"Horrible paint"

Wish I had have read the reviews before buying this paint. First coat was some of the worst coverage I have ever seen from a tub of paint, my decorator was frustrated that I had bought Valspar and I knew exactly why when the first coat went on. Two coats later and still not full coverage. What a complete nightmare, painter left yesterday having to come back on Saturday to apply another coat. That’ll be 4 and still unsure if that’s going to be enough. AVOID this paint at all costs.

UPDATE: I have gone to B&Q with half of my tub of paint and photographs, the manager pushed back saying this was Valspar's responsibility but I was firm that my contract was with B&Q and I have been sold a product that is not fit for purpose. While there I also showed the manager this trust pilot page with dozens of recent complaints about my exact issue. They agreed that the paint was indeed flawed and refunded me my original purchase amount. I brought the valspar paint code to a local paint shop who made me up a tub in that colour in their trade paint and the first coat over the horrible 2 coats of Valspar totally covered the wall to an excellent finish.

Coverage is horrendous needed 4 coats and still patchy would never use again even if it was free. Should not be allowed to be sold have refurbished loads of properties only used as customer wanted colour and she was told by B@Q the coverage is as good as dulux what a joke. But if you want to work twice as hard and get a bad finish feel free to buy it.

"Foul-smelling paint"

Bought Valspar simplicity from B&Q Whilst I had painted with this before with no issues, I painted my spare room with the pure brilliant white paint and it left a horrible smell that would fill the other rooms if the door was left open. I was only able to eliminate the smell by painting again with Dulux.

I have read lots of articles about Valspar and it's issues with foul smelling paint and as of 2024, the issues appear to still remain. It seems that they sell bad batches of paint and it is luck of the draw whether you get a bad one.

Will definitely stick with Dulux in future.

"Avoid this paint at all costs"

I was about to buy some Dulux paint but a staff member at B&Q recommended Valspar Premium instead and foolishly I listened. I wish I had stuck with Dulux.
I bought the paint for a feature chimney breast and have paid my usual decorator to do the job. He says it is the worst paint he has ever used. He has so far applied 4 coats and it has still not covered well. We are now going to have to get some Dulux to do the job properly. What a waste of money, time and effort. Not to mention the extra journeys to buy more paint something that is not easy for me as I am disabled.

Update : Valspar reached out to me on the 7th March and I replied straight away as requested with more details about what had happened. But since then have heard nothing further. So after 2 weeks and having heard nothing more I am now even angrier about what has happened. Complain to Valspar and their appalling customer service only makes matters worse!

Never ever buy valspar paint coverage terrible and still tacky after weeks took 5 coats to cover a white wall patchy patchy what a waste of time burnt orange to white bought from b&q will never ever buy valspar again you have been warned !!!!!!¡!

Only giving this a 1 as a 0 score does not exist.

Bought tubs of pure brilliant white and magnolia and then had some colours mixed. Have only tried the white so far but it’s useless. Have painted 4 coats so far and you can still see the original light blue in loads of places. Tried a deluxe brilliant white and it completely covered the blue out in just one coat…..


Will certainly be trying to get a refund on the white - and if the colours are useless them too

Still no contact from Valspar they definitely don’t do what it says on the tin.
Only buy if you want to waist time and money on their poor quality, low spec,high cost paint. I would have given them zero stars if I could.

It's a burnt Orange and I've been painting over an existing white emulsion. It's, so far, taken 4 coats and the finish is still patchy.

The quality & coverage of this paint is absolutely shocking.

Never, ever buying Valspar again. It's not even cheap and you'll spend at least twice as long on the job.

"Purchased a 5L Valspar Premium bathroom…"

Purchased a 5L Valspar Premium bathroom paint from B&Q. Both coats initially seemed to cover the existing paint well. However, 3 days later the paint simply chips off with the slightest touch. It has not bonded at all to the walls. If any water or moisture touches the walls it leaves streaks that are impossible to remove. Waste of money having paid extra for so called premium paint and a waste of time having spent the whole day painting.
What now? Do I paint over the top with a different emulsion and hope the best? Do I paint a transparent sealer over the top? Do I try to remove the paint? Utterly shocking quality and judging by other reviews here, it’s a problem Valspar are well aware of.

"Sadly, a waste of time "

3 coats of forest green in top of 2 diluted on new plaster walls. Finished and dried. It chips and marks at really the slightest thing, chipping back to the base coat (a different brand, much tougher). I tried to brush and then wipe dusty marks off days-dried paint, this has left wipe marks everywhere that do not dry off. It looks awful. I used the trade Version as I was told it was tougher and wipe-able. I would like my time back
