"Absolutely horrendous experience"

Absolutely horrendous experience. After almost a two hour delay in receiving the car, I received it in a very bad state. Carpets were filthy! and full of stains. After returning it, I was charges with AED 36.60 for 1 Salik CROSSING!!! when I ask their call centre for a breakdown, they tell me they do not have the information!! AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE

"Absolutely horrible service and dishonorable staff"

Absolutely horrible service and dishonorable staff - would not recommend!

Reserved a car from the Avis US website and received multiple confirmations of the reservation leading up to the day before the date of reservation. We show up at the counter and are told that they are out of cars - this despite having a standing reservation and being an Avis Preferred (and Corporate) member.

The staff promise to deliver a car to us before the end of day. They mention that they are procuring cars from their Abu Dhabi location and guarantee us that we will have a car delivered to our hotel. Throughout the day we made multiple phone calls to the location and almost all except one call went unanswered. The one that was answered was hung-up right away. This was an infuriating experience and threw our plans off.

I reported this to Avis USA customer service and they mentioned something about this site being a “franchise” location and the situation being out of their control and them being unable to honor the reservation agreement.

I have had good experiences with Avis USA locations but I recommend avoiding this location at all costs.

"Tout le monde semble ravi , pas moi ."

Mauvaise surprise pour moi au mois d'aout , Avis Rent a Car s' est prélevé plus de 260 Euros pour une location de voiture que je n'ai jamais faite chez eux . J' ai essayé de les avoir : impossible . Je leur ai envoyé un courrier en recommander pour leur demander pourquoi ce prélèvement , ils ne m'ont même pas répondu . Tant pis je porte plainte . Adviendra ce qu'il adviendra .

"BEWARE! They are not like other rental companies"

I rented a car in September (and am still struggling to get information from Avis).
I picked up the car from T2 Dubai at 1am in the morning with poor lighting. The attendance was very quick and clearly in a rush to get away - I did a quick check and we were on our way.
When returned the Car the attended looked for even a minor scratch and finally found one on the bottom (underside) of the bumper and claimed it had been caused by me and was not there when I took the car. I explained it was night, late and dark and his response was "not my problem, you should have checked the care carefully". Long story short I was told I will loose my 1600 Dhr deposit because of the scratch. Since returning the car I have had 3 separate charges to my credit car by Avis with no explanation as to what they are for so I thought lets ask (as a normal rental company would send you an invoice detailing the charges but not Avis). THe response I got back from AVIS is they need 30 working days to get back to me - that is 6 weeks to tell me why there are 3 separate charges on my credit card!

I rent regularly and never never have I come across such bad customer service and attitude, I have no problem with being charged for tolls etc but at least tell the customer what the charge is for.

As for the little scratch which any normal person would have missed this remains a mystery - I have not got back my deposit so I am guessing they are charging me 1600 Dhr for damage which I did not spot.

Morale of the story - if you have to rent with Avis (as i did) check the car with a fine tooth come as the will charge you for the smallest of scratches - and don't take the word of the attendant who checks out the car, have him mark the smallest of blemishes otherwise like me you will get lumbered with a 1600 Dhr bill!

"Poor customer service"

Poor customer service, took long to get the car and then they added charges. On return same again. Customer service is very very poor. Never had bad service like this from any car company. Surprised why avis not taking any action about it

"Do Not Use Avis UAE For Your Vehicle Rental / Lease"

What ever you do in the UAE, hope that you enjoy yourself as it is a fantastic country. However, do not use Avis UAE for your car rental or long-term vehicle lease, the customer service team are next to useless and the accounts team are bordering on incompetent.

