"I called around looking for good rates…"

I called around looking for good rates for a HELOC. Took my time to decide on where to apply. I finally landed on Bethpage based on things that I asked whilst speaking a loan representative. It took me about two weeks to begin the loan process.

I was told that if I was approved I would get a call within 2 business days. That never happened. So I called them and I was told that was approved a smaller amount than what I requested. That's not what bothers me though.

Finally, I get some email correspondence from the person who is supposed to call me and explain next steps. That didn't happen he sent email full of information that I didn't understand. In the email communication he made certain assumptions that were extremely inaccurate. I responded to his email with notations. No follow up via email, so I call and speak with him. I mention the erroneous information he eluded to in his email correspondence step by step.

He gave me the rate I was approved for and sent documents for me to sign. I too, was supposed to send along other documents they required (I get that part). If you sent me a letter telling me what my rate will be for the amount you approved me for, why then turn around and tell me the rate may change based on the outcome of the appraisal for my home? Why not just wait until you've done all of your due diligence on my behalf and then give me the rate? It felt like bait and switch. Oh yes you're approved for a 7% interest rate. Read further down and it says the initial rate might change. I know that HELOC's are tied to the Prime Interest rate plus whatever they decide to add to it. Credit worthiness, DTI, LTV. Why on earth would you tell me my incoming rate then tell me it might change as a result of the valuation of my home?

"The Bank that fools you and pulls you in until it's too late!!!"

They would be good but way to many "Gotchas" there security is nonsense and extremely frustrating. They do not take customers experience into account on barely any interactions. They're always saying sorry or don't even bother and give you B.S. 7 years, never missed a payment on my mortgage on credit line but they pulled the line out of no where with no warning. I've paid six figures in debts in that time always conducted myself responsibly but they have incompetence rampant in all departments. I'm a IT professional and I would fire anyone who let half their apps go to PRODUCTION. That says a lot about management. Never late but they treat you like your a criminal. Caveat Emptor! Their reply is auto generated- so that speaks volumes!!!!

"Terrible Experience with Beth Page FCU "

Terrible Experience with Beth Page FCU – Avoid Them!
Our experience with Bethpage FCU was extremely disappointing. We opened a line of credit in September, 2021 to bridge the gap between purchasing a new home and selling our old one. When the sale of our old home was completed in May, 2022, the title company wired the proceeds to our Bethpage savings account, as they couldn’t send them directly to the line of credit. I called Bethpage FCU to transfer the funds from savings to pay off the line of credit, and assumed the matter was resolved. In January, we even received a 1098 tax form showing a $0 balance on the line of credit.
Fast forward almost two years, and we discovered that the line of credit had never been paid off. Bethpage had charged us over $13,277 in interest during that period. Each month, they used autopay to withdraw interest payments from our savings account, which was meant to pay off the entire loan. So, instead of reducing the principal, we were just paying interest while Bethpage earned interest on our five-figure savings at a paltry 0.01%, all while charging us 5-8% on the loan!
I spent four months disputing this issue with Bethpage. Their response? They blamed us for not checking our statements, despite the fact that we were dealing with serious family issues at the time. While I acknowledge some responsibility, Bethpage could clearly see there was no principal repayment because we believed the loan had been settled. Despite this, they showed no empathy, refused to negotiate, and wouldn’t even consider reducing the amount owed.
I argued this was clearly a bookkeeping error that Bethpage could have corrected or at least worked with us to resolve. Instead, I was forced to use $13,277 from my retirement funds to avoid damaging my credit. Although they offered to waive a fee if we closed the line of credit, it felt like an empty gesture as we hadn't intended to close the account. Ultimately, I did close it because I never want to deal with Bethpage again. This experience was so stressful and worrying due to the significant amount, though it clearly meant nothing to them. To Bethpage, we were just stupid old people and they treated us as such at every step!
For such a large institution to show absolutely no goodwill to a retired couple who made an honest mistake is unacceptable. DO NOT USE BETHPAGE FCU.
Addendum: Their reply is auto-generated. I worked with their customer service team during our months of hell dealing with them. Their response is not sincere and amounts to nothing. Don't be fooled!

"Stupid? Dishonest? Incompetent? All Three?"

i cant tell if these people are just plain dishonest or incompetent or a combination thereof.
First of all, we are experienced borrowers and have borrowed/mortgaged hundreds of thousands of dollars over our lifetime without a single repayment issue and we have an excellent credit rating for 30 years.
We were looking for a HELOC. we explained exactly who we are and what we wanted. After days and hours of answering their questions and sending in the required information they denied the application because it was for a non-primary residence. They knew from the moment we contacted them this application would be denied but they put us through the hoops anyway to get our information which they will now sell so we may be bombarded with invitations from who knows who. It was a scam to get our details and nothing more. i am considering an official complaint if I can figure out who to contact though I realize this practice is protected by the lawyers and liars who make the rules. In any case, watch out. It's na fishing expedition for financial data and nothing more.

I went to open an account and was seen right away. I didn’t have to sit there and for long period of time. The lady who assisted me was friendly, professional and courteous. I was in and out. I always have a great experience with Bethpage.
