AVOID AVOID AVOID! Quoted us a price to buy our car not once but three times after an issue every time. All in place to go ahead tomorrow and they call and cancel this evening for no legitimate reason apart from they made an error when giving us a quote!! They could have still come and given us an accurate quote but no nothing. USELESS and UNHELPFUL company would never use again or advise to friends/family.

This morning, Manheim Inspection Services came to inspect and take away my lease car. I had no choice in the matter as they were appointed by my lease company.

I had a few paintwork repairs done at a local bodyshop after doing my research. The bodyshop has over fifty 5 star reviews (no negative) and after picking up my Volvo from them I was delighted and extremely satisfied with the work they had carried out.

After the inspector had inspected my vehicle, I was presented with a bill/estimate for £770. £100 was for the last service (my book had not been stamped, but I can provide proof with the invoice - not interested). £190 for a small dent on the B post, need to see evidence. The remaining £480 was for poor paint repair work. He must have used a x100 microscope to detect ripples in the paintwork as it certainly was not visible to the naked eye.

When I challenged the inspector, I got the usual, "I am just doing my job, don't shoot the messenger". He did agree that nothing he had picked up would affect the resale value of the car.

I have asked for photographic evidence of the 'defects' listed. I'm intrigued to see how they turn out.

I know I am now going to be in a pissing contest with my lease company because of these cowboys. I had the paintwork touched up and the quality of the job was superb. I did this in good faith. It is a shame that Manheim do not act in good faith, having read others experiences of their inspection services.

I suspect their business model is "we charge you the leasing company x to carry out inspections and we guarantee to be able to find x+ that can be charged to your client".

The lease car has 71k miles on the clock and looks like a car that has done 20K.

we bought a vw polo 39/39 surechecked auctioneer pushes 39/39 only thing on collection the transport co advised us 2nd and 3rd gear problem,when the independent sure checker came down,he works for manheim on test drive he found nothing wrong,we took him out all of SUDDEN no 2nd to 3rd just a load gears GRINDING in cock in a sock HE AGREED THERE WAS AN INTERNAL FAULT THOUGH,then surecheck say sorry its only a static test,oh but its notchy not on my test drive,these are the same as bca,aston barclay,sure check means nothing just another money spinner,well done to manheim it took 2 weeks for them to turn up and tell us your on your own,in that 2 weeks we are not allowed to touch the car,,,,,angry is mild for how i feel,manheim darlaston in the midlands very poor show guys HX63LVZ

"I do not normally leave reviews"

I do not normally leave reviews, but this my experience of dealing with Manheim. I have sold two vehicles and have found them to be punctual, professional, and extremely courteous when dealing with me. Paul inspected/appraised my vehicle yesterday and more than matched the experience when I sold them the first vehicle. There was none of the usual bluster/smoke screen tactics deployed in the used car industry. The trick is to do your own research on prices and appraise the vehicle honestly noting down all the defects you know about (all cars have them). In both my cases the appraisers pointed out I may have been overly pessimistic and reflected this in the price offered. Obviously, you are not going to get private sale prices, but given the minefield of selling privately, I was more than happy with service Manheim/Paul provided!

Was referred to Manheim from the autotrader website. Service was easy & professional from start to finish. Paul Doyle who inspected my car was fair & made me feel at ease. Purchase price was slightly lower than the online quotation but only slightly- would expect the difference to be much greater for similar companies plus the money was paid into my account instantly.
