"Scam - endless extra charges"
The Beryl app frequently breaks meaning that after pressing end ride you have to wait sometimes up to 5minutes to get an invoice for the ride (adding time onto the bill) and if you close your phone whilst waiting for the ride to formally end, it may not ever actually end and you will end up with a non-refundable charge of the £30. Also, the bays are frequently listed as full on the app despite being empty meaning that if you are in a rush to get somewhere (work, an appointment etc) you are forced to pay the extra £10 because the bay is arbitrarily listed as full. Scooters are also slow and dangerously jerky when riding. I used them daily to commute to work but over two months have accrued over £150 in add on charges. It is impossible to avoid them every time, sometimes it just doesn’t work out.

"Ana is a great customer service agent"
The app charged me £10 for parking outside of a bay when in reality I did park in the bay - I contacted customer support and Ana was the agent who responded - she was very helpful and helped me to get the £10 back within 15 minutes of the event happening

"I've had an ok-ish experience with…"
I've had an ok-ish experience with using their bikes and scooters these past few months although very expensive, £5 for 100 minutes plus unlock fee, but won't be using them again as they have recently hiked their prices to extortionate levels! Sure there's no unlock fee now but £16 for 100 minutes?? No thanks! Will be going back to using my car fulltime.

"Here again after leaving a negative…"
Here again after leaving a negative review in August.
Since that time, I've given Beryl another chance and it has paid off. They have a lot of new e-bikes and out of the tens of times that I've used them, I've probably had 2, maybe 3 issues with unlocking and locking the bikes- which is a far-cry from the roughly 6/10 times that I experienced at the time of my last review in August. That being said- I wouldn't rely on them for getting to places on time, some bikes may not be for hire (uncommon) or it may not unlock (uncommon), so leave enough time to get to where you need to be in another way.
The instant messaging helpline is still very good- they are quick to respond and helpful.
They have also increased the amount of docking spaces they have by a lot (Plymouth)- making it easier to ride from and to places without having to walk too far.
Thank you for improving Beryl- I said in my last review that this is a very good idea and 'if only it were managed by a competent company' so I am glad to see this much improvement, keep it up.

"Another journey"
Another journey, 10 mile round trip. Electric bike out and return on a scooter. Both times, I couldn't hire the first vehicle I tried and only succeeded on the second vehicle I tried to hire. I had a good journey on the bike. However, the scooter had a stand which wouldn't stay up and dragged on the ground. There was no other scooter to choose from so it was a choice of this or a very long walk. It got me where I needed to go but wasn't an enjoyable experience. I have reported the fault to Beryl.

"Absolute scam company"
Absolute scam company, they rely wholly on charging people extra costs for not docking bikes, or false damage/missing bikes. If your bike runs out of charge you are not eligible for a refund, and if you don't take it to a docking station you will incurred more fines. The bike weighs an absolute tonne so riding the thing without assist is a miserable experience, and dangerous. Bit beryl don't care, it's obviously your fault if there's no charge. It would be simple to having a power light on the bike..but this would make it less easy for beryl to charge you. All in all beryl are in in for the money they care very little for people or the environment and the sooner local governments realize this and ban them the better.

"Great potential but total let down"
I really like the service and use them often. But recently in Manchester lots.of the bays have been closed..in fact almost a mile radius around where I live. There are some bays overflowing with bikes (like 24) but none near me. Also no bays open to actually park one. I recently spend nearly an hour trying to find a space to park a bike. It got dark Nd was raining and I was in the depths of Trafford. It could work amazing but unfortunately I feel let down from where I life in whalley range Manchester

"Great customer service"
As a first time user I made the mistake of not locking the bike correctly so was charged £10, later I parked the bike outside a shop but was charged for not parking in a designated place, although it was only parked for a few minutes before I continued my journey. Both incidents where dealt with quickly and efficiently by phone, there was no wait time either so top marks to the guy who answered. Things do go wrong but when they are dealt with like this I think it's only fair to say thank you.

"Suspended Docking Station Scam!!"
Manchester- I went to park my bike to my usual parking station. When I got home they had charged me the fee of not parking on a beryl parking station when I did.
I messaged customer service and they said the parking station was suspended and that apparently there was a sign and it was not available on the app.
No one checks the app. If you see a docking station you will use it.
The sign that you couldn’t park there was a tiny 4x4cm sign. Not coloured red and right where you push your bike in. It was nowhere near obvious that the station was suspended and I was able to park my bike there.
It feels like a catch to trap people into paying the fee! A scam! If you don’t want people parking there then you NEED to make it obvious. Put some red tape around or lock each spot so that it is physically impossible to park.

"It's a wonderful idea in principle"
It's a wonderful idea in principle, but Beryl bikes really do need to up their game.
Today I decided to try Beryl bikes for the first time. I had no problem with the app, so that was good. However, the first bike I tried, wouldn't unlock. Neither would the second. The third unlocked but it wouldn't change gear, at all, the chain making a horrible noise as I rode along. After 5 minutes I gave up and took it back. I walked instead.
Such a shame because this service is so badly needed and if run properly it could be brilliant.
Customer service, however, was excellent and I received an immediate refund.
