"Train travel back in time"

It is a quaint travel back in time experience. The sleeper compartments are probably the oldest material on the "Good Night Train".
Staff on board are doing a good job. However all toilets in a wagon being out of service is not acceptable.
European Sleeper really need to upgrade their trains, but the night train is an experience to try.

"Worst traveling experience by train in Europe"

Our journey turned into a nightmare, and we never even made it to the final destination. They were reluctant to refund the ticket cost, and they completely refused to compensate us for the additional expenses that arose from the changes in the train schedule.

We booked our journey from Prague to Antwerp via Berlin a couple of months in advance. Just 4.5 hours before our departure from Prague, we received an email stating that the train was canceled for part of its journey - from Prague to Berlin - and that we would need to find our own way to Berlin where we can get on it and continue to Antwerp. Since we were traveling with bikes, our options were very limited, but we managed to book a FlixBus at the last minute.

While on our way to Berlin, the bus was delayed due to border passport control and traffic conditions. Once we arrived, we took the metro from the bus station to the train station and called customer care four times to request that the train wait for us. However, all their responses were vague and unhelpful. In the end, we arrived at the station 12 minutes late, only to find that the train had departed three minutes before we got there. This was totally absurd, considering the train was already canceled for 400 km of our journey, yet they couldn’t wait 12 minutes for us.

We called customer care again to ask for a solution, and they offered to pay for tickets on an ICE train departing in two hours. However, when we tried to buy the tickets, we discovered the train was fully booked for bikes (something they didn’t bother checking for us). We then checked all other trains from Berlin to Antwerp, but they were also fully booked for passengers with bikes for the next 20 hours. When we called again, they had no alternative solution to offer. By this time, it was already midnight.

We had no choice but to book a hotel in Berlin. Eventually, we decided to change our plans and take a different bike journey, as we would have been too late for all the accommodations we had booked in advance in Belgium.

After returning home, we contacted them to request reimbursement for the additional costs we incurred (FlixBus tickets, the hotel in Berlin, cancellation fees for accommodations in Belgium, and our return journey from Belgium). They only refunded the cost of their own train tickets, and even that took a month to process.

There is no chance we will travel with this company again, as their behavior was completely unprofessional. We understand that delays or cancellations can happen, but every other company we’ve traveled with has tried their best to resolve such situations. This company did absolutely nothing to help us.

"Beide Male furchtbar, aber die Idee vom Nachtzug find ich nach wie vor super."

Ich bin jetzt zum 2. Mal mit dem European Sleeper gefahren.
Beim ersten Mal ist die Heizung ausgefallen und wir haben 8 Stunden wahnsinnig gefroren.
Ganz, ganz viele E-Mails später habe ich eine Erstattung über 3,80€! erhalten.

Dann habe ich dem ganzen, weil ich grundsätzlich die Idee vom Nachtzug super finde, noch eine Chance gegeben.
Diesmal ist der Zug einfach nicht nach Amsterdam sondern nur nach Utrecht gefahren.
Also habe ich ein Ticket für 8,80 gelöst um eine Stunde zu spät nach Amsterdam zu kommen.
Und versuche jetzt seit 3 Monaten die 8,80 erstattet zu bekommen.
Es ist ein Ding der Unmöglichkeit.
Ich gebe jetzt auf.


Edit:
Weniger als 24 Stunden nachdem ich die Bewertung geschrieben habe, habe ich 8,23 erhalten.
Um die restlichen 57 Cent bemüh ich mich jetzt nicht mehr.

Im Vorfeld wurden die 8,23 auf ein nicht existierendes Paypal-Konto überwiesen, mit dem Hinweis, dass sie meine Frustration verstehen und ich mich selbst darum kümmern muss, das Geld zu erhalten.

Jetzt habe ich zumindest 8,23 erhalten.
Aber keine Entschädigung für den ganzen Aufwand und die Unannehmlichkeiten.
Und werde definitv in Zukunft nicht mehr mit dem European Sleeper fahren.

Der Kundenservice ist unglaublich ausbaufähig.

Pro-Tip:
Im Falle des Falles, spart Euch die ganz ganz vielen E-Mails und schreibt einfach eine Bewertung.

Alles in allem schade, denn die Idee vom Nachtzug find ich immer noch toll.

"Fun trip (Brussels-Prague)"

Staff was incredibly friendly! My first sleeper train experience, and it was an enjoyable one for the most part.

The main disappointment: Some of the bathrooms were non-functional during the journey.

"Very nice experience"

Great that this company is making sleeper trains available again in the Netherlands. We went to Prague and back and the experience was amazing. Beautiful scenery, nice fellow travellers and arrival on time. What could be improved (if ES gets more money): modern carriages (although these still were functional) and a dining car on each train.

"Sleeper train experience with my family"

It was a great ride with my family. At first was skeptical of whether or not I was able to sleep on board. But I was able to sleep for few hours on the bunk bed in the compartment.

"We selected the sleeper for 3"

We booked the sleeper cabin.
It was so cramped up and there was hardly any space to keep 3 trolleys inside the cabin. Bed was neat and spacious.

"I found the boarding process nice and…"

I found the boarding process nice and simple. Staff were helpful and generally friendly. The pre booked hotel breakfast was ok. It wasn't that great so a bit expensive but I really valued the time in the bar carriage to watch the scenery.
