"Please Read This Before You Purchase, it could save you money and hassle!"
After much research on 28 Jan 2025 I purchased a Cestrian Field Series automatic watch from WatchNation. I needed a watch which was waterproof and had good luminosity, it was an added bonus that I felt the watch looked good and I was not disappointed when it arrived, the watch really appeared to be very well designed. And from that moment it all went badly wrong, I should have read the ‘Returns’ policy before the watch arrived as I soon appeared to transgress that Policy. I removed all the packaging, including a screen protector, set the correct date and time and wore the watch, all of these actions broke the ‘rules’ of the Returns Policy, but at this point I had no inclination that I would need to return the watch.
That night, in bed, I tried to read the time on my watch but the screen was black. I wore the watch the following day and the second night again the watch hands and numerals were unreadable. With the use of WatchNation website I could see that the watch hands and numerals were coated in a material called Super-Luminova, and with the use of a search engine I found out that Super-Luminova needed to be ‘activated’, eg subjected to sunlight or by the use of a torch held close to the watch glass. Nowhere is this process mentioned, either on the WatchNation or Cestrian websites. After using a torch light for 20-30 minutes that night there was a faint glow, I could initially read the time but a few hours later, whilst answering the call of nature, the watch dials were black again.
Over the next few days we were blessed with some sunshine and the watch was left pointing towards the sun, I also used a torch to top-up the activation process, but it didn’t help, after a few hours of darkness I just could not read the time.
On or about 5th Feb I telephoned WatchNation and explained my frustration about lack of luminosity, spoke with a very helpful employee who advised me to write an email to the company and perhaps they would get me to return the watch so that they could test my watch against another similar Cestrian which I thought was a great idea, I sent my email on or about Mon 10th Feb. On the WatchNation website under the tab “Contact Us” it states “Please email us with any questions you may have and a member of our customer service will be happy to assist you. We typically reply within a few hours, but please allow up to 1 business day for a reply. Response times may be longer between Christmas and New Year”.
On Fri 14th Feb, after not receiving a response from my email despite it being over three business days, I made another phone call to WatchNation, unfortunately the previous employee didn’t answer the phone instead I had a conversation with an employee who clearly had no training in helping a customer! After a brief silence I was informed that yes, they had received my email, they were writing their response as we were talking and I would get their reply later that day, I’m still waiting for that reply and yes, I check my junk mail. During the phone call with the employee he instructed me to activate the Super-Luminova, I asked him why there was no mention of this requirement on either the WatchNation or Cestrian website to which he replied “it’s common sense” and “everyone knows you have to do this”. I informed him that after spending over 60 years alive on this planet I didn’t know you had to do this! He then went onto inform me that the Super-Luminova only stays bright for 4 – 6 hours, again I asked why wasn’t this stated on either website, again I got the reply “everyone knows this”. We then had a very brief conversation where it was confirmed that I could not return my watch as I had altered the mechanism, worn the watch outdoors and it was no longer in a ‘new’ condition and they would be unable to resell the watch.
I know WatchNation are in breach of The Consumer Rights Act 2015, the UK law that protects consumers like me from poor quality goods and services, unfair business practices, and unfair contract terms. Having read the responses to previous complaints I do not have any confidence that I will see my money again, I just wish that I had taken the advice written by many other unhappy customers and that I had avoided this website completely and purchased from a company with a far better customer review base. I can now only advise future potential customers who are looking for a watch, with great customer focus, to shop elsewhere.

"First purchase with WatchNation, 10/10"
Found a very nice Seiko Sports 5 1968 recreation at a substantial savings with this store. It was shipped the day I ordered it, and it arrived the next day.
Top quality, everything in order and they even adjusted the watch strap length as well.
I'm be browsing this store in the future and hopefully doing more business with them. Easily recommend.
