"DONT RENT A CAR HERE!"
0 Stars - worst company ever.
DONT RENT A CAR HERE!
A new windscreen, which was pre-damaged for 1200 € - and 150 € more for some "Administration Fee".
FairCar is the most worst name for this Company. RipOfDudes would be better.

"I want to warn everyone about the bad…"
I want to warn everyone about the bad car rental company Faircar / Nordic car rental.
We rented a car there for our tour last month and had 3 breakdowns in 5 days. Very poorly maintained cars. And then if you think they are helping you, forget it. The first time we stood still for 4 hours before another car was brought with great difficulty, the second time they did nothing for us at all (phone was just hung up or not answered at all and the 24-road service did not get permission from the carrental) . So we had to pay EUR 680 for the 24-road service ourselves to have someone come. Eventually towed and after a total of 7 hours we got a replacement car again. The third time the car went into a kind of emergency run and fortunately we could still drive to a garage ourselves. The mechanic stated that the problem should not have happened and the car should have been checked for this before issuing. I have been trying to contact them via email for a month now, but no response whatsoever. They are scammers.
Also check Google reviews, this story is not an isolated one.

"DONT USE THEM!!!"
DONT USE THEM!!!
Worst car rental ever!
Beaten up car not fit for driving.
NO possibility to check the car when picking it up in the dark and rain.
NO possibility to get final statement at drop-off. Only a "driver" present although a specific time was agreed.
Ridiculous fees!

"Uhmmm, quite bad, embarassing company!"
Uhmmm, cheper car than the rest, but they charge you a crazy amount of money if you arrive later than 18:00.
In addition they ask a deposit of 300.000 for a minicar with 150.000 km, this means more than the value of the vehicle. If you can't afford blocking this mount they propose to pay 19 eur per day (crazy) for an insurance and so you can block only 100.000, this is almost a fraud. At the end, 6 days after you've released the car the 100.000 ISK is still to be returned.
I would rate 0 stars, but 1 is apparently the limit here!

"Beaten up car and messed up deal"
Booking and accommodation: We booked car and read that we were getting picked up at immediately after landing. We though had to wait for 15 minutes before needing to call. Another 10 minutes went bye before we got picked up. The operator was in my opinion way to uptight. We were not noticed that the whole deposit-amount(prolly more than the car was worth) needed to be on the same creditcard as the driver, unreasonably big amount to add another driver.
Driving experience: comfy big car, with all you needed. However wipers barely working and frontglass with annoying mark, which he already by the start knew about. I needed to myself buy and try to get a refund for new wipers. Another conserning point is that the horn did not work either.
Returning: Not like the agrement, which we wanted to be at 6 o clock. Manager told that we should come earlier. When we arrived we didnt even need to check the car, had to drop it in a window and suddenly a taxi pulled up. Which we all had to cram into, even though Corona-pandemic is currently happening.
Other: The staff seems nice and professional.
All in all Citycar, which i believe the company serving FairCar, is a real bad experience. Would never use them again. Did not expect that Iceland had any shady cardealers, better experiences with private rentalservices in Norway, Greece and Spain.

