"Poor 'Classic' paint and horrible customer experience"

I bought Valspar Classic in my local B&Q but unfortunately, had a ton of issues with the coverage and opacity. After two coats on a primed ceiling and walls, I could still clearly see the surface underneath. I would have likely needed two more coats to fully cover the surface which wouldn't have been normal and I wasn't willing to spend twice as much money to get more paint and do 4 coats in every room.

Spent half an hour talking to B&Q staff who were very understanding and ultimately agreed I've done everything properly but said refunds have to go through Valspar. My floors and furniture were due to be delivered in the next few days so B&Q suggested buying premium/trade paints then to finish the job and that there should be no issues in Valspar accepting the refund.

I've now been exchanging emails with Valspar for over a week and it's almost like they hope you're a moron or don't have enough evidence, by trying to catch you and blame everything else other than their shocking quality classic paint. For example, I submitted digital receipts but they wanted paper copies instead (luckily kept those), they wanted SEVERAL photos to prove the issues (again luckily took those). Then they wanted to see what primer I used, what steps have I taken to prepare the surface and many more - just to for example in one email say 'Sorry, we can't issue a refund because you used a different brand primer and we don't know if it's compatible with our paint' even if both the premium and trade paints went on absolutely fine on that same primer later on. Despite answering all of their questions, providing all of the evidence to suggest it's their paint that's at fault, they are still refusing to acknowledge this and issue a refund.

I purchased their premium and trade paints and remained their customer, fixing the issues I've come across with the Classic paint. If they accepted these faults and issued my refund, I would have gladly rated them highly because I didn't only fix my problems but they were also understanding in the faults of their cheapest product and did their best to rectify it.

However, Valspar would rather die on the high ground, blame the customer, risk a negative review and lose that customer, than offer a refund for a few quid. I'm renovating the entire house and despite Dulux being more expensive, I know they have better customer support and standards of products and will be buying with them out of principle.

"Don't be fooled into buying Valspar paint "

Bought Valspar premium kitchen and bathroom mixed colour for a feature wall. Wish I hadn't and saved the hassle . PLEASE BELIEVE THE BAD REVIEWS.
Painted the kitchen using both Valspar and Dulux. . Dulux paint was no issues and continues to do what it says on the tin ...
Went on easy , Wipe and scrub no issues
The Valspar doesn't do what it says .
( Legal action ? )
Can't wipe or get anything moist near it without streaking and leaving marks .
Coverage was terrible, very patchy and the adhesion is terrible. ( No issues with the Dulux peeling ) .
Never again will I buy this overpriced crap

After posting the review and hearing all the issues I had with their product . Valspar offered me a paint voucher... For the same premium crap paint . Valspar are
Very condescending in their responses.... They're fishing to see if the issue is real ... Then will do nothing to help but offer advice , aimed seemingly at Children and a poxy voucher as a good will gesture .
Good will ... Your paints a disgrace Valspar and should not be on shelves.

"Went on lovely - hopes dashed by poor quality …"

I've always used valspar to good effect however , I've painted my bathroom with the bathroom pain and I am also getting water streaks drying all over the bathroom- it dries and remains marked, it looks awful, gutted as I love the colour ( a royal blue).
I then moved onto my sons bedroom- gorgeous green colour - scrubbable apparently , the poppers on the duvet have managed to chip the paint, it's as robust as a wet tissue! Absolutely gutted, not cheap paint either so would expect better!

"I purchased mid Sheen in deep pacific…"

I purchased mid Sheen in deep pacific blue after doing a couple of coats the paint started to bubble and is now peeing of in full strips like skin!
This is the worst paint I have ever used and I am so disappointed and angry. I have wasted money and time and now have to spend more time and money to strip it all off and repaint. Having spoken to a painter and decorator the walls were fine to paint straight onto with the mid Sheen paint and 24 hours left between coats , therefor this should not have happened.
The time it has taken and is now going to take more to re do is so annoying let alone the cost of it all. I would give this a minus star if I could

*update* following reply from Valspar below. They asked me for email and contact no but have had no contact from them. I also contacted the rep for the area on the 21st March for advice and he just sent my email to customer services of which I have had no response!

"Would not recommend "

Got it mixed at b and q to paint my new bedroom doors and surrounds. Very watery and once dried fully it just chips off. Forever touching up. I just want my room finished. I wouldn't recommend this paint. I will now have to purchase a better quality paint. So annoying edit... valsper comment but dont actually get in touch to resolve the issue. But can request the removal of the review if you dont respond. Just a heads up

"Really disappointed by Valspar interior matt paint. "

I purchased a 5L Valspar Pure Brilliant White (interior matt - Simplicity Range) to paint a small bedroom.

The exisiting colour was yellow (not dark yellow) and it took four coats of Valspar to cover it. I was not happy. Then I noticed the paint shows marks at the slightest thing. Even lightly brushing against the wall it leaves a mark - almost like it would with a chalky paint.

I am just heading out now to buy a differnt brand of paint. I really wish I had not purchased this.

"Shocking paint!!"

We have just had wall panelling and shelving built in our dining room. I bought valspar premium eggshell from b&q. Thinking this would be a really good paint to use. What a mess it’s made. It’s been primed well but after 3 coats it’s still showing through, the drips are terrible and the paint is very watery (yes it’s been stirred and mixed) I thought I had done something wrong so I’ve purchased all new brushes and rollers then I looked at the reviews and it all makes sense now. Il never buy this ever again. It’s totally ruined the new wood we’ve just had put in. All will need to be sanded and started again. Can’t tell you how upsetting this is. I will not recommend to anyone!

"I would give it zero stars if I could"

I would give it zero stars if I could! Used a very dark midnight blue on walls and a cupboard unit and despite prepping it very meticulously, it's all chipping off on the cupboard and beside the sink in the loo. The water streaks look terrible and you can't scrub them off or the paint comes too. The premium white that I've used on the ceiling and walls in the kitchen has terrible coverage too. The paint pulls off if you brush or roller over a bit you did a minute ago. So disappointed and angry at all the work I'll now have to do to put it right. We are decorating to sell and this is really setting us back!

"Absolutely awful quality paint"

Absolutely awful quality paint. Bought the premium for kitchen, and then hallway. Paid for pro to apply as just had kitchen done.
Shocking. Hallway was 7 costs!!! Had to go to a Matt in between as looked so bad in silk.
It is still sticky 6 weeks later. Marks if you as much as look at it.
If you wipe it down…….good luck it simply comes straight off onto damp cloth.
I emailed the manufacturer with pictures and all receipts. They blamed the UV light!!!! What in February on internal hallway!!!
Then said preparation. It was applied to skimmed walls on top of plasterboard! I’ve had a dark blue and a purple and it was covering Matt magnolia for gods sake.

I asked for refund and offered for a rep to come up, but they refused. They offered me 2.5l free!!! I have an unused 2.5 l that is fit for drain already. Shocking paint, shocking company. You have been warned
