"NIGHTMARE AVOID"
OOn the 7th of May I clicked on an advert about discounted windows, got a phone with in a minute of pressing the submit button, I was told that the windows are discounted to make our home more energy efficient. An appointment was made for 4pm for an advisor to visit us, we only need 5 windows 2 fairly small, 2 medium and one large window.
The advisor Doug went on for ages running down almost every double glazing company, he insisted that Penicuik is the best, his quote for the windows was £20k, he eventually brought the price down to £5k, then he said that he’d sort the finance out (which we did not want him to arrange) but without his finance we could not get the windows at this vastly reduced price.
After 3 and 1/2 hours I paid £349.00 on my credit card for a surveyor, I paid this just to get rid of him.
The very next morning I phoned shawbrook and cancelled the loan agreement, got onto clearwin & Penicuik to cancel the order.
While the advisor was at our home he phoned his boss from our landline, as his bosses number was still on my phone I phoned him to say that I’d cancelled the order, he then said that he’d have to come to our house for us both to sign the cancellation papers as it was a branch requirement, told him not to bother. I asked him about our £349 he said that he’d get back to me, still waiting for that phone call.
Phoned Penicuik about the £349 and was told that it could take up to 30 days but normally it’s only a few days, we’re still waiting.

I responded to your email on Wednesday the 15th, and yes you did phone me on Friday the 17th but not to discuss our refund of £349.00 but the person wanted to come back to our house renegotiate the sale and continue with the cancelled order. NO THANKS
And again was told that there was nothing that he could do about the money and that I’d have to wait

the process of purchase was fine and the installation went smoothly. Unfortunately I have had a couple of phone calls asking for immediate positive feedback and I cannot do that. The installed door squeaks badly and the door does not close smoothly. Penicuik on the second phone call acknowledged that this had been noted and that I would be contacted. So far..................

Couldn't fault the fitters they were great, salesman gave is duff information about the facings and types of windows we wanted. Was really unhappy at the telephone call offering me discount and cash if I wanted to replace my door. Salesman passed me onto a "manager" who I felt was pressuring me to have someone come over and measure up even tho I said no eventually he hunf up on me no goodbye or nothing

I've had problems with Penicuik in the past and when the agent (John Cameron) was discussing the door I wanted I told him I would not go ahead if Inverness were doing the fitting. He spoke to the Aberdeen installations manager on loudspeaker and explained my issue with Inverness and I was assured they would not have anything to do with the door, it would all be done by Aberdeen. I was obviously only told that to get the sale as it was Inverness who did it, once again I had problems, when the fitter came with the door there were no keys for it so he had to come back the following week.
I have no problem with the quality of the work but I will never deal with Penicuik again

Penicuik were very efficient, can’t fault them at all. The man who put my door on made a brilliant job. Would definitely use them again.

"The ethics of cold calling a vulnerable, elderly person"
My elderly vulnerable mother received a doorstep cold call from this so-called 'reputable' company. Despite telling the salesman that I (her eldest daughter) had Power of Attorney he did not back off - she subsequently signed a contract for 2 living-room windows at an astronomical price of £3383 and gave him a cheque for £683!! By the time I discovered what had happened and saw the contract it was outwith the cancellation period but undaunted I phoned Customer Care who asked me to email a copy of my Power of Attorney certificate - no reply to my email. I followed this up with a message using the contact form on their website - again no response. Several days later I spoke to Trading Standards then sent a recorded delivery letter (enclosing a copy of the POA and my email) to cancel the contract and request a refund on the grounds that my mother lacked the capacity to really understand what she had signed. In actual fact my mother's reaction to my pointing out she had signed a contract was "Did I?" To date I have received no written response from Penicuik which says it all regarding their ethics. Interestingly, my mother's vulnerability and lack of capacity appears to be obvious to everyone (including assorted medical professionals, neighbours, tradesmen etc) except the salesman and sales manager from Penicuik. Or maybe they just don't care? After all it's much easier to score huge commission by preying on the weak and vulnerable. Disgust doesn't come close to describing my feelings for this company. Suffice to say I will be doing my utmost to publicise what has happened to my mother so that other vulnerable elderly people are not exploited in the same way.

"Rocky start but pleased in the end"
Had reviewed as a 1 as had a problem to start with. However, today this issue has been resolved, and the customer services rep who phoned was very helpful and understanding. I have now awarded three stars...worth noting if the whole company worked the way of the call today, it would be a five star review.
Very pleased that the issue was resolved so professionally.

The salesman gave a good account of the Penicuik double glazed windows with Argon improved insulation. The installers arrived on time and did an excellent job of replacing my old double glazed windows. The new windows seem to have made my house appreciably warmer for the remainder of the winter.