"FairCar is JUNK"
The first car we rented, an i10, had a noise coming from one of the front wheels and had an unusual hump after every rotation, so we returned the car and explained them the issue. The employee apologized said indeed the car had been sitting in the lot for over 3 months without being rented. What the should have done is remove the car from the lot and not rent it out as it was likely very unsafe to drive at all. Shame on them and strike 1.
The second car we received, also an i10 but newer, was fine. however, we returned the car after we realized some of the road (non-F-Roads) were still too rough for the i10. So we decided, since we are on our honeymoon, to upgrade our car to a luxury 4x4 in order to not have any problems anymore...and this is where things went completely south..
So our third car was a Ford Kuga, roughly 2 years old (as the Faircar employee said) and it was fine for the first 125km or so. then, after pulling over for a bit, the car wouldn't start back up. We called road side assistance and the pricing would have been astronomical (although expected in iceland). after waiting 15 min, the car started back up, and we were saved by the car gods. We luckily didn't need the road side assistance anymore, but we were afraid to charge our phones in the car assuming this may drain the battery. we kept driving and reached our hotel. Strike 2.
The next morning, same thing happened again! We called the CarFair and explained to them that we received a defective "luxury" car and it was eating up valuable time of our expensive honeymoon in Iceland. The employee did not seem too bothered at all about our concerns and simply said to ask someone to help us jump-start the car not thinking about the fact that the car has a serious issue and may end up costing us more in the end for getting replacement as we were driving further and further away from their office. Having lost 2 hours now, we begrudgingly continued on our journey around Iceland as the Car Fair employee did not offer a replacement service and kept insisting we call road side assistance (on our own cost). So we kept going....thinking maybe it was the semi rough terrain knocking around some wires inside the car. Strike 3.. but we gave it still one last shot.
Of course, again this morning, the for kuga did not start up, no matter how many times we turn the car on and off, locked the doors and unlock the car. We called FairCar at least 15 times but no one answered. it kept going straight to the automated machine and later the number simply did not work anymore. We begrudgingly called road side service again and paid EUR 1.250,00 to get a replacement car on our own cost. No one from Car fair has called back or is answering. You're out!
Faircar is an absolute JUNK of a company and shouldn't be allowed to scam people like this. Never..never..never book your car with them. We would have been better off paying for an ultra expensive 4x4 from a more reputable company in the first place as the total cost would have been the same.

"Unexpected unfair charges after booking"
hi, we just booked a car through guietoisland.is. very easy, and a price was very fair, stating, that this is a final price. BUT! we got a confirmation email already with fair car information, where they stated, that they charge 50 eur extra for off-hours pick up FTW`? At any point of our booking process we were NEVER informed about that, I even double checked with guidetoisland if the prices they offer are final. Had we known that, we would not have booked a car from company, that is NOT even at the airport and you have to be transported....We arrive on 20th of July and we count on we will not pay anything extra. Hope the faircar gets better than the reputation they have here on trustpilot, which I am actually very shocked about as I read it. Then i will be happy to write something possitive. Otherwise practices like that remind me more of our travels in the Balkans than in Iceland. vh Poul Johnsen

"Really bad car rental"
The staff are rude, absolutely not friendly with tourists !
The caution is really expensive, so expansive that the credit card is not working, so you need to pay more to have less caution.. this is a scam !!!
After few days, the car had low battery, and the only solution proposed by the staff was to find some people in the street to use cable !!!!
Really really bad experience

"good experience"

"DO NOT GO HERE!!!"
DO NOT GO HERE!!!
Sadly despite all the negative reviews above they’re still going and ripping off tourists.
You get picked up from the airport (only every 30 mins) by a guy who drives you to a very dodgey looking car hire area far outside of the airport.
Once we got there, he then demanded that we had to have a credit card to secure the reservation but wouldn’t accept any of the cards that we had. His ‘solution’ was to offer £245 car insurance that would cover this. We questioned him extensively on this as it clearly made no sense.
We thought at this point we would at least look at the car he was offering as we had booked it online through Discover Cars and didn’t want to lose our deposit. As per the previous customers, it was nothing like the picture on the reservation and the employee of Faircar refused to acknowledge this.
After a lot of back and forth he tried to offer us a slightly better alternative but by this point the whole thing felt wrong and we definitely thought he would try to rip us off when bringing back the car (if we could even do that as it is just one guy running the pick ups and the desk so you could see that there was a mobile number on the office door to call if he was out!!).
We ended up deciding we didn’t trust this company with the car or the deposit on our card and we ended up renting a car from Europcar in the airport instead. We explained what happened to Discover Cars and they gave us a full refund.
Overall, Faircar is completely unprofessional, trying to rip off tourists and definitely looks like a dodgey front for a real business (the multiple ‘other’ car rentals around there that also seem to be run by the same one guy gives it away). They should be shut down!!
