"Oh dear"

Oh dear! I ordered a Peugeot Pepper mill for my husband for Christmas. On opening it he realised that it is missing a washer and so will not work properly. I sent an email on 30th December with my order no, which I then chased with a call a few days later. The young woman on the phone was a little curt and told me that they had a backlog of email to answer and that I was the 10th in line and would have to wait. I was a little surprised by this as I would at the very least expected some kind of apology.
I then received an email on 6th January from Lucy asking whether the machine works or doesn't work at all. I replied the same day to say that it wouldn't work properly as it is missing a component.
I haven't heard back, it's now the 9th and they aren't picking up calls. I am within my statutory rights to have a replacement or refund. I had said on the phone we would accept a missing washer & now wonder why I was so obliging!!
