"Scam of a company. 0 stars"

Sometimes, coming on trustpilot and seeing that a company has mostly awful reviews makes one feel a tad better, but also leaves one wishing one had done a bit of research prior to using the company. Long story, I needed a charge and found a ubitricity lamp-post point in Chingford. I scanned the QR code, plugged in and chose the smart charging option but charging didn’t start. So I called the helpline and was told to reconnect and choose the normal tariff, and that the ‘system’ would still recognise that it wasn’t peak and adjust as needed. This was 11.50 am so should have had at least 4 hours of non-peak charging. I kept an eye on the app, expecting to be notified of charge level but it just kept going round, saying charging. Same thing at about 10pm at night. I needed a full charge for a long-distance trip the next day so I thought I’d leave overnight, since it would be charged at off-peak anyway. Alas, next morning at 8am, still nothing to indicate level of charge but I had no choice but to disconnect as I was travelling. Suddenly, £36.48 left my account! This on top of the £25 holding fee, £61.48 of my money held. Firstly, the deposit or whatever it was, should be used for settling the final bill; so if you use more, they only debit the balance from your account to make up the final bill or if you use less, you’re refunded the balance. Secondly, I have a point at home and don’t spend anything close to £36.48 a whole month and I’d only used a bp pulse once which cost about £5 for a 30% charge so imagine my shock at this hefty fee! Thirdly, I was advised the system would not charge peak but still did even though I, through no fault of mine, couldn’t use smart charge. Then, I got two invoices- one for 18 hours 13 minutes which equated to £11.64 and one for 20 hours 15 minutes (my charge time) charged at £36.48! Even though there were only two hours difference in usage time, such a massive difference in final bill, and till now no explanation as to why I got two invoices anyway. I made a couple of calls in which, interestingly, the rep was quite nice however, the person responding to my subsequent emails was rude and condescending. Even though the phone rep was relatively pleasant, he didn’t do what he said he would which was to raise a complaint, because I haven’t heard from anyone and the emails have stopped. I got their charge card but I will be cutting it up and avoiding their points in future.

"Totally frustrating"

Totally frustrating. Tried two Ubicity chargers near my home in Clapham tonight. Neither would work. Reliability in my experience not just tonight but over several months is poor. This company needs to pull its socks up.

"Very flaky and unreliable"

New chargers recently installed in my street but one has never worked and the other has a petrol car permanently blocking the slot. In the adjacent street there are a few more but I cant get them to work despite multiple phone calls. The system hangs saying "waiting to start charging" and the green light flashes. I am not trying to charge in the peak period.

"Poor system, unreliable website and charging"

Using on-street charging
Had been charging for 2 hours but got an invoice charging me for 7hrs.
Charging randomly stopped after two hours.
Tried to start charging again but just getting a 'Charging starts soon' msg and site is stuck.
No reliable way to see status of charging - the site the QR sends you to is inaccurate and glitchy.

Never works when I need it, you plug in and follow the instructions then nothing. I have used them but unfortunately very unreliable

"Disaster"

I had an extremely horrible experience with trying to use one of their lamppost charging points. I connected my car to the charger and made the payment but it wasn’t charging therefore I called their customer service line for support, I was told the charger wasn’t working because it was down due to technical issues and there was nothing that could be done but they never mentioned any of this before they charged me £25, I had no money in my account except for that last £25 as I like to keep cash instead which effectively left me stranded, I’m still waiting for my refund. If you’re reading this and thinking of using one of their lamppost charging points I strongly advise you not to as it is a waste of your precious time, go anywhere to charge your car except for Ubertricity, you have been warned.
