Most technical calls go overseas.
Equipment ordering and set up, after initial set up, was a nightmare that we finally gave up on and cancelled our business dealings with Shift 4. We gave them over a year to get a piece of equipment, but they were not capable of doing it.

Just chatted online for the first time ever with this company, spoke to Matt Sweinz. He refused to to work with an American company with a 7 branches globally and dropped the conversation. There are words to describe people like that. It was an insanely negative first and last impression of this company. Glad I don't have people like him working for me.

Liars and scam artists taking advantage of small business with a bad system that they won't take responsibility for. I tried to switch to this system and even spent tons of money trying to make it work. After everything failed I tried to cancel my contract and return my equipment which is where I hit all my issues. Shift4 decided they wanted a $2,400 to cancel or they would charge $300+ a month if I don't use the system. On top of everything else they refused to take back any equipment so we are sitting on all this garbage with nothing we can do about it.

"DO NOT USE SHIFT4!"
I can not stress this enough! DO NOT USE SHIFT4 for credit card processing. Their processing fees bottom line (including swipe fees, monthly reports, etc.) for our last 3 months were 6.56%, 4.50%, & 3.92%. They have many hidden fees on top of the actual quoted swipe fees that they charge you for monthly & yearly.
We were with them for 6 years and our POS system hard drive went out. We could no longer process credit cards . Shift4 offered to provide a terminal if we signed a new contract, otherwise we had to pay an early termination fee for the months remaining on the original contact which auto-renewed twice.
We opted out & paid the fee-LESSON LEARNED! They prey on small mom & pop businesses & suck the life out of them!.

"The worst experience ever and not user…"
The worst experience ever and not user friendly once received the system. I currently have KDS, POS and KIOSK and none of them are user friendly. Kiosk very small harder for customers to use. I called after 30 days to cancel the service and thinking that it was month to month no contract and that's how they get you. If you canceled, you will be charged the remaining months which is 29 months, that's 3700$ insane. Not honest company and they just try to sell you their service.
Now I'm stuck with it. However I have another company willing to pay the early termination fees to switch over.
Due to my experience I wouldn't want that happened to other small business owners. Be careful with shift4. By the way shift4 meaning $ sign.

AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!! Since they have taken over Revel Systems Inc we have been slapped with so many charges. The latest one is a monthly fee per location for not using Shift 4's payment processor. Even though we are signed to the previous merchant that Revel approved! We now are in the hole for a further £8k per annum to this company. They are not moving and I am taking this to the CMA. We have been a loyal customer for over 7 years and this is how they treat us.

"Avoid Shift4 – Unfair Charges and Poor Customer Service"
I applied for a merchant account with Shift4 in October 2024, but it was never approved because I sell name-brand products. Shift4 required me to remove all name-brand items from my Shift4Shop, which I was unwilling to do. As a result, I closed my account in November 2024.
Despite this, in February 2025—three months after closing my account—Shift4 debited my checking account for $25, claiming it was the "monthly minimum fee." This charge makes no sense, as my merchant account was never approved, and I had already cancelled in November.
I have contacted customer service multiple times, yet I have not received any refund. Their handling of this situation has been extremely frustrating, and I would not recommend Shift4 to anyone. If you’re considering using their services, think twice—there are far better and more ethical payment processors out there.

"Shift4 is not a good service"
Our issue with Shift4 is the constantly changing charges. We also have had to chase down money owed to us for their accounting mistakes. Also, customer service would be rated below zero as each call or chat is going to take an hour or more to complete and reach a semi-amicable resolution I finally cut that cord, at great expense to me but should save money in the long run.
