Valspar Paint

"Expensive poor quality paint - doesn't bond. "
Previously have used Valspar Paint without any issues, it's still holding up well and looking great in my living room after being painted five years ago. Recently after buying within the past few months to decorate the upstairs and hallway, it seems to not be bonding to the wall and not sticking...this has happened in multiple rooms with different paints despite all walls being washed, sanded, and prepped. Absolutely devastated to have to redo our paintwork all over again after the paint has bubbled and peeled away. This is expensive paint and I expected better quality, I've had to waste time at a critical point in decorating and I'm just shocked at how poor quality the paint is now - won't be buying again and wish something could be done to rectify the situation. Just to add this was all with the premium paint.

"Valspar Reserve Guarantee"
I purchased a gallon of Valspar Reserve, from Lowes, in a red tint to cover a white wall. The guarantee of covering in one coat is rubbish. Using standard painting practices of trim work first and rolling afterward, produced an uneven result with every new column of paint showing through the previous column. Since the guarantee is right on the can, I took the unused portion back and am expecting to hear from a Valspar representative in the next day to get a refund. I took photos of the finished work to prove the coverage is not what is stated on the can. Lowes people were very helpful.

"Not fit for purpose"
Emulsion paint clumps and doesn't stick to all of the wall. I am trying to paint over Dulux white matt emulsion, which I lightly sanded and washed down on Sunday. Two days later, today, trying to use Valspar, is frustrating at the least. This paint is not fit for purpose. It's clumping together in places, not sticking. To summarise, it's useless. A complete waste of my time. I have now got to wash it off the walls and buy a Dulux colour paint that I know I can trust to do what it had supposed to do. I'm also taking the paint back this afternoon with photographs of the wall and asking for a refund, in line with my statutory rights.

"Premium emulsion just peels off the walls"
I have used Valspar classic emulsion on walls in the past and found it to be very good indeed. The last 2 rooms I have decorated I used Valspar Premium and it just won’t seem to stick to the walls it just chips and peels off. In the end I peeled off and sanded as much as I could, which was about half of the paint, and re painted using some old Valspar classic that I had left and it went on fine and stuck to the wall. Another wall I then painted with Dulux and that went on fine. There is definitely something wrong about the premium formula.

"Patchy different levels of sheen. Definitely not Matt!"
Painted a bedroom a couple of years ago using premium in royal Henry which is a dark blue and it looked great.
Fast forward to this year when I bought another tin to touch up and paint a new room.
Coverage and colour were not an issue but for the life of me I cannot get a consistent flat finish like the original.
No mater how many coats and using different rollers the finish is patchy at best with different levels of sheen throughout.
I took the paint back to B&q where purchased and they swapped with a new tin of paint. Off I go thinking this will sort the problem but no. Exactly the same results.
I have wasted so much time painting, repainting and trekking back and forth to B&Q only to have to start all over.

"Terrible paint"
We usually go for Dulux easy care but when we popped to our local DIY shop we found they’d swapped to Valspar so we thought we’d give it a go. We purchased the premium paint which was supposed to be wipeable - this is hugely important for us as we have 2 big dogs, the Dulux easy care is super tough and wipeable and so we expected the same from Valspar. Firstly, it was horrible to paint with, patchy all over and the finish is not matt as advertised, it’s more satin with a weird sheen to it (in the darker colours), it also seems to collect dust and looks grubby and uneven when the light catches it. Lastly it is not wipeable in the slightest, it marks when touched, within a week there were dark lines across the wall where our sofas have touched it, I’ve never seen that happen before with any paint we’ve used, it’s not like the back of a sofa is greasy! If you attempt to wipe it all that happens is you leave behind a water mark as well as the original mark and it looks worse than when you started! We are redecorating our living room today, less than a year after doing it, because it’s that bad. Our bedroom is the same. Do not recommend.
