to a local jewelry repair person who said it was one of the worst repairs he had seen from a big box company, and recommend I refuse delivery.

I emailed David and the service director with photos. They agreed it was not acceptable, and provided me with a $500 refund. They offered to “personally to see to it” that if I returned the ring for repairs, the mistakes of Blue Nile to date would not be repeated. If the COO of the company can look like at a ring like this and allow it go out, something is majorly failing at the company. Avoid at all costs.

"Blue Nile Jewelry no longer!"

Blue Nile Jewelry is no longer the company I have done business with in the past. I purchased a Ruby pendant and Ruby stud earnings as a gift. Forget the fact that Blue Nile starts the 30 return policy from the day the items ship, the most upsetting part is that they no longer verify in house the quality of the jewelry. They also no longer are directly involved with the appraisal of said jewelry. The value of the HEAT Treated Ruby's is not worth the paper its written. All Blue Nile is now is a Retail store. I have spent good money with them in the past. Never again. The GIA certified geologist at CIRCA, who's been in the business for 20 years, said the only offer she could give me was the value of the gold. From this point forward I will recommend never trusting Blue Nile Jewelry to purchase anything from. Extremely Disappointed.

"Don’t purchase from this place!!"

Promised an engagement ring on December 27th. Didn’t ship. I followed up and was told it was shipping the next day. That didn’t happen. 5 days later still waiting with no real update on when the ring is coming. They completely ruined an engagement.
I would highly recommend purchasing elsewhere. Our experience has been terrible.
