"AVOID"

Had to give 1 star as 0 was not a option, wait a hour and a half for pickup at the airport, staff very rude! Waited an extra hour at the pickup depot to be given a car that is debatable if it is actually road worthy, while waiting witnessed another couple receiving a faulty car, which they got the blame for even though they hadn’t even driven it, again very rude staff, spoke to who appeared to be the manager who very arrogant and didn’t care about the whole situation! Avoid at all costs! Disgraceful service and unsafe cars!

"A totally dissatisfying experience."

Upon arrival, our transport driver was very rude and curt with other passengers (not to me but I was embarrassed for him) Upon arrival, it was pouring rain and the rear wiper of the car selected for me did not work. The representative said that that was the only car she had and when I then told the manager it was an unsafe car, he agreed immediately and without hesitation found another car without difficulty. After I returned my car to leave Iceland, I received a notice that I had gotten a 4 Euro parking ticket and with their overhead, they would have to charge me about $60 dollars to cover the 4 Euro ticket. The actual credit card bill for the ticket turned out to be $116 ! I am unaware of having received a ticket and they did not show me a copy. My son, also rented a car from them on a different contract, he too received a 4 Euro "parking" ticket and was charged about $60 dollars for the "overhead" expense. He also is unaware of having received any tickets. We both have asked the credit card to dispute these charges. I would not rent from this agency again.

"Sketchy and Unscrupulous"

I completely regret renting from this agency. They were deceptive and sketchy throughout the whole process, and had a number of fees and expenses they tried to charge without explanation. When we returned our car, the attendant found damage to one of the doors immediately as if he knew it was already there. It was the only door he checked, and he looked at the hinges before even taking the car’s mileage. When we explained that not only we’re we unaware of the damage, but also certain that it didn’t happen during our rental, he accused us of lying and attempted to charge us anyway. When he claimed he had proof, we asked to see it and he refused, saying that the pictures “are not for you.” Looking on any website, you can see this exact practice repeated over and over with different customers. Your wallet will thank you for avoiding this company.

"We were charged for damages previously…"

We were charged for damages previously inflicted on the car. We picked the car up at 5 am, so our pictures on pick up were too dark to see the small dents they claimed we made. They claimed to have obviously photo proof of the car before we rented it and the car now to show the damage. We asked to see the pictures for ourselves, and they said, “No. Those pictures are for us, not for the customer.” When I explained that we were having an issue assuming this expensive responsibility without seeing the proof they have, the man just kept saying they have proof, but can’t let us see it.

The whole company seemed weird and sketchy - we’re currently disputing the claim. Of course, it’s their damages department that has the final say on the matter. Like I said, the whole company seems like it’s trying to take advantage of tourists. I completely regret renting from here.

Look on Google Reviews, the stories are horrific.

"Rented a Yaris or Similar (with Air…"

Rented a Yaris or Similar (with Air conditonning), when I got to FairCar in Keflavik, I was given a circa 2008 Hyundai i20 with 120,000 Miles (200000km) with a badly damaged wheel bearing, this car is unsafe to drive in any North American or EU country. It did not have Air conditioning like I Paid for. They said, it's the only car we have. They had lots of new 2021, Hyundai i20 and Toyota Yaris in the parking but they were not for me they said.

For safety sake, (I was doing the Iceland Ring road, like most tourists) The only solution was to upgrade to a larger class vehicle, the only one they had was a 60$/day upgrade, it was a Dacia Duster, which still hasn't Air conditioning and had a non functioning Radio unit..... The engine had Oil pressure issues at start up.... I mean Fair Car rents used cars, used cars that are very old.. I'm extremely disappointed and will never use Wisecar again since I will make sure I rent my car at a one of the Rental Giants.

WiseCar customer experience is good. FairCar in Keflavik is a ripoff.

"Would not recommend"

Customer service is poor, vehicle condition is not great, old 150k+ driven cars. Made us get an premium insurance for EU55 per day for this old junk. If there are any issues with car, he said “Don’t call me, call another number for any help”. Interestingly I was pulled over by a cop, saying the License plate had some issues with the owner of the car and the cop was nice and asked me to keep driving and he will contact the company who owns this car.

Overall recommend renting from a better brand than here, overall you pay the same price for an unreliable and unusable car.

"Is it possible to rate it with 0 stars?"

Is it possible to rate it with 0 stars? Seriously. It says on the voucher that they come and pick you up in the arrival Hall at keflavik. Waited 2 hours until some kid who barely spoke English (or Icelandic for that matter) arrived and picked me up. However he left a senior couple behind because he said he would only take the main driver's to pick up the cars. On the way he was blasting techno and driving recklessly. Once arrived at the office I waited another hour. Finally I went through the registration process. The agent went to get the car. It was completely run down. Never seen anything like it. Rusty. Full of dents. Parts missing. 200k miles down. Complete garbage. She wanted to make me sign those damage report papers because those didn't cover all of the damages. Once I drove of the yard (yes, junkyard) the car signaled an electrical failure. I returned. The mechanic reset it, instead of running a diagnosis and sent me away. While there I saw how many people returned their cars and were made to pay horrendous sums on the spot. The whole office runs 8 different (but same) car rental companies. Same people, different names. Ripping people off. Stay away, spend money on hertz or sixt or whatever. Don't go independent in iceland. They'll make you pay muuuuch more. I guess I won't have to tell what kind of people work there. Just place a call and get an impression.

Btw the battery was dead after a day. The hood was also loose and almost came off. If you value your health, stay away

"Not that bad!"

After reading all the other reviews I was pretty terrified as to what the experience would be! But to be honest everything was fine…smooth pickup and drop off. Yes, the car had an obscene amount of miles on it and check engine light blinked the whole trip, but it got me through 800 miles in the West Fjords. The rental price was so much less than the big rental companies so you get what you pay for! But all in all it worked out just fine.

"UnfairCar ils devraient s'appeler !"
