"Awful University........"

The only word I can use to describe this university (and I use the term 'university' loosely) is appalling! I don't normally write reviews, but I am so disgusted that I think people ought to be warned about what they're letting themselves into.

I enrolled in September 24 to do the graduate diploma in law (online), and by the end of November, I was simply shocked by the poor quality of teaching or lack of it! Please be aware that they offer students no support whatsoever. You are told that you don't need to buy the textbooks because everything is online......what a nightmare! I did buy the books, which are ok. You are left alone to access the study material, complete the reading, tutorial, and engage tasks. However, you get no personal feedback, just annoying generic automated responses, which do not address your submission.
Beware, they market this as regular feedback, but it is not personalised. You get no personal feedback from tutors, and attend a scheduled 30-minute session where they simply read through slides offering no help or assistance at all. Just insulting...... What was even more insulting was that one tutor read through the slides and left after 2 and a half minutes of the thirty-minute session! I started to wonder why I was paying over £11,0000 for this course when you don't get any support or guidance. Moreover, the tutors had no idea about assessments.

Later, I discovered that all the material for this course is set outside of the university! Just dreadful. After almost 10 weeks of this horrendous course, I decided to withdraw because it was the worst experience I have ever had in a university, being left with no support or guidance on a course as complex as law. I am very disappointed because I had such high hopes, thinking they were a reputable legal education provider, but sadly not!

You are much better off going to a real university with good standards of teaching and quality lecturers. Spend your money wisely and protect your sanity, this university is simply awful! They just want your money and don't give a thought to the student experience.

"INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS BEWARE!!"

Take these points into consideration before deciding to do the PGDL at any provider - especially ULAW!

1. Exam conditions: Unlike domestic students, international students are required to sit exams on campus (home office rules). This means you bring in your laptop and do the exams with x amount of people in a classroom. The exams are open book but the university only allows you to have one laptop when you are sitting the exams. No such restrictions are placed on domestic students. Also, the in-person exams for international students are invigilated even though the exams are open book. I only found out about the laptop policy after chasing down the assessment team and speaking to one of my module conveners TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE EXAMS! TALK ABOUT A CURVE BALL! The formal announcement is to be made A WEEK before exams!!! It really feels unfair considering we are assessed to the same standards as domestic students yet are completing the exams under completely different conditions.

2. Re-sits: The university will not sponsor your visa extension in the event that you have to re-sit exam(s). This means you will have to return to your home country or your country of residence to re-sit the exams. This also means you will not be able to apply for a post-study visa as you have (1) not successfully completed your course (2) not in the country. The only way you can return is if you can obtain a Skilled Worker Visa from a licensed employer in the UK.

3. If you have a disability: ULAW's disability support is not the best. They take ages to respond and are not very reliable. I found my personal tutor really unhelpful as well. I was going through a really rough time (family/ personal matters) during my mocks and was unable to perform to the best of my abilities. I had disability provisions in place but this was not made aware to my examiners/ tutors. I saw my personal tutor to go over my mock results and I was advised to drop out or do part-time. This was not exactly the best advice as I was already feeling really low and unconfident with the course. Worse still, my personal tutor made me feel as though I had made up my disability. I felt the eye roll in their tone when they asked 'right, what disability?'. It was only after I fully spelled out my situation that they seemed more understanding. Of course, by that point, the damage was done.

I strongly advise you to have a think about the above points before you decide to jump on the PGDL.

"Evil"

They took 5 months to respond to my appeal and are refusing to refund my one instalment. I appealled on medical grounds and provided my surgery documents and diagnosis. they think I wasn't ill enough in a timely manner which is not true, they ignored my previous emails asking to be withdrawn. They have breached policy multiple times throughout the process. ULaw made me submit my appeal 3 times because they are too incompetent to correctly read the course date on appeal forms, and they conveniently left out the second review stage forms every time. Not only are they refusing to refund my instalment but they are telling me they want me to pay the entire course which comes to over 4k!!! I am now speaking to a solicitor who is flabbergasted at the case. Horrible admin, dishonest, cruel, greedy. I want them to see this review and know that I am taking this seriously BTW I used to be a 2023 alumni and this is what they are doing to me. Their credibility has been significantly damaged by their unfair conduct.

