"WORST PAINT EVER"

WORST PAINT EVER! DO NOT BUY!!!!!
Bought a litre of Valspar 'Potrait of a bluestock'. Painted over white perfect bedroom wall. Two coats in and it's terribly patchy! Absolutely horrendous coverage and doesn't seem to spread well at all. Can't believe the company produces such poor paint! STAY AWAY!

"Paint is like water"

Gorgeous colours but the paint is like water. Takes at least 5 coats to get on and even then it's not fully even! I'll never buy Valspar again.

"A Comparison: Valspar Premium vs Dulux!"

I felt compelled to share my positive experience with Valspar paint to counterbalance some of the negative reviews here. As first-time painters renovating our entire flat, my partner and I decided we should compare Valspar and Dulux before picking just one brand of paint for the whole process. For context, all of our walls had previously been given the "landlord-special" i.e. flat-matt white paint on every single wall, so we were not covering any dark or thickly painted walls.

When choosing colours, we visited our local B&Q and were impressed by Valspar’s extensive colour range and we fell in love with the colours. However, I was initially concerned after seeing Valspar’s low Trustpilot rating of 1.6 stars. Despite this, we opted to trial Valspar in one one room with their Premium paint; we loved the colour options, as well as the in-store colour guarantee and helpful experience with the B&Q staff. We even tried to colour-match Valspar colours to Dulux, and found that every Valspar colour looked fuller, richer and generally just nicer than the Dulux samples we ordered. In the end, we have painted our office in Herb Garland and Summer Valley, and our kitchen has been painted in Soft Spoken.

Painting just the office to begin with, we encountered no problems with Valspar Premium at all. It covered well with just two coats, the coverage matched the free online estimate, and the finish was beautiful. It’s worth noting that the negative reviews seem to target Valspar’s Classic line, not the Premium, so I would recommend you pay the extra few founds for the latter.

In contrast, our experience with Dulux in another room was disappointing. We painted two walls in the living room / kitchen with Sunflower Symphony 4, and we are currently painting the bedroom in 3 different autumnal shades. All our Dulux painted walls have required multiple coats and provided poor coverage, and the drying time between coats was significantly longer than the Valspar. Dulux has made the painting process slow and unsatisfying. Additionally, the purchasing process with Dulux was frustrating—our delivery directly from their online store never arrived, which made us go down to Homebase to mix the paint in person, where we faced unhelpful service and were warned of their very strict no-refund policies. We are now attempting to complete our bedroom with the Dulux paint we purchased and all we can think is "I wish this were Valspar!"

Price-wise, I genuinely feel it itself balances out. Although Valspar is a bit more pricey on paper, especially the Premium range, the coverage is so much better that a 2.5L can of Valspar managed to paint several more walls than the same amount of Dulux paint.

Ultimately, we will be choosing Valspar Premium for the rest of our flat. If you’re debating between Valspar and Dulux, I would recommend Valspar Premium any day. Remember too that proper wall preparation—cleaning and sanding—is key for the best results.

I hope this review helps you feel more confident about choosing Valspar. Again, keep in mind that we've never painted before and are certainly not professionals. We only have experience with these retail paints and no other point of comparison. Nonetheless, I am still genuinely confused how so many people appear to have issues with this paint - we love it!

"Buy premium not classic "

I’ve never read/write reviews before.Until today.Yesterday painted living room with velspar premium on three walls and velspar classsic on another wall , huuuge difference.Premium one covered with one coat perfectly,no undercoat,no primer, just paint on paint with superb effect. Classic one is kinda rubbish after two coats (black color) still not happy, sanded wall down ,primed with pva and painted again ,happy with results. For kitchen and bathroom I bought dulux kitchen and dulux bathroom. Today painted kitchen pva primed walls. That was horrible experience. Basically don’t know how people can say dulux is better than velspar (at least premium) . Later on going to return dulux bathroom and buy velspar premium silk.

"I want to update potential new…"

I want to update potential new customers before making the mistake I did.

