Overall I would rate our experience as first time loan applicants with Rocket Mortgage as a 3/5.
As two people who had never applied for any kind of mortgage loan we had no clue what we were doing. Having an outline or guide line for what to expect would have been appreciated and helpful. When reaching out for support we were routed to the app to text chat with a care specialist. I will say the people answering the chats are 100% more friendly and supportive than the people I encountered on the phone. The whole experience felt belittling and unsupportive for newbies. Glad it’s over.

“I found this company to be very unreliable. I submitted all the documentation they requested, and everything was in order from my end, yet I still did not receive the quality of work I expected. They were unwilling to complete the closing unless I provided additional cash. They even suggested that I use funds from my previous escrow account, which I was trying to refinance. This experience has been frustrating, and I would not recommend their services.”

(1) From start to finish, our Rocket contact, Brianna Reid, was an absolute delight to work with. She exhibited great patience guiding us through the initial set up of our account (a combination of computer problems and lack of know-how on our end)—then continued to provide answers and assistance along the way. Always pleasant, always professional. She's a real difference maker. (2) Automated requests and responses during processing were sometimes helpful, and sometimes confusing. For example, twice I received email/text notifications that my todos were complete then incomplete—within minutes of each other. On one of the occasions two or three days were lost because I was under the impression I had nothing more to do. (3) Closing required a second meeting with the notary (also pleasant, patient and professional) because it wasn't clear that advanced e-signing was required. Again, thanks to computer problems, we had to reschedule to include hard copies of all documents for signatures. Wouldn't it make more sense to execute ALL docs either online or in person? (4) We were (and continue to be) deluged with unsolicited mortgage broker calls that erupted shortly after we completed our Rocket application. Assuming they're the result of the credit reporting agency selling our names and contact information—I would hope action could be taken to protect the confidentiality of applicants. (5) Bottom line, thanks to Brianna—and all other human contacts along the way—the process was relatively quick and painfree. Thank you Rocket Mortgage.
