"Serious failure of Care and Incompetent Handling of Long Distance Recovery By RAC"
My LR Sport broke down on A9 at Perth on the way home to Hexham in Northumberland. My travel companion is over 70, diabetic and had injured his ankle. We broke down at 13:47 PM. We informed the RAC via SAGA insurance.
We eventually arrived back home at 5pm the following day having been piggy-backed home via local recovery companies. At one point we were left for 5 hours in an unlit lorry park on the outskirts of Glasgow with no access to any services and with no source of heat on a freezing cold night. At midnight with my friend desperately cold, I insisted that we were moved to a local hotel along with our car. During the stay in the lorry park, various cars cruised around acting suspiciously and one pulled up behind us. I called the police who attended the scene, were very helpful and reassuring.
The RAC were reactive rather than proactive, the communication was abysmal and I lost count how many phone calls I had to make because they failed to get back to me as promised. I was also told that things had been arranged when they had not.
They failed badly in the duty of care to their customers. They were prepared to leave us all night in the lorry park, Even though they were aware of how vulnerable my friend was. It was a very scary situation.
Transfer points should always be on a 24 hour service station. Not one that shuts down at 10 pm. They should assign a specific manager to complex long distance recovery operations. Forward planning and good communication is essential.
Customers should know what they are purchasing when signing up to recovery services.
This account does not cover half the failings of the RAC. Other accounts in the reviews are equally disturbing and someone is going to be injured or fall Ill if the RAC does not improve its services

"Not all it seems to be!!"
Turned up at the fitter and was initially told the order was to take away the tyres as no fitting was included!! After numerous phone calls the fitter agreed to do the job but I was made to sign a document saying I had just taken the tyres away. Full marks to the fitting company for performing a “work around” but as they told me that they are constantly having issues like this, this will be the first and last time I use an online service, I’ll negotiate directly with the fitting company in person next time!!!

"Fantastic service"
I had a difficult problem. My wife's car broke down, the RAC recovered the car and took it to a local garage (Sterling Service Centre). After a week they said they couldn't even look at it for a further 2 weeks. We need the car for work so it was going to be very difficult. I phoned the RAC and Eva was very helpful and arranged to move the car to better garage. Matt (the repair man) picked up the car and took it to the new garage, keeping me up to date throughout. Fantastic service.

Never used RAC tyres before but price was best at the time I saved around 40 pounds compared to best other quotes. Really easy to order, pay and book in. Tyres replaced and very happy with this have recommended to my partner already. Just looking forward to my Amazon vouchers now. Thank you.

Came on time and items as ordered. Friendly, efficient, fitter. Gave some extra advice as asked for but he didn't have to. No mess. No issues. Would definitely use next time. Recommended.

I went to have my tyres fitted and the centre had not received my booking from the RAC and was told the tyres I had ordered were no longer available

Booked a slot for a mobile fitter, confirmed by text. Then no advice of timing, no information, and ... no arrival. I should have checked the reviews first. Awful service for 2022.