I am a first time customer to Valspar paint, I’ve always been a Dulux go to with no issues. Purchased my first tin of Valspar paint just over two months ago, plenty of time to give Valspar customer service to resolve this, which still isn’t! The paint cost me £40! Yes £40 for a tin, this was from the premium range for bathrooms and Kitchen in a hard wearing wipeable matt base. The colour hasn’t been matched to the colour I chose, it’s completely different, the paint smells horrendous, it is a sheen finish, not Matt and it’s not wipeable it literally marks the paint and strips it away. I’ve tried resolving this with Valspar who at first the customer service was good, fast replies the same day, I sent in all the proof they asked and now I’ve heard nothing, I’m getting no replies and my emails have been rejected. I’ve avoided leaving this review and taking next steps in order to give Valspar the chance to put things right, as they haven’t and two months have past of me trying it’s now time to take matters further. Please think twice and do your research before choosing Valspar.

* UPDATE *
Valspar responded on here for the benefit of other potential customers to see, they haven’t contacted me at all and have absolutely no intention of resolving their wrong doing. So unfortunately left with no choice but to take to socials and warn many others as well as take action to retrieve my refund due.

"Utter total complete garbage paint"

Utter total complete garbage paint, three years on and it's still rubbery, the window frames still stick and the sills needed repainted twice. Properly sanded and degreased and primed with valspar undercoat (streaky blobby mess that it is too), the three coats of exterior wood and metal satin with a 15 year guarantee applied over as many days didn't even last two years. I've renovated this entire coach house and stable and used all kinds of paint and products on surfaces and never honestly seen anything so completely rubbish for sale. Cursing the purchase, wish I'd read the reviews before wasting my money, time and giving me all the work of stripping this not fit for purpose muck off my windows.

"Emailed their customer service to…"

Emailed their customer service to acquire all colour swatch fan as guys in B&Q said thats only way to get them as they have one per shop so they cannot give me theirs. After 2 days nobody still had replied (even tho email clearly states someone will respond in 24 hours), so had to call them up to chase it up. Eventually was told I cannot have it as its for businesses only (which makes no sense). Once I emailed back stating I am business owner, their tone suddenly changed and was very apologetic, but if their attitude changes just because if you are business or just a simple man, thats not right. Person I spoke with was Matthew Young. Case number 09775472
All other big brands have no problem to provide them, even if it involves small fee. I am planning to go to B&Q with bucket and just take all sample cards which are there and keep doing it weekly, just because they cannot provide simple product they clearly have.

"Absolutely terrible paint"

Absolutely terrible paint (classic Matt emulsion) Dries far too quickly (minutes) and if you roller over the paint is pulled off the surface and makes a mess of the surface. I’ll never buy this paint again!
Also, Valspar need to look urgently at the ridiculous paint lids they have designed. Very difficult to open without breaking your fingers!

"Stupid paint tin lids "

The person or persons who thought it would be a good idea to invent a paint tin lid that is almost impossible to get off without ripping your nails out,I suggest you have a rethink or just go back to the prize it of with a screwdriver idea, just putting it out there

"Disappointed experience with this paint and local rep"

Like a couple of others who have written a review, I've been decorating for over 25 years. Used Valspar quite happily until June 2023 - it was initially the Simplicity mix which was basically water - no coverage, nothing like colour card, really difficult to use having to apply seversl coats .... this was my first issue with this paint at that time
About 2 months ago a customer called to say problem with room I'd painted - the colour had become patchy. This was the Premium mix. It had changed from peachy to lime green! Not even the original colour of the walls. When I visited the property to look the paint had split, the patches were random and no damp or problem walls etc to 'blame'
So I went to speak to the rep at the local B&Q store. So far 3 x emails plus his colleagues actually sent text messages to him in front of me asking to contact me ..... no reply from him. I feel hes avoided me when visiting in person. B&Q have offered to reimburse the cost of the paint (yet to receive confirmation email from 2 weeks ago though) but I've still got an angry customer who needs to pay for room to be redecorated, doesn't trust Valspar anymore and just wants the rep to respond
I then emailed Valspar (10 days ago) direct - copies of email to rep along with photos of the room. Again, no reply
Good customer service is about how the company deals with issues/negatives. It's about how they can win back my trust in.the product. So please Valspar ...... read these reviews and take action
