"AVOID THESE PEOPLE"

AVOID THESE PEOPLE. Ordered tyres through their website. Chose an approved fitting centre close to my address. Went at the correct time and day. The ‘approved’ fitting centre was a dodgy looking lock up with no signage. I was approached by two young guys asking what I wanted. I explained I was there from RAC to have two tyres fitted. Both seemed unaware I had an appointment. After a few minutes they eventually found my two tyres and proceeded to fit them. First tyre went on fine. However the second wheel mysteriously developed a crack in the alloy after the old tyre was removed. Previous to that moment my wheels had shown no signs of being damaged. Another guy miraculously appeared and told me her could get it repaired for £50, but not until the following day (Tuesday). Not having any other option I agreed. A temporary wheel was fitted and I left. On the morning I was to have the second wheel replaced I phoned to confirm it would be ready. I was assured it would be at 16:30. I arrived at the lock up at that time, only to be told the wheel wasn’t back from the repair and that the garage was now closed. I waited another hour to speak to someone who claimed to be ‘the boss’. He half apologised and said to come back the next morning (Wednesday). I returned again Wednesday morning. The repaired wheel appeared and was fitted with my new tyre. I went to pay the £50 for the repair but was told I owed £169 for the tyres £20 for each tyre fitted as well as £50 for the repair. I explained that obviously I’d paid for all but the repair via the RAC. I was met with a barrage of abuse saying I was lying and trying to con them as he knew nothing about a payment from the RAC. He then instructed one of his employees to block me in using another vehicle. I immediately got on the phone to the RAC tyres. Eventually got through to an operator and told them what was happening. After a heated conversation between the operator and ‘the boss’ I was eventually allowed to leave. The operator stayed on the phone with me as she could hear I was quite shaken. Full of apologies she told me the the incident would be investigated as it was totally unacceptable that I was treated that way. I have today been sent an email telling me that nothing more was going to be done and that they simply offered me an apology.
As a foot note. Later in the day the tyres were fitted, I had the wheels checked at another tyre centre only to find out neither wheel had been balanced and that the pressures were 55psi on one side and 25psi on the other, the correct pressure should be 38psi.
Trading standards, financial ombudsman and BBC watchdog are all being contacted too.
The whole experience has been appalling and no one at RAC gives a toss.
