"Hidden Fees, Poor Support – A Risky Experience with TravelUp"
I booked a British Airways ticket through TravelUp and unfortunately made a small typo in my last name. While most reputable airlines, including British Airways, allow minor spelling corrections for free, TravelUp charged me £50 just to “process the paperwork.” This was nearly half the cost of my original ticket – an outrageous fee for a simple change that the airline likely wouldn't have charged for.
What made matters worse was the rude and dismissive customer service. The support center appears to be outsourced, and the agents I spoke with were unhelpful, robotic, and in some cases downright impolite. There was zero flexibility or empathy, and the whole interaction felt like they were more interested in collecting fees than actually helping customers.
After doing some research, I found that I’m far from the only one with this kind of experience. Many customers report being hit with hidden charges, inflated change fees, and weeks or even months-long delays in getting refunds for canceled flights. Others mention that TravelUp tries to pass off standard airline fees as “taxes” or internal “admin charges,” sometimes demanding hundreds of pounds for simple changes or refunds.
Even worse, there are alarming reviews describing unauthorized charge attempts and shady refund practices that border on scam-like behavior.
At best, TravelUp is a poorly managed agency with terrible customer service. At worst, it’s operating unethically and exploiting travelers when they’re at their most vulnerable. Either way, I strongly recommend avoiding this company. You might save a few pounds up front, but you risk losing much more in fees, stress, and time later on.
Book directly with the airline or use a more reputable agent. Trust me – it's not worth the risk.
