EQ Bank

"I had my accounts fraudulently broken…"
I had my accounts fraudulently broken into. This account was a savings account mainly and there is very little activity on this account over the last 5-6 years since I opened it. The only activity is mainly deposits and I can't remember the last withdrawal I even made if any. But I guess this isn't a warning sign that people were taking money out many times and the withdrawals get larger each time. All banks have a fraud department and it is there job to over see and watch for odd movement on all of our accouts. Of course I didn't know about this until the RCMP told me while making a report. She told me she was surprized that they didn't even caught it. I was the one the call EQ bank and to tell them I can't get into my account..I guess someone stole my bank account and gave themselves a new email address. I had 2 other bank accounts tampered with also. One for hardly nothing and the other for quite a bit. These 2 credit Unions took care of business right away. They were very professional. I told EQ then to freeze the account right away so we can find out what has happened. The credit Unions took less than 10 days and Eq Bank well it's been over 6 weeks now and they have not once reached out to me. I did all the calling to get nothing. Oh one person did say thatif they don't get my money back from the crooks they if the bank is no responsable for it they will not pay me back. Nice, and then then they still will let me see my accounts so I don't even know what was taken. Real nice Bank. Lots of promises but not one person has called me. I quit calling now. I have to wait for 60-90 days. That the waiting time before you can report them. Most of my money there is in a gic and I can't remove it if I wanted to until due date. But when That day comes I will no long deal with that bank. If they let me cash it in with no interest I would do that just to rid myself of them. Be very careful of what banks you are dealing with. They are very bad news.

"A tech failed online bank!"
This is an online bank that has not been able to download monthly account statements since November, 2022. When I tried to download, the transaction crashes, and I get a screen notifying me: “Oops. Something happened on our end.“ To make matters worse, the bank has done nothing to notify customers of the problem, or to give a projected fix date. If you spend enough time to get a live customer rep on the phone, you may eventually be told you can download your statements using the Bank’s app on your phone. That’s their only “solution” after three months of a tech failure. Now I’m reading the reviews here talking about recent hacks of accounts. This bank’s systems are obviously a tech failure, and I plan to leave promptly.

"Account breach, over $4,000 stolen...."
My account was breached and over $4,000 was stolen through a series of fraudulent e-transfers. EQ Bank said they will not reimburse me, despite their online banking security guarantee that says otherwise. I quote: "If Unauthorized Activity is conducted on your account through our mobile and online banking services, you are protected and will be reimbursed 100% for any resulting losses to your account...." Yeah right. They basically said it was my fault and there was nothing they could do.
I've had my account since 2016 and have never used e-transfers to move money, so when the first e-transfer happened, I wish there would have been some kind of notification. A couple of weeks later, when I was notified of the fraudulent activity, they said their security team was doing an investigation and would get back to me within 30 days. I never heard from their security team. Instead, my account was locked and I was unable to access it. Whenever I called customer service, I was told the security team would call me back in 1-2 business days. I didn't get any call backs. So, I would call again and was told the same thing, "The security team will call you back in 1-2 business days." Again, no calls.
I was finally able to get through to someone that was able to help me access my account and find out what was going on with the security investigation. That's when they told me they would not cover my losses. At that point I decided to close the account (why keep money at a bank that won't help you if your account is compromised). However, I was unable to move the money out because my account had a restriction due to the fraudulent activity. If they already concluded their investigation and decided they weren't reimbursing me, why was my account still restricted? When I tried to get the restriction removed it was back to, "our security team will get back to you." I had to call them and was finally able to move my money out to close the account and end the nightmare with EQ Bank.
I was generally a satisfied customer, which I guess is easy when everything is fine, but as soon as something went wrong, EQ Bank failed and did not support their customer.

"EQ Bank supports their customer"
I posted a few days ago about fraudulent withdrawals from my EQ Bank accounts. After some messaging and conversations, the bank has agreed to cover our losses as goodwill gesture. We are very grateful even though we feel they had some responsibility to avoid the diversion. In the end they lived up to their advertised promise to protect and reimburse their customers. I give them high marks for that.

"I had 2 accounts for years with EQ…"
I had 2 accounts for years with EQ Bank. In Jan/23 my account was breached and $13900 was stolen. I did not get immediate notice of the illegal transactions and the bank was only able to recover $1050 US. They took no responsibilty for the rest despite their advertised claim of reimbursing customers 100% for losses due to fraud. I am trying to pressure them for reimbursement. It appears their security is not strong and they will not support customers who lose because of it.

"This time IT’S ALL THEIR FAULT"
They've requested an update so here it is. The newest incidents are that they send e-transfers back to the person who sent them even though I have direct deposit on and it specifically tells the sender their e-transfer can't be cancelled once sent. These are not cancelled. This is the individual showing me that it's been sent then the money being sent back to that individual. 4 times in 2 weeks and complete refusal of a refund and denial of responsibility with 2 different BS stories I won't bother with here. That's EQ Bank
----------------------------------------------------------This time it's personal, and it's all their fault. If there were negative stars, EQ Bank deserves them. I learned to put up with all the breakdowns and random logouts as I stated in a past review, but for the last week I have been unable to log into my account and it's all their fault.
For no reason they sent a "Verification Code" to my email, or said they did, and when it didn't arrive in my email folder there was no way to login to my account. Live chat support walked me through a bunch of steps until we finally knew for certain the issue is on their end, then he gave me a phone number to call. I called it, set up a call back and to this day have never received that call. I then phoned customer service. They walked me through every step I went through with the live chat agent, once again realized the issue is on their end, sent in a complaint, and told me I'd receive a call within 2 days. That call never came. A third time I phoned. I was again made do all the same things and told I will receive a phone call. I don't expect to get that call and I don't know what to do next. Tomorrow morning I plan to call the RCMP to find out what can be done when a bank steels your money.
It should be noted, I have never forgotten my credentials. I have never, not even mistakenly, entered the wrong email username or password. I answered every security question correctly and was even able to tell them when the last transaction was and for how much because I still receive those emails every time. I receive every email from EQ Bank except when they say they send a verification code, including the ticket that was sent in by the agents I spoke to. There is no question and they have no doubt that I am who I say I am, but they refuse to remedy the situation, sending me in a never ending circle of waiting for phone calls that, just like the verification codes, never come.
The money in this account is all the money I was able to save up to give my daughter a hopefully enjoyable 16th birthday. Her birthday is tomorrow and because of that, even though I live in New Brunswick, I was willing to drive to the actual bank in Toronto to show them my ID and close the account, but was told that even if I did that, they still would not give me my money.
It's almost like all the other failings of this bank stopped getting to me so they did this.
I can't afford a lawyer. I know by reading other reviews that they've been reported to the Better Business Bureau in the past, and I know if I call again they'll just do the same thing and I'll wait another 2 days for a phone call that never comes.
As it stands, I am starting to think I will never see that money again. Whether I get it back someday or not though. She only turns 16 once. Her birthday is tomorrow. It's ruined, and it's all their fault.

"Great rates and service, why not “Joint” GICs?"
Great rates and service. Excellent place to park your money until it is needed. I only wish they offered “JOINT GICs”. My wife and I have other joint GICs with other institutions. Was surprised to find out EQ Bank does not.

"Love EQ"
I use EQ as my main bank, I can highly recommend them. They have a fast slick desktop interface. I say I have had any significant issues, I have been using them for 3+ years. My only complaint is the website times how often which is annoying, not sure why but only bank that does this to me. I highly recommend them

"Amazing service"
Called customer service and they literally answered immediately without any time on hold! The agent was super helpful and clear on the phone. Great service compared to other banks.
