"What an amazing company."

What an amazing company.
I was very concerned about travelling solo for the first time since my husband passed away.
I couldn't have found a better travel company to travel with.
Once in delhi we were all met by VP. He was our guide for the whole time.
Every time we were passing anything, vp would point it out to us. So well organised, hotels were ready to greet the coach at each one. So much food even if like me I couldn't eat warm /hot spices since I had covid. Therefore I would advise you to make a request prior to travelling to DJ'S
So much history which VP was unbelievably knowledgeable on at every place we went to.
2 internal flights and a 6.5 hour rail journey inc in the trip and price.
Absolutely not a care in the world everything ran smoothly. My lifetime ambition was to try to see a tiger, we were blessed to see not 1 but 3!!!
The temples were all bonuses to me. Omg how unbelievable was the craftsmanship of the carving in all of the temples. The taj was absolutely breathtaking, the Golden temple wow wow wow, the lotus temple, Gandhi's finally resting place. How peaceful it was in these places. Don't doubt it, if I can go you certainly can.
I am missing the group, the sun, the local people are friendly, abit annoying at some times, but no harm at all.
I am now thinking of doing the south Indian tour or Sri Lanka with Distant Journeys

"Fabulous Holiday "

Right from the moment we touched down at Delhi airport we were met by Distant Journey's staff. Our guide PV was with us for the whole trip and we couldn't have been better looked after. We were able to enjoy the whole experience of India in luxury - Hotels and trips were unforgettable. There were some very early morning starts but this just added to the excitement! The highlights of our Journeys were seeing 3 Tigers at Ranthambore (one is very unusual!) And the Taj Mahal in all its glory. A truly amazing trip with amazing company - holiday of a lifetime

"Unforgettable India - a land of beauty and pain"

I have just returned from the “Golden Triangle - Temples and Tigers” guided tour arranged by Distant Journeys for solo travellers. I wish that I could share the glowing comments and gorgeous photographs on our WhatsApp group, but this review will have to do!

What an intense, scintillating, explosive challenge to all our senses this fortnight proved to be. Not only were we treated in Delhi, Amritsar, Agra and Jaipur to the aesthetic harmony of the most famous and elegant architectural wonders, spanning many dynasties, religions and centuries, but we were invited into the heart of Indian daily life, experiencing for ourselves the assault on our senses of noise, heat, golden sunlight, odours both noxious and appealing, the maelstrom of traffic, people, cows, monkeys, goats, market traders in the back streets, viewed from the relative safety of rickshaws and tuktuks. If only I could have bottled all this to bring it out again to brighten an English winter’s day!

I wish I had the space to describe everything to you, the contrasts in Indian life, today and throughout time, but let Amritsar represent everywhere else: the solemn and moving Sikh Holy Book ceremony in the beautiful Golden Temple; the massive, hot, hive-like kitchens within the temple complex where 600 volunteers cook 20,000 meals a day for the poorest people; the tranquil gardens which mark the site of the Amritsar massacre ordered by General Dyer in the early 20th century; the Partition Museum which provided a detailed record of the journey towards Partition in 1947 and its deadly aftermath; finally, the modern, up-to-date ceremony, still rooted, nearly 80 years later, in the Partition debacle, at the border with Pakistan, where, in an arena reminiscent of a Rugby match or a rock concert in the UK, we witnessed border guards on both sides of the barrier in a mirror-image display of mock (?) aggression and posturing, with the crowd being whipped up by an MC soldier, throughly enjoying the power game - but, oh, the overwhelming emotion I felt when the gates opened and the opposing forces embraced! All of human life in one day: spiritual devotion, generosity and charity; the unforgivable murder of at least a thousand peaceful protesters by the British army; ill-judged political decisions by the British government that led to religious conflict, mass migration and starvation, and the heartwarming forgiveness of the Indian people we met who were so welcoming and warm - including the 10 year old boy with his family who came over to talk to us and said: “If you are ever in Bangalore, come and visit us”!

Distant Journeys built this edifice of experience for us, but it was our guide, Vaibhav Pratap Singh, known to us as VP, who provided the key to unlock the door and give us access to the myriad wonders of India. The qualities that you would want to find in a guide to an unfamiliar country would be an educated knowledge of Indian history, culture, politics, and social mores, with the English language skill to fully engage his listeners; he would have to be calm and unruffled to deal with unexpected incidents, like mislaid passports; a pleasant manner and a sense of humour would influence the mood of the whole group; he would ideally be wholly professional at all times and maybe a little detached. VP had all these qualities, and much more, fulfilling his role with excellence for 12 days, and giving us an unforgettable and enriching experience of India. If you ever read this - thank you, VP…

I should stop now, except to say - we saw tigers, three or four of them, in the nature reserve at Ranthambore; the hotels were superb, and no one in our group had upset stomachs or many mosquito bites - I had just one bite and European mosquitoes generally love me!

So if you are considering India for your next holiday, my advice is - just do it - and Distant Journeys and VP will take good care of you.
