"Poor Customer Support "

My voucher said one thing and the car rental said another after the landing so I emailed them twice to clarify the situation. No reply, no support given although it has been 9 days! Where is your 24 hr support??? Won’t use them again.

"The rate from Hotwire was half the rate…"

The rate from Hotwire was half the rate they charged me.
They charged fees for being on the airport but they are off the airport and the fees were 2% higher than if they were on the airport.
They said I had to pay $11.95 insurance even though my credit card insurance covered the insurance, excuse was 3rd part Liability which they said the credit card did not cover.

Overall, a same.
Twice the rate Hotwire accepted my credit card for the rental, roughtly $506 dollars compared to $1165. Hotware did not back up the rate.

DO NOT use Economy car rental in Costa Rica. It was an absolute nightmare. We were ripped off so bad, having to pay an additional $266 usd once we got there, on top of the $331 we had already paid pre. The employees were rude, they bullied us, and basically stole money from us. I would not recommend!!!

"No refund for free cancellation"

I booked a non-refundable fullsize van from Economy Rent A Car in Salt Lake CIty on Expedia.com, but it had a lot of restrictions, and they told me I cannot drive it to Seattle, which was my destination for that trip, but they could approve a free cancellation if I don't want it. So I had to cancel it, through Expedia, whose agent call Economy Rent a Car and also confirmed they did approve for the free cancellation. Then I've never received the refund. When I disputed with my bank, Economy Rent A car denied that they approved the free cancellation and no credit due for me. Then I had to call Expedia. When Expedia agent contact Economy Rent A Car, they told Expedia that I should dispute with my bank. Such a scam!

"No refund for double booking"

Economy quoted the cost of a car rental for 1 week from the Montreal airport as CA$158.89 on a prepaid basis.

I paid by credit card, but my statement later showed a transaction from Fort Lauderdale, Florida charging me US$118.72 converted to Canadian dollars for a charge of CA$166.08.

It looked like someone had hacked my credit card so I cancelled the booking and made a new reservation for the same car, on the same pickup date & place, at the same price. The 2nd booking also appeared on my credit card statement as having been made in Fort Lauderdale in US$.

I did use the car, and it was satisfactory, but Economy ended up receiving payments for 2 reservations. They have refused to refund me for the cancelled booking.

"ECONOMY: Scammers, Untrustworthy, Fake Reviews"

Travelers and potential rent car consumers expect hidden charges and high pressure deception tactics when you rent from Economy. Be aware that as an added bonus Economy strictly adheres to their NO REFUND POLICY, period. It is painfully a fact that there's no backing out once you walk up to the counter, you will be a customer (victim) or lose your refund. Sneaky move Economy!
Charging $1,000.00 deposit to use your own insurance after providing proof of insurance, receipt of payment and a declaration page is just plain wrong. Economy and Agent Alfred, the $1,000.00 deposit is grossly unethical and even goes against Economy's own written policy and terms. Using your own car insurance (binder) to rent a car is a written consumer right and it is wrong to have to pay a deposit to exercise your legal right.
Any and all positive Feedbacks and reviews are NOT real Economy customers, they are either total and complete fakes or unknowing consumers who are about to be scammed, cheated or overcharged. The untrustworthy individuals who post these fake positive reviews should be compensated even more since innocent car renters believe them and Economy is still in business. Be smart everyone, do not fall victim to Economy's false, misleading and "happy" crazy reviews.
Customers want a good deal not a good steal. Looking for a fair deal is to be a smart shopper. We are not looking to be scammed from our hard earned money. I encourage past customers to do their civic duty and post their reviews to alert innocent travelers.
Economy Rent A Car, I simply advise you, you can do better. Fair play falls upon you and you will be rewarded with inner wealth that will shine brightly upon all your smiling and satisfied and returning customers. Seek goodness in your business venture. Plan and prepare for it and you will receive what you seek.
But for now everyone, look elsewhere for honest and fair rent car deals. I also advise Economy to take their unwelcoming business elsewhere and leave hard working Americans and Innocent Travelers alone. On this day, Economy gives the USA a bad name, I wouldn't even recommend Economy to struggling Third World People.

I respectfully request city, county, state and federal jurisdictions to step in and stop Economy until they are willing to taking a step in the right direction. To Economy, it's your move now, be fair and just and meet us half way.

"Unprofessional Scammers"

Would give this place 0 stars if I could…I was in town for a few days and had reserved a vehicle online. When I showed up to the office (which requires you to take a bus from the terminal to transfer to a shuttle offsite, wouldn’t recommend if you have an early flight and need to return), I met a very rude and condescending employee. I didn’t take his name but as soon as we started talking I knew he was a scamming salesman. He tried to charge a bunch of extra fees without actually telling me what they were and when I asked for clarification he tried to make it seem like I wasn’t understanding what he was saying. I’ve rented many cars in my years, and am familiar with the ole “insurance coverage, tolls, etc” upsells but this guy tried every way possible to scheme some add on I didn’t need. My reservation was for $72 and when I asked why the total was coming out $225 he continued to tell me that it was for taxes and fees and some other things I didn’t ask for. I then asked if it was okay if my wife and I stepped outside to discuss what was happening (as I wanted to be reassured that I wasn’t missing something), and she also agreed that this dude was trying to play us. Not to mention, we got off a late flight and were traveling with our daughter. When we walked back in and asked him a question about the quote, he said “I already deleted your reservation. You didn’t pay anything and the price you reserved is null and void.” We were visibly frustrated and not happy with this dude and he seemed to take pleasure in giving us a hard time for no reason because we wouldn’t fall for his scam. We decided it wasn’t worth the time arguing with this guy and went back to the car rental area in the airport and went with Fox Rentals who were prompt, professional and conveniently located in the airport.

The employee had short hair, tattoos, a beard, and wore glasses (latino with fair skin). He should really not in the business of speaking to people because the wrong person wouldn’t have been as cool headed as I was. He was palpably condescending and extremely unprofessional.

Be careful when you book a car rental in advance for Costa Rica....this company is a bad deal!--DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM HERE..................

My 10 day rental for a vehicle in Costa Rica booked from Economy Car Rentals on CarRentals.com was actually $644.46 with a $2,500 credit card hold at the time of pick up. Added charges included an "Incidental Recovery Fee" and a Limited Loss Waiver plus taxes. The Economy Car Rental rep explained that several types of insurance were required in Costa Rica and had to be bought from the car rental company or I could not rent the car. When I disagreed he said that I would need original SIGNED letters and complete policy docs from my credit card company and my personal auto insurance showing that coverage extended to rentals in Costa Rica. Economy Car Rentals and CarRental.com has disclosures in attached docs on its website but they are complicated to understand what fees apply, the costs, and that proof of other insurance was not accepted. There is no total estimated cost for the rental shown at the time of booking.

The Economy Car Rental rep is a con artist. He said that "all the other rental companies charge high fees for insurance" if you don't pay for it at time of booking. I said that doesn't make it fair or reasonable. I am not happy with them and with Economy Car Rentals business practices. I will not rent from them again. They tricked you into paying a huge rental bill. I truly think is a rip-off company---stay away!
