"Can't complain too much"

Can't complain too much, 8 new windows and a front door cost what we thought it would! A couple of minor issues like scratched pane and handle, picked up by installer and replacements ordered right away. The guys were generally tidy, although we have picked up the odd screw here and there days later! Have used Penicuik before in a previous house, so must be ok if returning to them.

Very pleased with the windows and very pleased with the installation and the guys who did it. Would I use Penicuik again - Yes - but I would continue to do research so that I know what is a realistic price for the products & work to be done and look at agreeing with their sales people to cease the preamble and get to that realistic pricing conversation - as that was a long and arduous exercise in itself with numerous phone calls and 2 sales visits to get to that realistic and agreed upon price.

My mother had a salesperson over and experienced the same tactics noted here by many. An initial price of over £6k for a front door and side panel (my friend just had the same from another company beautifully fitted for £1500, the new composite grey type which are all the rage at the minute) which was then reduced to £4,600 with some scrappage discount? Then when told she'd be getting other quotes, the phone call to the manager, which then drops the price to £2,600. But we're not finished yet. I got them to call me and was told this was all a mis understanding between all of their teams (oh, so if my mum had paid the £6k, £4.6k, or £2.6k she'd have received a refund would she???So then was offered trade prices to make up for this. Needless to say i never even hung about to find out what this price would be. I've seen these despicable tactics all over Watchdog and Rogue Traders on tv but thought this was the work of small fly by night outfits, clearly not. My advice is avoid at all costs, these people clearly cannot be trusted.

I had roof lining done and gutters replaced. All in all a good job, but I told the company about a blocked drain, they were meant to clear this before installing new drain pipe, they didn’t, It overflows in rain, I have asked for a remedial repair to be carried out, to no avail. Nobody wants to you once the moneys been paid, very poor after service and inspection of finished work. No paperwork was given either. I wouldn’t use them again. I will stick to CR Smith, always professionals!

Could not fault the installation team, they were brilliant (Thomas + AS). Salesmen need work, had one in for 3 hours and signed to get rid of him let's be honest, cancelled contract but they came back with a more realistic price. The finance is an absolute rip off, their APR is shocking.

"Bad sales tactics."

We had a salesman come out to do our initial quote and he was very professional and friendly, he was here for an hour and a half which I felt was excessive. He gave us an initial quote of 21000 then went on the phone to his manager and suddenly if we signed up today it was down to 11000. Complete sales tactics but we felt pressured by him also. We decided not to proceed.
A few days later we received a phone call from someone offering to come back as they feel out quote was too high and offered trade prices ( which we were told we had already been offered ). Friday they 17th another man came out and I found him to be extremely patronising and condescending.
Asked if we had had other quotes which we had and one of these quotes happened to be a family member. When he found this out he pretty much said there is no point in him looking, as he wouldn't be able to offer less than our initial 11000 quote and wouldn't be able to beat the uncles price. Therefore assuming we would be going with the uncle and not giving us the option.
Statements were made like " you arent at our level". I found this assumption patronising and condescending. The phone call previously stating they thought they had overcharged us was obviously rubbish as this man made no indication he would be willing to offer less.
Not impressed by their tactics or sales techniques.

I was delighted by the service all the way Dougie Broadley did a great mess free job fitting the windows. They were polite and did a clean tidy professional job