"Terrible!"

Terrible!
I’m not surprised to see read all these poor reviews.
They have an all singing and dancing website, luring you in via a huge selection of law courses which seem brilliant, and many of which no other uni offers in the UK.
However, they don’t respond to emails, calls etc, so the communication problem put me off from ever studying with them.
Their telephone dial tone is not UK, so you are attempting to get through to someone overseas.
I wanted to apply for many scholarships, yet couldn’t as there was a Tech glitch with their website so it wouldn’t allow me to apply for them. They promised to sort it and never did, much to my frustration and after several attempts of me chasing them.
When I did get a call back once about a course, the man was patronising, obnoxious and rude!
I’m still waiting to another call back, it’s been three months now, so I’m not holding my breath yet again.
Please remember, it’s a commercial enterprise and they do not give two hoots about their students. It’s also very expensive.
As a disabled person, I requested extra time for something I was applying for and it was denied, with an admin person stating “you can’t have extra time, as everyone has to have the same opportunity”… yet they in saying this they denied me my rights under the Equality Act as a disabled person.
I was offered a place on a course, which I withdraw my application and also withdrew a second application due to the awful way I was treated as a disabled person.
I am so glad I stayed with my existing university, they actually care about their students, rather than treating them like customers of a business with no empathy.
This is an honest, authentic review from someone who was very interested in studying a couple of courses with them.

"Do not use this university"

Do not use this university.

Your emails will be left unanswered despite matters being urgent. Teams within the establishment do not contact or communicate with each other.

This is simply a money grabbing attempt to bring in the cash, and they do not care about their current or previous students.

I cancelled my LPC due to personal reasons, and was told that no funds would be owed as I cancelled within the required timeframe. A year and a half later, I am being hounded and harassed for “outstanding fees”, whereby I apparently owe the first term’s fee.

Upon multiple attempts to resolve this with their finance team, I have learned that they do not communicate with one another, do not read emails, and simply do not care.

"Avoid at all costs"

Similarly to the review below, I wish I could rate this uni 0 stars.

I chose to withdraw from the university after a honestly horrendous couple of months on the MSc Psychology course which was verified by the BPS withdrawing their accreditation. I withdrew on the basis that the standard of education sold to me is not what I was in receipt of, clearly. In addition to late and unfair marking, the live lectures just consist of being shoved into breakout rooms. When you reach out to lecturers for help, you’re met with condescending and completely unhelpful responses.

After a patronising exchange with the psychology team regarding my concerns, I was told that I was not eligible for a full fee refund despite my consumer rights and the terms of contract being breached. The student finance team got involved and I was reassured that I in fact was eligible for a full refund! One member of staff said that they had confirmation in writing and I just needed to formally withdraw in order to be refunded. Well, I withdrew, and a few days later was told that I am actually only eligible to recieve less than a third of what I’ve paid. The university don’t care that a member of THEIR staff has jeopardised my future by incorrectly informing me and have failed to come to a resolution. I have complained via the uni and the OIA. Please do not waste your time and money with this awful place. They don’t care about their students they just want your money.

"I wish I could select 0 stars"

I wish I could select 0 stars.

DO NOT GO TO THIS UNIVERSITY. The psychology course has recently lost its BPS accreditation, which will be no surprise to any current or recent psychology student.

The administration side of the uni is abysmal, you will be ignored, uninformed, and/or patronised. One of my fellow students was told it was their fault for signing up to a course in its first year of accreditation.

This course has been one of the biggest regrets of my entire life.

"I should've read the reviews before I…"

I should've read the reviews before I applied. I accepted my place then heard NOTHING! I had to chase for everything and with 1 week until my start date, I still had no timetable. Luckily I was able to cancel my place, and reading these reviews, I'm glad I did!
