"Trendy but lacking…"

This company has excellent marketing and a decent range of indoor plants, although I didn't see much difference (or price) in variety between these guys and a large/chain garden centre. I bought a spiral cactus and a pepperomia from here as it was the only place I had seen them being sold. The pepperomia arrived in an enormous box way to large for it, and still managed to be crushed with about 30% of its leaves snapped off/smushed. In fairness, they are a delicate plant, but I have ordered so many delicate leafed plants that have arrived in perfect condition due to suitable packaging. The roots look fine and the potting mix looked good so at least it should recover fairly quickly.
The spiralus was £48, which is pretty good for one of this size, however while there was ample packaging around the plant itself (thank god) the pot was completely exposed and by the time it had arrived at my house, there was hardly any soil remaining in the pot. It also had been sliding around in an enormous box which did have 'this side up' written on the side, but it didn't matter because the plant had fallen over inside as there was nothing securing it in place. From what was left of the soil I could see it was in a very good cactus mix, the roots looked good and had clearly been repotted recently.
If you are just looking for a cheap houseplant, to be honest the cheap ones on here you will probably see in your local supermarket or garden centre for the same price/cheaper, they are just photographed beautifully for the website. If you are looking for something that is a little harder to find that most garden centres probably wouldn't have in stock, then there is a fair chance bloombox will stock it as it looks like they adhere to insta trends, but you will just pay for a battered plant that will take weeks, maybe months to recover from transit.
You are much better off ordering from a more established online garden centre (gardening express, crocus) which may not keep up with the current trends but at least if you find what you want, it'll be a similar plant and you get a perfect plant.
Or better yet, buy from a specialist seller, who may charge a little more but are generally much more invested in providing excellent products and will provide care and species information with the plant. If you just order a plant from bloombox then you get no information, just the sticker on the nursery pot confirming what it is. The website is also very hit an miss in terms of how much information they provide on each plant too, some plants have quite detailed spec sheets included whereas others have just a brief description. This is fine as long as you can you your own research, but it just feels quite lacking in terms of service.

Basically, if you are an avid enthusiast and can only find the rare plant you have been searching for here, just be aware that the plant you are spending triple figures on may arrive pretty beaten up. If you are a complete novice and think this is a cute subscription to sign up to, save your money and choose a houseplant once a month with your weekly shopping. It'll come in it's own pot which are usually pretty nice, if it's survived the minimal care of a supermarket it'll likely survive your house, and if it doesn't then at least you only spent £6 rather than £120 on a 3 month subscription.
This company smacks of the average instagram company, quite trendy and very pretty, but quite lacking in actual substance.
