Large Holiday Houses

"As another reviewer has succinctly…"
As another reviewer has succinctly said, my experience of Large Holiday Houses was incredibly poor. Rude, unhelpful and totally unprepared to talk in a grown up fashion about the possible effect of Covid 19.
The house we stayed in is not what I am reviewing. So the good reviews regarding specific houses are not relevant to the service being offered. I would imagine Trust Pilot will be looking into this.

"Beach Cottage, Dalbeg, Lewis"
A truly beautiful location, house and experience. Our hosts couldn't have been more welcoming. A lovely welcome pack, everything incredibly well organised (fresh baked bread when we needed it), plenty of advice on where to go and what to see, and the accommodation was first class, with exceptional views of the sea and cliffs. Can't recommend it highly enough.

"Exquisite Cottage"
Stayed in the beautiful location of Kilmuir right on the Moray Firth. The cottage exceeded our expectations. The owners David and Penny who lived next door were absolutely wonderful who obviously had paid attention to detail when creating this wonderful cottage. Unfortunately, saw no dolphins, but seeing red squirrels, roe deer and their young as well as a Weasel compensated for it.
We were a little concerned given that Covid rules were changing frequently both in England and Scotland whether we would make it. I feel for those of you who have not had a good experience with LHH but I cannot fault them as my booking went smoothly and had no hiccups because of the pandemic.
I certainly would recommend LHH and the cottage we stayed in and would use LHH in the future.

"A brilliant week on the Isle of Lewis…"
A brilliant week on the Isle of Lewis organised through LHH - we had a beautiful house and the whole process was well managed.

"We had a brilliant week in this really…"
We had a brilliant week in this really lovely house. It is immaculately clean and all the fittings and furniture are of a very high spec. Shower/bathrooms are lovely and the underfloor heating is so cosy. The house is situated on its own at the foot of Loch Erisort with beautiful views from every window. It is ideally situated to explore the whole of Lewis and Harris and only 30 minutes drive from Stornoway. We didn't want to come home!

"A Totally outstanding Holiday Home"
A Totally outstanding Holiday let. The house was immaculate and thoroughly clean, with every item you need for a holiday and more. The views out of the front of the house were breath taking and for me, very emotional as I have never seen such beautiful surroundings.
The speedboat trip with Chris was well worth doing and exploring the views and other islands was the topping on the cake.
David and Freida were great hosts welcoming us with fresh bread, scotch pancakes, butter and jam was a lovely touch which made the holiday even more special (if that could be at all possible)
I can’t recommend this Holiday Home enough
Thank you for such a fantastic holiday and for making it extra special

"Worst Customer Experience I've Ever Had"
While LHH has stunning properties in their portfolio, I was surprised and disappointed to find out that their customer service has nothing to do with what was promised on their website.
In August 2019, I had booked a property on the Isle of Lewis for a holiday in August 2020. As it looked like it would be increasingly unlikely that we would actually be able to travel to the Western Isles due to SARS-CoV-2, I contacted LHH in early June about our options. I was upfront about the fact that while I had travel insurance, pandemic events were not covered by my insurer's policy. It is not possible to insure against pandemic events in Germany, as German law is quite clear about the vendor needing to refund if they cannot fulfill their part of the contract due to a change in legislation like e.g. a lockdown or travel ban. I suggested to move my booking to a mirror week in 2021, so that there would be no need to refund the deposit. I would even have been willing to pay the full balance now for a holiday in 2021. One would think this a reasonable compromise in challenging times for vendors and customers alike. LHH flat out refused my request and advised me that they would not refund and that I should make a claim on my insurance.
I was disappointed that LHH was so unhelpful, but let it rest for a while to see how the SARS-CoV-2 situation would develop. At the end of June, LHH very suddenly demanded the balance for our booking to be paid. At this time there where still travel restrictions for EU citizens travelling to the UK in place and we would not be able to travel if those were not lifted. As an announcement for the so called 'travel bridges' was expected soon, I contacted LHH again, pointed out the travel restrictions and asked for the balance deadline to be extended for another week to see if the restrictions would be lifted. LHH denied that there were any restrictions still in place and falsly claimed that the property was avalaible to us - even if there was no legal way we could travel to Lewis at that time. They claimed that the legislation of the UK government concerning travel from abroad were just our 'personal circumstances'. An astonishing stance on foreign customers for a company dealing in tourism and reason enough to strongly advise EU citizens against becoming a customer of LHH.
LHH put immense pressure on me to either pay the balance immediately or the booking would be cancelled and the substantial deposit would be lost. In addition they suggested for a second time that I should make what would amount to a fraudulent claim on my insurance, which they suggested to assist me with.
In anticipation of an air bridge annoucement I caved to the pressure and paid the balance - only to learn that Scotland would not partake in the scheme announced by Westminster and restrictions for travel to Scotland from abroad would not be lifted for the time being. As a result there was a a time period when we had to fear that we had lost the full amount of money we had paid to LHH and we had to explore legal options to recover our funds from outside the UK.
In stark contrast to LHH, I had another booking with a different company, that was very helpful and had made it clear from the beginning of the pandemic that they would refund the full balance if we couldn't travel due to SARS-CoV-2. I will happily use that company for my next holiday in Scotland.
We were luckier than most in that we actually got to have a holiday. But LHH has caused me so much stress and anxiety that I will never do business with them again. I recommend to think long and hard before you trust LHH with your money and your holiday.
I regret that I had to explain to the very lovely owner of the property that we sadly would not return as long as LHH is exclusively handling their bookings. It is a shame that reputation and business of owners working with LHH will suffer as a result of LHH's appalling behavoiur towards their customers.

"Credit card charge back successful!!"
We are yet another customer of LHH who is totally unsatisfied with our experience with them.
We were due to spend a week in a cottage on the Isle of Harris in May 2020 and were unable to travel due to Government lock down restrictions. We contacted LHH to request to change the date of our holiday to next year. This request was refused and we were advised by them to make a claim on our travel insurance.
The claim was declined, we then referred back to LHH who were totally unsympathetic to our situation. During the whole process the only way we could communicate with them was by email as no telephone calls were answered.
We were advised by our insurers to make a charge back claim on our credit card.
We are pleased to say this course of action has been successful and recommend others to go down the same route - 6 months after this process started.
We will NEVER use this company again or recommend them and cannot believe how oblivious they seem to the damage they are causing to their own business and that of the Scottish tourist industry in general by their actions.

"A simply sensational stay at The Sheep…"
A simply sensational stay at The Sheep Station on Harris at the beginning of September. The property is finished to the highest spec; the views are breathtaking and there is no expense or comfort spared (the welcome bottle of Bollinger in the fridge was most welcome!). Karen - the housekeeper - couldn't have been more helpful. Have already recommended to a number of friends and the booking and communication with LHH has been exemplary - even during these testing times. High fives to Harris all round. I would give this 7 stars if I could.
