Valspar Paint

"It’s just awful in every way terrible…"
It’s just awful in every way terrible coverage if you try and brush the paint in what’s once it’s been on for 10 seconds it just peels off like a layer of latex. I hate everything about this paint. I’ll never be using it again and I recommend anybody else in the future to avoid using it.

"Coverage is terrible"
Coverage is terrible, very thin.
I thought paying double the amount it would be decent.

"It's not possible to get paint chips…"
It's not possible to get paint chips for every colour, only those with a cross on them - very frustrating. Also I had to make three attempts before the payment finally went through!

"Functional, but not good. Feeble cover."
On the up side, it's the colour we want, doesn't smell and has gone on ok.
On the down side it has taken 8 coats of a strong red to get to an acceptable uniformity of colour. By contrast, the Dulux matte off-white (white mist) paint took two coats to get to a uniform finish.
This is with a premium matte via B&Q colour mixing. Overall the paint has not impressed and we will be looking for a different colour matching service.
Hopefully the durability is as advised, but that can't be identified yet.

"DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY!"
The first time we have used Valspar emulsion & the last! The finish is terrible - after 5 coats still patchy & streaky so sanded down & another 2 coats - still the same! We had 3 different colour mixes and all the same. Would never use again - £200 in paint & a lot of work & very disappointed with the finish.

"Not all colour chips available"
Did not seem to be able to order a colour chip for all the colours I wanted (there was no '+' symbol displayed to click on on all of the colours). Website slow and cumbersome.

"This paint is a waste of money!"
I have recently painted my hall and stairs 3 floors, it has taken weeks. I had a Valspar Premium paint mixed at B&Q to match a colour in the hall floor tiles and it's rubbish! I did exactly as recommended by the the chap and on tin in B&Q. I cleaned the paintwork, used undercoat and painted 2 coats of topcoat and basically it chips all the time. I am constantly touching up, it has only been finished 2 months and already I have touched up areas of the handrails. Thank goodness I have plenty of the top coat left. Will never use again.

"Very watery"
Colour is what we wanted and after a few coats, our kitchen cupboard doors look almost as we wanted but the paint is so watery the first coat just came off. Wanting to paint round the kitchen doors but after how watery the paint was it’s likely it’ll just run off.

"Not recommended. Hard to apply and poor finish."
Absolutely shocking paint, the worst I've used! Spent many weeks creating a media wall. The wall was meticulously prepped for the top coat. Took a trip to B&Q but the range of colours in the larger tins of wood and metal paint was limited – we didn’t want white. Never used the paint mixing service before due to the price but felt that this was our only option. The guy at the mixing counter asked a few questions – did we have dogs, what material did we intend painting etc, and recommended the Valspar Premium Wood & Metal in eggshell. I couldn’t wait to get started. Read the instructions on the paint tin and mixed thoroughly as suggested. This took ages, it was as if the paint hadn’t been mixed properly to begin with. There were thick lumps stuck to the bottom of the can – something I haven’t experienced with other paints. In hindsight, we now wonder if it hadn’t mixed properly as the mixing guy said it’d be a few minutes as he went to talk to another customer. It literally to about 40 seconds. From B&Q’s website: “Why Valspar? Our paint promises ensure Valspar gives you a top-quality finish with minimum time and effort, so you can colour with confidence every time” THIS IS FAR FROM TRUE. Applying the paint took a lot of effort, unlike the primer which went on like a dream. Tried 2 different roller sleeves and a paint brush – checked online to see which roller sleeve Valspar recommended. Tried again and again. The brush gave the best effect, but still left brush lines. Tried the roller over the brush lines but this took some of the paint off. Finally had to admit defeat. I’m now left with a horrible looking section of media wall which is going to take a lot of sanding, and other prep to get it back to what it was before applying the Valspar paint. The primer has a much better effect than the Valspar. We had to take another trip to B&Q to select a different paint. What an absolute waste of time and money – an extra trip to B&Q, another paint purchase, extra roller sleeves, more sanding to get rid of the horrendous Valspar finish and then whatever prep work is needed to start again with the new paint. When I came to write this review, I saw that the rating is 2.4 out of 5 stars from 179 reviewers – with 104 of the reviewers giving only 1 star. If only I’d checked the reviews before purchasing.

"Good colour match, terrible quality"
Had been planning a little redecoration of my hallway so went to my local B&Q for paint and supplies. The branch local to me didn't sell the paint brand and colour I was looking for as it was only available in the larger stores but the sales assistant explained that the colour match was in their system and they could mix it for me, but would be a different brand of paint, which I was happy with. I chose the pricier option of the Valspar brand and after using a paint calculator, 2.5l would be plenty for 2 coats. So far so good.
However, upon application, the paint was so patchy and since I had chosen a dark colour, this was very unforgiving on my walls. I had prepped the walls correctly and the sales assistant said this paint had a primer built in so didn't need any undercoat. I managed to (just about) squeeze 3 coats out of the 2.5l tin and it still looks patchy and uneven. It probably needs another coat, maybe even two coats, to look properly finished but I'm just not prepared to spend the same again on another 2.5l. Complete waste of money, thinking I would go with the pricier brand. Wish I had ordered in my original choice instead. Colour match was really decent but quality of paint an absolute shambles
