Americas Preferred Home Warranty

"Don't purchase this warranty"
Don't purchase this warranty! Complete scam. We had a faucet issue. Called for approval, the plumber spoke with the representative and told them the exact costs and they said the claim was approved and to send a copy of the final bill when completed. We sent and out of a $1207.11 invoice they sent $200 because they said that's all it "should" have costed. When speaking with them, they unilaterally get to decide what something should cost even if the plumber gave them his costs for the visit to find the problem and the cost of repairing and then the cost of the new "comparable" faucet. $200 really for a plumber to come out twice and the cost of a high end lav faucet. Live and learn but NEVER use them if you are smart enough to look at their reviews first. We were not! Went with a plan from a realtor!

"COMPLETE and UTTER SCAM."
Utter Crap. We had a roof leak, the adjuster told us we needed the contractor to call when he did the initial evaluation. He did . It was going to be an estimated 1100.00. We were given the go ahead and the repair estimate was 2600. Long story short it was found to be an installation issue. And yes the very fine print does say they don't cover it. Reality is despite the brochures and the information they give to the realtors they deal with. They do not cover anything. My realtor was absolutely appalled, as they had told her this type of issue was covered. Save the money and take it to Vegas. You have a better chance at being covered.
Update: Contacted them again to resolve the 1100.00 initial promise, they miss quoted the transcript ignoring the rep clearly stating he is approving the initial 1100.00. When asked for a copy of the transcript of the call I was told they don't provide them because it is against company policy. If you already have them record all conversations. Not only will they scam you they will then deny statements they have made. I had myself and my contractor on the line and both of us heard the confirmation.
COMPLETE and UTTER SCAM.

"If I could give them a negative number…"
If I could give them a negative number…
If I could give them a negative number I would. Literally the worst company I have ever had to deal with in my 60 years. Purchased a house and was worried about the appliances breaking down. My realtor suggested a home warranty just in case something happened after the sale. I was told that if an appliance broke down that it would be covered under the warranty and that I would only have to pay a small deductible should I need to use the warranty. After being in thew house for a couple of months our dishwasher broke down so I filed a claim. I was told to have a repair service come out and while they were at the house they needed to call APHW and explain what was wrong with the dishwasher. I paid the repair service $100 just to come out and diagnose what the problem was. They came out and diagnosed the problem, called APHW and told them what was wrong and what needed to be replaced to make the dishwasher run again. The bill with the trip charge was over $900 and was filed as a claim with the company. I waited and waited and heard nothing so I called into APHW. I was told that because of the age of the dishwasher, I was only going to be offered around $200 towards the bill. Not only that, but I had to have it repaired at my expense and they would send me the $200 after I provide proof that the dishwasher was repaired. This is not what I was promised. $600 was paid to APHW for a one year warranty to cover the repairs should something happen. The offer was given to me by a very rude customer service representative telling me to take it or leave it. Learn a lesson from my mistake, stay away from this company at all costs to save you a lot of frustration should your appliances break down!!

"Another disreputable company"
As in other customer reviews, I find that this company does everything possible to avoid paying claims. I was given a home warranty when I purchased a house and found within 3 months that there was a plumbing issue/failure. The company requires you call when the plumber is onsite which I did. After many holds, and the cs person speaking with the plumber, she said $75 of the $450 repair would be covered, even though the plumbing cost covered all the essentials of the repair. The cs people are paid to deny claims and/or find a way to pay as little as possible. I prefer to pay for the repair myself and consider this home warranty useless. This is a scam company, people; now I await their reply with platitudes and false justifications.