"AVIS; Scam, Fraud and Deception"

Catastrophic experience with AVIS in MKD SKOPJE


We rented a car in Skopje (Macedonia) 750Euro 25 Days and if we paid the full amount in advance and registered our credit card for deposit,
then we could deliver it now as it suited us within the 25 day and get money back 30 euros per day before the remaining days we had left, in case we brought the car back, That agreement we accepted and went out and went through the car and made a report on scratches and injuries on the car, and took pictures of all injuries and scratches (Fortunately). After 17 days we agreed to go home and hand over the car, full tank, cleaned in and out, thus it passed as we got it. When we arrived at the counter at the airport, no one wasthere, we waited for 1 hour until they arrived, where all 30 other counters were open. When the person came and got all the documents back, he wanted to go out and check out the car, and that is quite understandable. He comes out and checks out the car and starts pointing to scratches and injuries that hadn't been on the car when we got it,
according to him.
We asked him why he didn't have the report that we did agree before we rent it, he thought it wasn't important, because all these scratches and injuries that were on the car hadn't been there before 100%. We kept saing to the JERK to find the report. He kept refusing to find it, because sccording too the JERK then the car had no damage and scratches before we had rented it, and now we had to pay for all the scratches and damage that was on the car.
Fortunately, when the report was made, we had taken pictures of every page from the report, where the JERK had written all of these scratches and damages down that they existed before we got it. When we showed a picture of the report, he began to pull ashore, but still claimed that some injuries and scratches on the size of the needle had not been there. Then we took out the phone and showed him every single picture with date and damage / scratches. Then he pulled ashore again and claimed that we had handed the car before the 25 day was spent, and we could not get the money back, but in case we came to the skopje again we could borrow the car the remaining days. offcourse we did not agree to this, since the agreement was that we could get the money back, we demanded to come into contact with the employee who had rented the car for us to come and confirm our agreement, after 30 minutes came the employee whom we had rented the car of, and before he came, his colleague had talked to him in phone and told the story etc. When the employee came out he refused to remeber the agreement. But after I start shouting and screaming at the JERK where the whole airport hall got eyes on my rage, he pulled ashore and now he could remember it, but he had no money at the office, so I should have given them a message 1 days before, so I could get the money. Then I said ok then my brother comes tomorrow and get the money 270 euros.
He had not expected that I had a family in a skopje MKD, Oops, he hadn't seen it come. So he says; wait I see if I have any money, just as well he could find 200 Euro, I could get them right away, but then I had to ignore the remaining 70 Euro. When I did not bother and spend more time on it and had too catch the plane, I snatched the 200 Euro out of his hands and slipped. Never rent a car with them anymore. If you want to do it anyway, take a picture of each scratch and damage as you have to prove it has been there at the time of delivery. They tried to scam in every way and they succeeded with 70 Euro. Episode happened on July 24, 2009. S hit Company

"A complete mess"

A complete mess! Do not use ir. They keep me waiting 40 minutes (after a 10 h night flight) because in their opinion my credit card was not good. They insisted it was a debit card (but it was not!) Magically, if I paid for an extra insurance it became valid. I show them I always used tt and my bank account but they did not want to pass it in the machine. Tired of the situation i warned them I was resident in Dubai and i kew that trick. So, the guy decided to use my credit card and it worked. He wanted just to try to steal me the money for an extra insurance. And more, the car was 98.000 km old (done in the UAE...), dirty inside and with a lot of small problems. Back home i received extra charges in my credit card without amy receipt or explanation. You decide ;-)

"I would not rcommend this company…"

I would not rcommend this company .they charge extra cost fuel ,cleaning etc. very expensive , does not answer for requests .No any staff in operating hours , contact with call center costed me a lot .

"Think about another car hire company"

Have used Avis before and overall was satisfied. However, based on my last experience I would recommend using another car hire company.

My pick up location was changed without Avis bothering to tell me. T3 to T1 DXB . Not a huge problem a car was available but surely it would have been polite to let me know ??

Staff in the office were friendly. However, the staff that show you round the car leave an awful lot to be desired. They simply want to get rid of you in the shortest possible time. The petrol tank was three quarters full (despite the terms being that it should be full) making it difficult to estimate how much petrol to put in to bring it back to that level on return. The car had not been properly serviced and there is no attempt to show you the basics. I attempted to decline the car offered but the man who I was releasing the car to me either couldn't or wouldn't understand. I should have stood my ground but was tired and just wanted to get to my hotel.

I had a minor bump on the car (my fault) and was promised that I would get a report on the cost to repair and pictures of the repair. To date all I have is Dhs 860 taken from my credit card which seems a lot for the damage caused. I have no proof that the repair has even been completed

Many Avis cars are registered in Abu Dhabi making paying for parking by mobile impossible. Mentioned this on my previous trip but clearly just ignored.
