"Work done to a good standard however …"

Work done to a good standard however after sale was secured and date agreed installation staff then failed to confirm this and were unable to do the week we had been 'sold at a discount for short notice booking' resulting in us wasting annual leave on an alternative date. Staff were not uniformed and brick layer chose to smoke in garden without asking for permission hence not full star review

"STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY IF YOU EXPECT PROFESSIONAL TREATMENT"

Hardworking contractors who did a decent job but everything else was terrible. The work started several months late due to mess up in getting the planning permission. Absolute lack of co-ordination. We put up with that.
However what was completely un-acceptable was the way their credit control department treat the customers. They were intimidating, using threatening language and absolute lack of respect. This was not just one off issue from one person. This attitude lasted during the entire duration of the construction.
They called me to demand payment after stage 1 completion literally minutes after the contractor left my home – given the long delays encountered I least expected this. It happened so, I was away from town with no access to my payment gadget and they simply couldn’t wait for 48 hours. And this is the email they sent minutes after the call. And this is how they continued to make their demands throughout.
"Further to our telephone conversation this afternoon, the first stage has been completed on your conservatory and we now require payment IMMEDIATELY, failing which our representative will call at your premises within the next 24 hours to collect payment. Please confirm by return your intended actions.
Thank you
Installation Department"

I wrote to Smiths on the 9th May 2017 to advise them of the issues I have with their windows - namely the lead lights between the two panes of glass has become dislodged. They sent an engineer on the 23rd May and he agreed that the windows would need to be replaced. I spoke with the service team on the 30/5 and they said the glass replacements were being manufactured. Since then I have heard nothing. Trying to contact them now is almost impossible - no one ever appears to be there you hang on for ages with a message saying "your call is important to us we will be with you as soon as possible". I have left messages on the answer phone asking them to call me. Still no answer.

"We looked into having a conservatory …"

We looked into having a conservatory with this company. The young gentleman who came out to do the original quote was informative and a price was given. Naturally we also wanted some comparable quotations, however this triggered Smith's Glass to become rather persistent and kept calling about doing various summer deals and meeting targets, then sent another sales guy round to re-measure as I discussed a few small changes to the original design during a phone conversation.

In short, the price was reducing if we would sign up with a deposit there and then. Personally I felt uncomfortable and under pressure to make a decision. Along with having many calls, no continuity in conversations between staff and reading the reviews we decided NOT to deal with this company. I called saying we decided not to use them and our reasons, and not to call again, the call ended abruptly, no apology or interest in the feedback given.

This was our experience leading to not using the company. I hope Smith's take onboard our feedback for future custom.

"DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!"

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! I read some of the reviews for the company prior to contracting them to put a conservatory up and they were mixed and after meeting the sales person I felt more at ease. He confirmed we could start beginning of Jan and it would take 3 weeks all in. it took over 3 months to have it completed due to the fact that all the people working on the project were all sub-contractors and no one took overall ownership for the status of the work therefore every time we had someone working at our house when they left no one contacted us to let us know who was coming next and when. Even their team said the company was in trouble as they contracted to many projects and didn’t have enough people to complete the works. My partner and I had to manage the whole process ourselves constantly calling, emailing and leaving messages to know when to expect people; we even took days off work to be home in order to give the team access and twice they never showed!! It has been a very stressful time and if I had known I would NEVER have done it. (Hindsight is a beautiful thing). 8th May when it was finally finished we agreed I would receive a call from the project manager to check we were happy...this did not happen. Then we received a letter in the post a week or so ago to say they have been trying to contact us. I called the number on the letter only to see they had given me the wrong one. So I called the sales office to get the right one and they said they couldn’t put me through so gave me the number. I called the number provided 4 or 5 times – no voicemail so just had to keep trying. Today I get a call, whilst I am home recovering from surgery, from their legal department to say they were starting legal proceedings…I laughed…I think it’s because I wanted to cry so naturally laughed instead. The shock!!!! I couldn’t believe after all the trouble and being told I would get a call after to discuss the work and my satisfaction to then get this call today! I was trying to tell the gentleman who called what had happened and after feeling like he wasn’t listen and continued to talk over me I hung up. Upset I called my partner for him to call them back as I was too upset to talk to them. He called to discuss what happened and to his surprise he was THREATENED by the same guy. Basically said we will send boys over to your house and I tell you when they get there it would be best to pay them!!!! WHAT???!!!! I am disgusted!!! I cannot believe it! Horrible experience. This has definitely not helped me with the faith I have in builders/contractors! Shame really as all in all once the work has been finished I am happy with the result – its just been so tiring and very stressful to get here!

"i am just giving this as they never …"

i am just giving this as they never bothered to resolve my issue/s on my new french doors which was just installed a month ago and start dis-positioning itself. When they marketed the product they promised their product is highly resistant to heat etc and now they are saying it is a common problem for UPVC expanding itself.
Another main point is 3-4 window keys were missing at time of installation and the installer promised it will be posted by the office in a week or so. Since then they never bothered to response on this and i called more than 10 times and always their customer service person say they will look in to it , but i never ever get this sorted yet since more than 2 months now.
To be honest the quality of windows and Doors they install is not that great ,but a basic UPVC one (definitely NOT the one they show you by the marketing person as i have seen couple of their display windows by their marketing people which seems like good quality , but not the one they installing have that kind of quality).
Also at the last minute Smith Glass asked more money (£350) for the equal sight line on my front windows which they were already agreed on their original contract.
At the day of installation - the installers first rejected to fill the border brick gaps with cement which was appeared after their windows installation, then i keep asking couple of times to sort it out before leaving the site which they then agreed and fixed at last. This is not the way they should treat the customer after all we paid lots of money for this windows and doors and not getting the right way of service.
Now i have made more than 5 calls to their after care service department and waiting more than 2 weeks to resolve my existing issue of my main french doors dis-positioned and not closing properly, and none of them have any kind of responsibility to follow it up and resolve customer issue. Well lets see how far this goes and when they are going to resolve the Doors issue. The only worry i have now is i am going to get this kind of poor quality response and after care services (10 years of guarantee they are giving ) for next 10 years since i have installed all my windows and doors with Smith unfortunately. A really bad choice of selection i ever had.
