I was seriously in debt when someone, I knew recommended Step Change. Unfortunately, when I begun this process Covid had just started. There was numerous phone calls and photocopies made which seemed like a endless process. Once, everything was in place it all worked like clockwork and it reduced my stress. It also help me to understand how bad my debt got and how I can change the financial mess I got myself into. I am so pleased that Step Change was recommended to me. If you’re worried or embarrassed about talking to someone about your debt problems, then please keep reading. We were feeling exactly that way but the lady who took my call at Stepchange was wonderful, put me at ease immediately and said she was certain she could help.

I was told exactly what information they needed and once they had it, plus the financial budget, they worked wonders. We were in a drastic situation, almost £92k in debt with 20 or so credit cards and an overdraft, trying to pay £2,900 month in minimum payments. There was no judgement of the mess we were in, just positive advice. The monthly payment was reduced to under £400 – the relief was huge, and we got our lives back. The threatening letters and calls stopped within a few weeks. We had next to no contact with creditors over the years, and what did come we sent to Stepchange and they dealt with it.

Stepchange got all the interest and charges stopped so we knew the exact amount we were dealing with. Our annual budget review always seemed to work out and they sorted it with the creditors every time. You can see your progress online and we even managed to spot a few mistakes on creditors statements that got corrected and helped reduce the total a little. We focused on getting the monthly payment met and gradually increased it over the years. We started in 2013 and almost 12 years later we made the final payment a few weeks ago and are now clear.

Yes it was a long haul but it proves it can be done.

Excellent service. The online process is really easy to complete and they offer easy to understand advice either online or by speaking to advisors. It was very easy to get a Debt Management Plan in place and get some control over my finances. It is easy to check your account online and when I have had problems, their friendly and professional advisors have helped. I am now under one month away from paying the final instalment of my Plan. I started the plan in 2018, so it's been a long journey. I would recommend StepChange to anyone who has debt problems.
