"This company is the worst"

This company is the worst I have ever had the displeasure to work with. Unfortunately, I was involved in an accident and this company left me stranded in a remote part of Maine. I was literally told I was on my own. I had to pay $140 for a taxi ride to get to Bangor to get help. Now I am dealing with insurance and they are charging over $500 for the administration alone. My insurance company tells me that is more than 5 times the average and is usually waived by the rental company, but not Drivo. The car had high mileage on it and the fuel tank was not full when I got it. In general, this company is the worst. I would give them zero stars if I could. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!

"Stay Away from Drivo -Ace rental car JFK location!!!"

If I could give a zero, I would without hesitation. Don't let the low prices fool you! If you ever see this company listed as an option choose any other option but them. They have terrible customer service and provide cars that they know aren't in good condition and pass the responsibility on to customers! The car I rented had bad, worn tires on it. The tire unraveled on the expressway almost causing me to have an accident. When I contacted the facility, they didn't even call me back for 5 days. They charged me a deductible and an extra cost for a tire! When the manager called back his tone was very dismissive and behaved as if I was wasting his time. Run far away from Drivo - especially the location near JFK Airport - SOUTH OZONE PARK, NY!!!!

"Very expensive and unpleasant experience"

We rented four cars over the summer. Fox Rent-A-Car (alias Drivo) was the only company that:
a. required we add insurance, despite the fact that we were fully covered through our credit card because we had international licenses. Add one hundred dollars to their "bargain" price.
b. charged $25 so both my husband and I could drive the car
c. charged an additional $6.95 a day if we used a toll road
d. sent us an unitemized receipt for $175 they took out of our deposit. I assume it was for the tolls and the aforementioned surcharges, but who knows if it is accurate.
All of these charges came to an additional $300 over the advertised cost.
e. We waited 45 minutes to be waited on even though we were the next in line, and there is no public bathroom. I used the staff bathroom without permission.

The car was clean and comfortable. That's what the star is for.
Run, do not walk, from this company.

"We rented a car on priceline from ACE…"

We rented a car on priceline from ACE rent a car in Newark, NJ (which is operated by Drivo). It was a corporate trip, so the rental was made online with the owners credit card, but I was listed as the driver. Once we arrived, they would not honor the rental because the credit card used to pay did not match the name of the driver. We were both present, and showed the credit card as well as both of our IDs, and even offered to change the cc to one in my name. The only way they said we could resolve the issue was to buy their insurance for $350 and somehow that would resolve the name differences. It was a total scam to get people to sign up for their insurance. When we were leaving we saw another couple, husband and wife, dealing with the same issue and again were told the only way they could keep the reservation was to purchase their insurance package.
The managers closing remark to us was "That's unfortunate for YOU, not for ME"!!!

"BEWARE OF WEBSITE PROBLEMS (TAKE SCREENSHOT OF PRICING)"

09/23/21 UPDATE: Nick from Drivo was able to figure out the details and honored the original rental agreement from my 2nd experience. In the end, great customer service.

1ST EXPERIENCE
Placed a reservation through Priceline for a great deal. The shuttle from Federal Circle (JFK) to the DRIVO office takes a while. Approximately 2hr ordeal after everything. You have to call them or else they won't have a clue. Tires were squeaky on corners and the dashboard had a "Malfunction" error screen as well as "Key Battery Low" 25 min after driving off from the lot. However, the car was still driveable throughout my rental agreement. Overall experience, average with a few hiccups. For the price, I gave it a pass.

2ND EXPERIENCE - (THIS IS WHERE I FELT SCAMMED. MAKE SURE YOU SCREENSHOT THE PRICE BEFORE SUBMITTING!)
After receiving a 20% discount code via email, I decided to give them another try. So I went online directly to their website and signed up for a reservation at the Coney Island (Brooklyn) office. After submitting my credit card information on their website for a grand total of $700+/- with taxes included, I received no confirmation email. (I thought that was kind of strange?) The following day I go pick up the vehicle, they had my reservation on file but the grand total was $1,200 instead of the original $700. Almost double the price! Stuck without a car reservation, I had to bite the bullet because I needed the car the next day and did not have time to look for other cars. A very shady business tactic in my opinion.

"I DO NOT RECOMMEND DRIVO/ACE. SCAM!"

Low price, low quality service. It was my second time renting from Ace Car Rentals at JFK and it’s the last time. First of all, i called for a shuttle and didn’t get through to anyone. I waited for almost an hr and no shuttle, so I took Uber. Got to the site and no one acknowledged the customers for half an hr, but employees were in n out of the office building. Finally someone took their blinkers off, and told us to wait to be called (which we were already doing). I peaked in the the front office door and 2 dudes were just chilling. An hr already passed, before I was called inside. I had prepaid for my car(3days), so I expected a smooth process. Dude offered insurance?($130), I told him I already have my own. Dude insisted that I take their insurance, which have never happened before. I vehemently rejected Ace’s insurance because I already have mine and it was very high cost. He persisted to offer a lower priced insurance, I irritatingly told him I don’t want your darn insurance. He smirked and still offered me a much lower insurance ($6/day). By then I was stressed out and angry. I said, “dude you really trying to take my money, just take whatever so I can get outta here.” Then he told me that they had to hold $500 on my debit card. That was ridiculous; I never had more than $200 held from my debit card at the other car rentals. I offered to switch to my credit card, he said it had to be from the card I used to prepay. Almost 2 hrs total I was there… Got outside to get my car and the car had all kinda scratches on the hood….. Ace is horrible. I don’t recommend renting cars with them. Pay the extra few dollars at the other car rental companies

"Good people working there, but an average experience overall...."

I liked the people that were servicing us, they were friendly and service minded even though the stress level with a bunch of people waiting could understandably be high. But they handled it well.

I have to give them a three star rating though because A: the car was not clean at all. The windows were so bad that driving at night could even be considered dangerous. The windshield was just a wall of reflected light from oncoming cars. They really need to pay attention to that. And B: they have no restrooms for customers. They couldn't even bother with a porta potty or something like that outside. They basically just tell you flat no. And if you leave and get out on the streets again, it will take you a good 15-20 minutes to get back to that side of the road. It's horrendous. A couple of us simply had to go, and we were in shock as to how hard it was to get back, and the fact that they actually have customers go through this, just to go to a restroom. That just shows such a lack of care from management. And that's why I give them a 3 star rating.

Summary - YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Lesson learned and won’t be back.

Booked through Priceline. Upon arriving in Newark airport it was not the easiest place to locate. Luckily airport staff and others were able to help us take the tram and call the number to be picked up.

After pre paying online - yes, great price - I was informed that since my PayPal was not verifiable I’d get to spend an extra few hundred on insurance for the car. This was upsetting as one of the perks for my personal insurance is covering rentals. Wasn’t too happy about paying an extra amount, but there apparently was no way around that.

Then the car we had smelt like cigarettes. Which for me, I absolutely hate and turns my stomach. But after a coast to coast flight and going back and forth regarding the additional cost, I was over it.

The next morning my girlfriend realized there was a tampon applicator in the door of the passenger side…and no, it was not hers…or mine.

Luckily there are a few helpful people with great service. One lady who was late 30’s or early 40’s who was kind. And then another man with long hair was very adamant about checking us in and moving the returns along.

Great company, loved there service, i had to extended my car rental twice they gave me discount. they are very kind and well mannered company... i will definitely do more business with them.....