"Failed to cover a cheap but critical part of the homes well being"
My water pipes started to all of a sudden begin to bang when shutting off a faucet in the home. Plumber came and did a pressure check. The main pressure valve at the water line input to the home failed and I watched as they tried to adjust it down but to no avail. The valve was not allowing any adjustment meaning the entire house was over pressurized and we are lucky to not have burst any pipes or fittings. I called, told it was covered. part and cost was $178. I was told to hold on for a minute to get it approved. 10 minutes later, i am told sorry, it is not approved. no valves are approved. Well it was my one and only claim for the contract year, the valve is a super important part of the homes plumbing and can cause way more damage BUT APHW does not think so. I called after the fact to ask them to verify even the MAIN PRESSURE VALVE for the entire house was excluded. I was told i will get a call back, no one called. Well, I am up for renewal and will not be renewing. I am afraid to find out what else they will not cover if i actually need something done in the future

"There is a reason why customers pay for insurance... coverage."
This company can be improved by actually covering appliance issues. We purchased a new home; within a couple of months the most important things went out, our fridge and the AC unit. No fridge or AC during the summer with a young teen, preteen and an infant. Obviously, we were not living in the home long enough for the issues to be our fault. When I inquired about actually speaking with someone that should have been able to help with alternative options, I was sent a cancellation letter with no one to speak with as opposed to a representative attempting to work on fixing the issue. I should have done more research on this company. A waste of money, will not be renewing =)
Also, these reviews are deplorable.

"Refrigerator stopped working"
Refrigerator stopped working. It won't cool and leaking water. Nevertheless, I filed a claim. First they denied the claim, then they gave us 675.00 to replace the refrigerator, and 125.00 for the service call. The refrigerator is a large Vikings refrigerator and was expensive too purchase. However, we are willing to settle for a $2,800.00. We requested that they give us a least 1/2 the purchase. We've been with this SCAM of a company for two and a half years. They need professional and knowledgeable customer service reps to issue a decision on a claim.
Update: They responded to this post and THEY LIED! We are still receiving the same $800.00-$125.00 we paid the service guy. They refuse to give us our money until we buy a new refrigerator. RUN LIKE HELL FROM THIS COMPANY, WHO PROFESS TO BE CHRISTIANS!

"Total waste of time and cost me money"
Total waste of time and cost me money. I submitted a claim explaining that the home inspector when we bought our house told us the water main shutoff valve was not working, and the shut off valves for the washer/dryer should also be replaced. They let me submit a claim and asked for a copy of the home inspection. Nearly two weeks went by before I could get a plumber out. I had to have the plumber talk to the company which took about 30 minutes (at $125 an hour). Then I was on hold for about 25 minutes while they reviewed my home inspection that they already had for two weeks so they could deny my claim. I wish they would just be more up front about what's covered. Since the inspector stat d the valves were bad it was not covered. Would have saved me $75 bucks and about an hour or my time.
Edited to respond to AHPW. When I submitted the claim I mentioned the shut off valve did not work (it was not dripping) and the inspector called it out. I don't understand why they let me.submit a claim and hire a plumber when I mentioned it was not working when I bought the house. Not very transparent if you ask me. Luckily I can afford to have the plumber to the work or I would have been out $200 for a service call.
My main complaint is that your company let me submit a claim for shut off valves that didn't work when I bought the house. Then, wasted 30 minutes of the plumbers time, which I had to pay for. THEN my inspection was reviewed and my claim denied. I should have been told up from that if the shut off never worked it would nott be covered.

"Terrible service"
Today is 7/21. I have paid every month for over 2 years for this warranty. The first claim I filed was this month. The repairs cost me more than 2X the approved reimbursement. I provided the paid invoice. It has been 2 weeks today. Just called to check on status. Agent said they left a vm for me on 7/14 - no voicemail from APHW. She said they needed to confirm that the work was completed. It was completed on the day of the call with the contractor - 7/7, which I had already told them that day. She asked me to send invoices - sent 7/10, which she confirmed because they had not yet processed the email. Was just told that it will be another 14-21 BUSINESS days, meaning ANOTHER MONTH before reimbursement is received. On a repair that cost me $2,500, I am now having to beg for the $1,100 reimbursement. This is ridiculous!
